Planned 12 x 25" on Sunday night on the Iain Plan. Good warm up then lift-off.

After 4 hard strokes I pulled up sharp with a horrendous pain in lower abdomen. Assumed it was just a slight muscle strain and consoled myself with a modest 5k but by Monday morning it was worse - every movement or cough was agony. It now seems that I may have given myself a hernia - seeing the Doctor on Saturday.

Just before the biggest race of my life. Perfect timing! I've read about other people's injury misfortunes and notably poor Mikkel's back but it never crossed my mind that it might happen to me - I've never been ill or injured (broken wrist 25 years ago but that's it).

Feel very cheesed off :( :( :(

There's no good timing for an injury but this is certainly very bad. It could be a hernia from what you describe but I've no medical experience to advise so let's hope the doc can diagnose it with better news like it is just a muscle pull/strain. I had a para-umbilical hernia fixed at the same time I had my gall bladder out and that was a 4 week lay-off from the erg and 2 weeks of tippy-toeing after that.

Hope it's good news Laurence

Sounds bad, and awful timing Laurence. I hope the diagnosis is better. How come you have to wait until Saturday though?

Thanks for the sympathy Plummy and Stan (wallow, wallow).

Diagnosis was made reluctantly by doctor friend over the phone from a description of symptoms, but he told me to go to my own Doctor urgently. He suspects a 'sports hernia' which is apparently common among people who do a sport which involves leaning forwards, like hockey players (and us).

Saturday is classed as urgent by my surgery and was the soonest I could get in when I called them on Monday (I shall not voice my opinion on this as it is unprintable)

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I do feel a lot better as stabbing pain has gone, but am very aware of it when I sit up in bed or get out of the car for instance. Am half tempted to try something gentle tonight but it might not be a good idea.

Colin, sounds like you're lucky to be alive! Get some rest - you'll be fine for Sunday.

Dave, so wrapped up in my own self-pity that I didn't see your post about sad and unfortunate events. Sorry to hear all of that.

Christine. Crash B's a bit soon for someone of my level. Maybe when I've done a few more Grimsbys!

Jon. I thought about it but the 'E' part of A&E stopped me. I can't waste emergency services time as this isn't an emergency, just an overweight middle aged bloke who has over-exerted himself.

Now if I'd had twenty pints of Stella and twelve Barcardi and Cokes and been punched in the face by a bouncer then that would be different ......

Ola long time no post well here's why.

Had a bad day, try week.

Dislocated shoulder.

House burgled (computer stolen etc etc etc)

Car nicked. Florence and the Machine 4 CD box set in glove box after Mrs T lent it to one one of her friends.

I thank you.

Neil, I realize this worrisome. It seems that, again, Mr. Mossberg Image needs to come for help for at least two of the bad things happened to you! Hope your shoulder is good soon.

I am not having a bad day, except may be to h/d on a slow 10k (think I did not eat enough). But the apple trees and all the birds here in Central Wisconsin are not having a good day: up to 6 cm snow till tomorrow am!

I was not sure were to put this....it is not so much a bad day as bad years. You may have read before that i mentioned that i went to Counselling with my wife as a one off.I have since become aware that my past has had a very negative affect on me in the present,so i have started to see the Counseller by myself. [-o<
My first session was yesterday afternoon and i will be going every week for the next 5 weeks.
You may notice some changes in my training and the way i respond to peoples posts, hopefully for the better.

The reason i am mentioning this is that i believe that the reason that i left Free Spirits and then came was part of my past problems, and that coming back was one of the turning points in my life.
Thank you all for welcoming me back ^O^ =D>

Since being back in England returning from South Africa i have been a member of 4 different Rugby clubs and never gone back to any of them. :?

Jason - I read this not long after you first posted, and needed time to phrase a reply. It takes courage to acknowledge that there may be a problem, and humility to return to somewhere you've walked away from. I know you are a competitive man (from reading your posts) who aims high. As you travel along this new route, be kind to yourself. Do not expect miracles, instant results or perfection, you are also human. We all carry the odd bit of baggage, and just recognising what it is can be half the battle. Good luck, and enjoy your new awareness. Don't you just love lightbulb moments?

Thanks for the reply Jane. :D I have learned quiet a bit about myself already just from the 2 sessions so far.there seems to be more than just a bit of baggage there, :( but i am in the prossess of changing things.
You are absoulutely correct about the lightbulb moments. :)

Jason, being one of those people who has been through an episode such as you describe, I can promise you that you have shown more courage than your average man, more humility than you ever thought you had and I'll promise you that in a few months you'll look back with some astonishment on the person you used to be.

You'll always be welcome in our little club.

More power to your elbow and your mind in driving out those demons.

Wer;ve all got them but you have to be a real person to admit to it and deal with them.
