Hi all,
just came across this blog by a young Australian who lived in Münster (my home town) and wrote down how she experienced the Germans. Some (most) of the points are true...

What do you think?
What I know about Germans

Re: What I know about Germans
Hi Peter-only just noticed this, it got me laughing, football, beer, asparagus (you call it spargel), it could easily have been talking about the English
By the way we have the best Spargel in the world, grown in the Vale of Evesham
You might like to check items 33 and 43 which seem to contradict each other:-
33) They are refreshingly comfortable with nudity.
43) Germans struggle enormously with the concept of ‘naked feet’ – as an Australian, my feet are always naked and therefore oft-commented upon.
Thanks for sharing, it made me laugh out loud-someone needs to do one by an exPat on the English-perhaps Scoop can do one of his literary treatments

Re: What I know about Germans
Hi Alan,
I'm afraid point #43 matches point #57:
57) It saddens me to report there seems to be a higher instance of socks and sandals paired together in Germany, than in other countries.
I hate to admit that she's probably right about that And of course I'm absolutely NOT typical german in that point
I understand it that way that point #33 refers to people lying naked on (specially designated) beaches, which is particularly popular in eastern Germany.strider77 wrote:You might like to check items 33 and 43 which seem to contradict each other:-

Re: What I know about Germans
Sandals and socks jeee No style at all, and these are the people who builds Mercedes and BMW's They often chooses Denmark for the holiday as a contrast to their very busy workday, and replaces it with, cosiness, relaxation and adventures and likes to discuss culture and politics. So they rent a holiday home near the west coast of Jutland. But I can tell you that they have totally change their "way" from the 80'ies where they were pretty egocentric and bold. But there has always been misunderstandings between the german tourist and the danish tourist employee. Germans often perceive (misunderstood) Danes as rude and taciturn as they themselves use a variety of verbal politeness phrases, depending on the situation, while the Danes use more nonvarbaly language like a smile or a nod. I myself has no problem with german, but there are always some bullies who ruins the general picture for the rest. Sadly many german middle-aged men drown, because of the dangerous undercurrents along the coast to the North Sea which is very strong.
Good things from Germany: Cars, beers, roads, efficiency, sausages, technique and knowhow.
Bad things from Germany: neo-nazists, football hooligans, the sound of the language, Aldi & Lidl which are outcompeting the danish supermarkets
