No more Twinkies!

Post by commodoreann »

Not that I was a fan of Twinkies, but the Hostess company is going out of business.
I do however remember eating Devil Dogs and cream filled cup cakes as a child and perhaps a Twinkie or two.
This cream filled tubular yellow cake is a true landmark of American culture.

Who can ever forget this scene from Ghostbusters!

Another American icon bites the dust. Presently, there is a run in the markets to buy the remaining Twinkies. #-o

Can't say I was great fan either. They weren't the most offensive sweet treat you could get in the USA when I lived there (that goes hands down to Hersey's "chocolate" :~c ).

That said, if they've become an icon of American culture (they get a mention in the first Die Hard movie I remember) then it's a sad loss if it's come to an end.

I suppose the equivalent over here would be the loss of Mr Porky pork scratchings :D

Zombieland! Which is all about the search for a Twinkie. And not really about Zombies at all.

Yes, that always puzzled me. It's as if they deliberately set out to make the most awful tasting chocolate wannabe possible and exceeded their expectations. :~c

Have to agree that even as a regular, card carrying chocaholic, Hershey's is just inedible.

We brought some back from holiday this year and after living in the fridge for a few months, even the dogs turned their noses up at it.

Can't say I've ever seen a Twinkie.

My wife does like the peanut butter filled chocolate things - can't remember the name - but they're very sickly.

Reeses peanut butter cups, which now you can get in any supermarket, along with nutrageous, reeses pieces - they are a dangerous place supermarkets now. You can even get Reeses Cereal in an American sweet shop in Norwich - if you are willing to pay £7.50 for a regular sized box. Fortunately, the price puts me off!!!

Fortunately the taste puts me off!

Awful stuff - American "chocolate" and mashed peanut? Really? I mean really?

On sweets though we always used to bring back Carambar nougat/chewy things from France. Never seen them for sale in the UK.
