iPod shuffle

Post by webberg »

Put your iPod onto shuffle.

Tell us the fouth (4th) track that appears.

Every 10 tracks we'll build a new playlist.

Mine came up with

Linkin Park, CRAWLING from Hybrid Theory

Great music for a 500m blast? - Not really - thrash beginning and chorus but quiet and peaceful verses. Good for fartlek pacing.

Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb"

Don't think I'll try rowing to that unless I want to keep the rate really, really low!

Funny you should mention that, as unsurprisingly, I do that rather a lot. It's great for 18spm 8)

I finished my solo 24 and tandem with Iain to Comfortably Numb (from Pulse). Fantabulous 9 minutes of building to the best ever guitar solo - great for getting the spirit lifted through a final push to the line. (although I agree about the slow start!)

Comfortably numb is 64 bpm.

An 18 spm is therefore 8 beats off?

Is 4 beats one stroke?

I never claimed to have any rhythmn!
I've got a 2 hour row this morning at 100k pace, so I'll stick some Floyd on, starting with The Wall and see what happens to the stroke rate during Comfortably Numb.
As a matter of interest, I suppose that The Scissor Sisters' cover is good for 32spm sessions!

I've got some trance and electronica that is 200+ bpm.

At 4 beats per stroke that would be ideal for 100m sprinting?

What SPM is 100k pace?

I also wonder if is was say 24 SPM, @ 4 beats per stroke, that's 96 bpm, would a two hour track list at 96 bpm get boring?

OK, so Comfortably Numb isn't 18spm. Played it a few times and reckon that it's a fraction under 16spm. Of course, it's more likely that Nick Mason's sense of rhythmn is better than mine and so it's probably spot on 16spm!

FWIW, my 100k rating looks like it's unlikely to exceed 16spm!!!!

'Ride of the Valkyries'

Just for info the track before was 'Right Round' - Flo-rida and after was 'Heavyweight Champion of the World' - Reverend and the Makers. It's a real mixture in there!!!!!
