It's a true and lively melting pot of different cultures/religions which is great but nevertheless you can feel a constant atmosphere of tension.

We arrived in our holiday destination after 22 hours travelling - both of us completely bandjaxed. Nice apartment though so a good night's kip. Up at o'crack sparrow fart and up to the gym to get temporary membership and check out the rowers. There are three of them. Number one set to DF10 records a DF of 95, some cleaning required there I think. Number two does not register DF at all and Number three records DF 130 at a setting of 10 and grinds and graunches at the pulley wheel. Not a promising sign.

The bloke who issued us our temporary membership is one of the trainers. He is Dutch and a more agressive and unwelcoming character I've yet to meet. We're off up there at 0600hrs tomorrow. Let's hope that he's not on shift.

We've hired two mountain bikes to get around on and been for our first snorkelling outing. All that plus getting the grub in for the first few breakfasts and what seems an enormous supply of beer. Not a bad old life is it|! :D

I'll report more tomorrow.

Glad you are doing some weight training

I seem to remember it's the Caribbean where you are Bill and Trish, went there a couple of times at this time of year in the naughties fantastic place, as it was so hot we could not get our brains around the fact that it was dark early there too -duh

Hope you and Trish have an amazing time :D

Enjoy-I will post a nice fast 6344m for the C2 to give you something to think about Bill when you get back  ( you are so far ahead it's going to take some major moves on my part to close the gap)

Has no one been away since Nov? I sure hope so.

I'm off with the boys for 12 days of (hopefully) glorious champagne powder skiing in Utah. [-o<
I have not been before, so very excited. Plenty of falling over in the deep stuff is fine by me :P
I say "boys", group leader is 67

Hi Steve, that sounds like great fun indeed! I never made it to the US for skiing, only France, Switzerland, Austria or Italy. You must tell me in detail how it was when we meet for BIRC.

Well, I have been away myself, but in a very different climate than american winter :D I went to Sri Lanka between Jan 27th and Feb 13th to escape winter. And it worked :D Here are some impressions from the land of pepper and spices:

HI Peter

I hope you had a good holiday. We have an apartment in Alvor, which is only a few miles from Lagos.

Just booked a flight to Bergamo for the weekend in 2 or 3 weeks time. Not decided if we'll go to Milan for the weekend or just stay in Bergamo as it's meant to be quite nice there too.

Gregor, if you stay in Bergamo you can head South for the day in Milan and explore the lakes to the North, spectacular.

I think we have now settled on a holiday.

Going to LA to see Hollywood and MM.

Then to a Dude Ranch so that my wife and kids can ride all day (why?) and I'll shoot or go rafting or whatever.

Then back to Las Vegas for a few days

Then back to LA where our eldest son wants to take us on a tour of film sets.

Leaving on 9th July.

Suspect it might be hot.

Any of you regular LA/LV trippers out there with any tips?

Hi Graham, I've been to Vegas 4 times now as my brother lives there. Never been in July and dont fancy ever going there at that time of year as it would be about 120 outside :~c
The casinos will all be air conditioned but unless you are into gambling thats not going to entertain you for long. The grand canyon is worth a visit, as is the hoover dam. Red Rock Canyon and the Valley of Fire are good day trips. Lake Mead for water sports. If you need to get out and enjoy scenery and escape the heat then Mount Charlston is about an hours drive away and is much much cooler - probably very popular at that time of year. California will be much more entertaining.
