Music Festivals - who's going?
Summer is nearly with us in the UK (you can tell because the wind and rain are slightly warmer) and the music festival season is starting up.
Seems to me when I was younger that there was perhaps Isle of Wight and perhaps Donnington but not much else. Now there seems to be one every weekend from June to the end of August.
Anyway - is anybody going to them and what do we think of them?
For me, I'm going to Reading but just for a day and then perhaps Camp Bestival.
The latter is camping in Dorset near Lulworth so the kids can do the castle and the fossils in the coastal rocks around there. There is usually a fancy dress theme as well.
The headline act is Friendly Fires who I've not heard too much of so far and have some research to do.
Does the US and the rest of the world have summer festivals?
Who have you seen there?

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
Mr Webber. As 40 approaches I have dusted off my Inspiral Carpets T shirt and my one and only Duffer of St George 1990 world cup top to ensure one last hurrah! I'm off to the Isle of Wight festival in early June, fairly mixed bag of old and new.
Then in August up the road to Chelmsford for V. Now I don't care but this lot will keep me more than happy
STEREOPHONICS

SEASICK STEVE

KASABIAN
FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE
DOVES
WHITE LIES

One day I'm taking Chloe is it wrong to make a 12 year old drive me home

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
That's a hell of a line up Neil
After buying tickets for Stevie Wonder last year, and then forgetting the date and missing it , we have tickets for Hyde Park in June.
Can't remember who else is on just now, but Jamiroquai rings a bell. Sure there are others.
The wife is at the NIA this very moment listening to/watching Alecia Keys. I didn't fancy it after listening to the latest album.

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
Interesting line up for Mr Turner. Some great bands there.
I saw Kasabian live last year ay Wembley and they put on a good show. Seasick Steve is just fantastic live.
We are at Wembley again next month for Green Day. Supported by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts who, to be honest, I thought were either dead or playing country and western (same thing) or retired. (2 points for the name of their greatest "hit" without resorting to your friend Mr Google).
Looking hard at Download festival as well. Aside from some old school rock bands of old (AC/DC, Megadeath, Motorhead) they have some bands who one day might be fit to grace the same stage.

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
Something to do with a Juke Box. Saw them in the 80s at Ellend (sp?) Road as support to Queen, not too bad, but now!? Also on that day were Tear Drop Explodes, who were bottled off, and Heart, who were absolutely brilliant.webberg wrote:Supported by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts who, to be honest, I thought were either dead or playing country and western (same thing) or retired. Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
1 point for Wolfie. Not quite the full title.
I can't understand why Green Day are suing her for support. Perhaps she's grandmother to one of the band?
I do fear that the Wembley crowd, expecting drivng post punk, will not appreciate American soft rock which is usually an insult to intelligence and ears. For me she fits the Bruce Springstein, Survivor, Bon Jovi type of drivel.
On the bright side, perhaps the traffic will be heavy and we'll be late and miss her set.

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
Springstein has only ever made two songs.
Play them at the same tempo and perhaps only one?
"Bored in the USA" sums him up.

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
Going to Cornbury Festival again in July.
Been the last couple of years, definately my sort of thing....not too big (you can actually see the artists strumming etc.) loads of access routes so no jams, excellent beer tents, reasonable line-up with much support given to local Oxfordshire 'up and comings' .
This year includes David Gray, The Feeling, Squeeze and Jackson Browne amongst others.
Just hope this weather holds
Mike

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
I have returned from the Isle of Wight. It was great
Great layout and nice atmosphere, the ferry and need to buy a 3 day pass kept the scum away.
Mr Webber please check out Semi Precious Weapons, saw them completely by chance. OTT but very enjoyable. Flo, Doves and Vampire Weekend were great Biffy Clyro was amazing. However Pink stole the show. Might not be my cup of tea but she was flawless, supreme professional and put together an exceptional hour of entertainment. Macca was ok, Live and Let Die was very good supported by appropriately timed fireworks. Big Pink didn't let me down and The Smiths tribute band coupled with too much alcohol ensured a great end to Friday. Now roll on V.....

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
Mr Turner, thanks for the tip and I'll check them out.
Saw Green Day at Wembley on Saturday.
ABSOLUTELY BLOODY FANTASTIC =D> =D> =D>
If you ever get a chance go and see them. A 3 hour set with their own material and covers and fireworks, rabbits (you had to be there), a dancing drummer.
92,000 people can't be wrong.

Re: Music Festivals - who's going?
Well got back from V. Great time.
So many good acts, only slight disappointment was Kings of Leon, little bit restrained. Kasabian, Calvin Harris, Jamie T (needs a good dentist) certainly weren't. Shed 7 were superb and two little treats were Hurts and Eels. Tried to add a photo but was too big, anyone know how to minimse a photo on iphoto?
