Rugby World Cup

Post by Paul Victory »

Not wishing to take anything away from England's performance today (well done - you were by far the better team =D> ) but I'm getting a horrible sense of deja vu about Ireland's build up for this world cup.

So who do you guys think is gonna win this time? I'm totally out of the loop on this. They just don't show much high level rugby over here. Are the allblacks finally going to get it done now that they're at home?

If they don't, expect mass suicides. I hope they do. They've been the bets side in teh world for most of the last 100 years and only 1 RWC is very poor reward for their endeavours. But they always seem to find a banana skin.

Wonderful opening ceremony in Auckland last night, with a great effort from Tonga against the the All Blacks. Team Canada have made lots of friend here in Northland New Zealand. The team have visited several local schools for training sessions and played touch rugby with the kids. They have been well received and they have given out free T shirts. This is a relatively poor area with high unemployment especially amongst Maori people. Well done Canada. =D>

SPRINGBOKS
Imagine the scene...

Sunday morning in a North Wales Rugby Club with a full fry up sat in front of a big screen fully expecting the plucky Welsh to get thrashed by the Boks, especially after the first 3 minutes :!: Then spend most of the match watching Wales enjoy the best of the game, and finally go ahead, soon after which point you have to head out to the pitch to support your lad's team in their first game of the season.

Ten minutes later, those who got to stayed in until the end of the match wander out to the pitch to pass on the news that the Wales fly-half had clearly spent too much time watching Jonny Wilkinson yesterday, and that those nasty South African went and won by a point :(

At least Michael's team won their game... 54-0 :D :D

Now, I'm off to watch the replay of Hook's disallowed penalty [-X

So no sour grapes there Huw   .

A few points though :

Bokke 17 - Wales 16.
Scored more points, therefore won the game.
no points get awarded for artistic impression, although the Boks also outscored Wales by 2 tries to 1.
A close call on a penalty in the 15th minute in the first half made by a referee who is hardly Southern Hemisphere rugby's best friend, went against Wales - would have been relevant to the result if it was a game-winning kick in the last 2 minutes.
As well as Wales did play, they were very fortunate that just about the only person in world rugby who thinks that John Smit is a better hooker than Bismarck, also happens to be the Bok coach.
How that moron starts a match without Bismarck is beyond me!!!

Anyway, on to the next matches - much as I'd like to see Wales go through, I fear for them against Samoa, who can be really formidable on their day.

As for the other Home Nations teams , none looked very good but we'll see how they fare against tougher opposition with their first choice XV(England excepted).

I definately feel that all the so called Big teams did not really have a great start, but just did what they needed to finish top of there groups to avoid a big team in the next round.

I agree that Samoa will definately worry Wales. And i was very impressed with Japan. 8)

The game didn't start till 11p.m. local time, Canada was up 10-0 when I turned the tv off only to discover the next morning that they had to make an amazing comeback in the second half to win it.

Great performance by the Irish- mixed feelings for me - it was lovely to see the arrogant Aussies get smashed but not too happy about a potential QF against them(on second thoughts, I'd rather play the Aussies than an Irish team playing like that   ).
We still have to beat Samoa though, who I think are going to beat Wales tomorrow.
We were really good against Fiji, especially after last week's dismal showing.

Very interesting tournament ahead, that's for sure.

England v Scotland, cant decide if it was a good game or not, pleased with the result but cant help think Scotland deserved something from the game, thought we looked better when Flood came on.

Looks like France in the next round

Wow. I got my first look at the All Blacks giving my country one unholy beatdown.  We are truly awful but the Blacks are a lot of fun to watch.

PS. No thanks to France for playing horribly against Tonga taking away Canada's 3rd place and automatic qualification for 2015. :x

Ouch! That was a tough first half. Ireland need to take their chances in the second half. They need to find some way of getting through that Welsh defence.

Come on Ireland!

Hard luck Paul :| :| - They came out strong at the beginning of the 2nd half but seemed to run out of puff - they were just that half-yard behind the game all the way through.
Still, Wales will have their opportunity for revenge against us (SA) in the final :) :) - they'll beat France in the semis.
