The Lollipop is here: http://www.stevefisher.com/#/en/the-pro ... trailer/1/
Dear FS -
I wonder if there is anyone computer savy to point me towards a good way to save my CD's in digital form.
I have access to both Apple and Windows XP. Ultimately, want to have the music on some sort of player, and arrangeable, movable (like, to pace...). itunes?
I am pretty tech stupid with this sort of thing.
Thank you for any suggestions!
Boris

Boris -
I'm a Mac/Apple user and we saved all our CD's in iTunes. I don't know if this is what you are asking for but using iTunes, go to preference, then click on general (the light switch icon), from there, there's a section that says "When you insert a CD". Click on the choices what you want done - import CD, ask to import CD, import CD and eject, etc... I have mine set on "ask to import CD". I find it easy to create playlist for my iPod. I hope this helps.

I read about people loosing their stored stuff when using itunes - too don't know it it is true. Is itunes then compatible with, lets say, MP3 players as well or are you tethered forever to the ipod?

For loss less save the files as flac files. Helium Music Manager and JRiver Media Jukebox are what I use. Get a second (or third hard drive) and back up regularly or use something like Mozy.

We haven't lost any (yet) and like JLiddil said, you need backup. We have external hard drive that automatically backs up everything we have. I don't know about MP3 players compatibility with iTunes. It might be something to ask the Mac people next time I'm out.BorisZ wrote:I read about people loosing their stored stuff when using itunes - too don't know it it is true. Oh thank you for doing this!schfarris wrote: It might be something to ask the Mac people next time I'm out.
I researched FLAC files - that seems to be the way to go. I like the idea of not loosing too much info... Thank you for your input, JD! Will check the also the http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ and http://sbooth.org/Max/ programmes.
Goal is to have a player that fits this gadget:

This site was useful - since I knew now that I had to look for FLAC format (Thank you, JD) I found a site that explains it pretty well:
http://www.topbits.com/flac.html
Will report on progress / usability later!

Also take a look here:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/spoons-audio-guide.htm
I've used dbpoweramp for years. Great product even the free version. The guide is really well written. I have all my music as flac and mp4/mp3. Flac is for listening on my computer/audio system for the best osund. mp4/mp3 is for the ipud.
And if you aren't tide to Apple ipod/iphone stuff, take a look at Cowon and the S9
My soon to graduate college son has one and loves it:
http://www.jetaudio.com/products/cowon/s9/
A bit odd and is not as easy to use as the Apple stuff but it does many music and video formats. When my 160 ipod dies I may look at one since I hate the way apple constantly locks their devices to third party software.
