Heard in Church

Post by billwright »

In church I heard a lady in the pew next to me saying a prayer.
It was so sweet and sincere that I just had to share with you.

Dear Lord,

This has been a tough two or three years.

You have taken my favourite actor Patrick Swayze.

My favourite musician Michael Jackson.

My favourite Blues Singer Amy Winehouse.

My favourite actress Elizabeth Taylor.

And now my favourite singer Whitney Houston.

I just wanted you to know that my favourite politicians are
Ed Miliband, David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Balls.

Indeed it is Stan.

I have a massively low opinion of politicians of all shades and colours.

They are (in my opinion) always doing the job for their own glory or finanical reward (or both) and see the job as a stepping stone to influence, power and wealth.

They all have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo and until we have a revolution in the political landscape in the UK, we will never change it. Our democracy is, as Muse say it, a "demon - ocrasy".

In my world, we have two Government chambers. One is full of people elected every 3 years. They have the power to make changes to policy that can last no more than 2 terms. They are paid by their political parties and have no expenses or other support from the taxpayer. They are limited to no more than 4 terms - EVER.

The other chamber is made up of people who have done at least 2 sessions in the lower chamber, plus Civil Servants, plus business leaders. This serves for 10 years and is in charge of any policy that will have an effect beyond 6 years. It is elected and again the political members are paid by their parties.

There is a separate body that dishes out expenses but their budget is limited. No member can claim more than 50% of their salary. (Presently most MP's claim more than 150%).

All members of the long term chamber can be removed if say the people request a vote via the internet based system already in place. Let's say more than a million people asking for a vote on their confidence in any one person, means that we have a referendum. More than 50% of those who vote say "go" and he/she is gone.

I think that this will encourage those who genuinely beleive in public service to join whilst the greedy glory hunters will be eliminated.

This is a system that would be corrupt within 25 years and have to be replaced.

and don't even get me started on the royals and the waste of space they are!
