Season's greetings, my fellow limericians
We're maintaining poetic traditions
It's quite true of course
That we're all “on the sauce”
And exhibit grave mental conditions

It all really rather a curse
Producing nonsensical verse
I'm into the habit
And that rhymes with rabbit
I told you - it's all quite perverse

Re: An Extra Limerick
At the dawn of two thousand and twelve
Into thoughts of the future we delve
But let's take a broom
To financial gloom
Such grim contemplation let's shelve
For optimism is always the key
To brain or brawn activity
So back and forth we will glide
On that smooth metal slide
In the quest for a cherished PB
Into thoughts of the future we delve
But let's take a broom
To financial gloom
Such grim contemplation let's shelve
For optimism is always the key
To brain or brawn activity
So back and forth we will glide
On that smooth metal slide

Your sentiments strike quite a chord
The naysayers must be ignored
Let's forget doom and gloom
And produce a new broom
So that good spirits can be restored

(With apologies to Terry Malloy played by Marlon Brando in the 1954 film: On the Waterfront )
I could 'a been a contender
But last night I went out on a bender
Now adrift in my punt
On the grim waterfront
I'm considering a different agenda

Thanks so much, Jane and Alan, for your kind comments.
They have been a real morale booster while I'm out of action through injury.

Re: An Extra Limerick
Since Boston I've been quite lack lustre
Not my usual performance and bluster
The reason for that
Is not only my back
My cancer has me all of a fluster
I was summoned to see my old Quack
And she said "Bill - it ain't your bad back!
A word from the wise
Your PSA's on the rise
And we'll need to try a new tack
So blood tests have come and have gone
The decisions been made - good job done.
Some hormones at first
Radiation in bursts
Then we'll wait and see the outcome
Indoor rowing will take a back seat
Whilst this next race I'll try hard to beat.
I'll be back once again
In the late autumn rain
When the treatment is over/complete.
The Welsh Champs may be the right place
To get myself back in the race
I've done it before
So I should do one more
To show that I'm back on the case.
As I ease these old bones on the rower
My speed may be a tad lower
But with Free Spirits for mates
I'll just up the rates
And try not to row any slower.

What can I say Bill - other than best of luck with round 2. You must have very nearly knocked it out last time - make sure it stays out for the count this time.

I don't like the sound of your news
But I'm sure that you won't blow a fuse
Of stern stuff you are built
We'll back you to the hilt
And banish all thoughts of the blues
We will all be rooting for you, Bill, in the months to come

Sorry to hear the new Bill, good luck with all the treatment over the coming weeks. I, like many others I'm sure, look forward to seeing you in Cardiff in December.
