Where should the web site go - what should we do? Who has the time between rows?

Got a few timeouts tonight (while posting congrats to the millionaires club). Posts went on ok, but obviously something downline from that was going slow - probably email out again...

I'm also getting this intermittently.

Please note that even when you get this, the posting will still go up fine, so no need to keep trying to repost.

The error is from the email forwarding system as someone is set for email notifiers when the forum/thread is posted to.

Brinkster Support wrote:Hello,

I apologize, there have been some problems with the mail server here the
past couple of days. We have resolved the issue by now, and you should
not be receiving any more errors.

If you run into any further problems, please let us know.

Thank you,

mike02: There seems to be a problem with this server - it is the second time in a month it has taken down my site
mike02: http://www.freespiritsrowing.com
Eric: Please hold one moment. I will look into this for you.
Eric: I am sorry, the server is temporarily unavailable. We're currently working to fix the problem. Please try checking your site in a few minutes.
mike02: I have! Is there any chance you could move my db to antoher server? This one seems to have regular problems
Eric: Since you are on a shared hosting environment, you may experience slight downtime with your website. Other users may be running applications that could be conflicting with your particular application. This is the nature of shared hosting. Brinkster does offer Dedicated Services in which you would be the only customer on an entire server. Please see this link for more information:
Eric: http://www.brinkster.com/Server/Server.aspx
mike02: I know all about shared hosting!! But I cannot believe that this is brinkster's only database server!
Eric: We can move your database to another server, once this is resolved.
mike02: OK. I will bear that in mind and give brinkster05 one last chance...
Eric: Ok

Seems to do that intermittently, but also seems to sort itself out quite quickly. Obviously Brinkster are having a few issues with their infrastructure, and the database is unreachable on occasions.

If that error happens, wait a few minutes and then try again.

We'll keep hassling them about it...

Touch wood, but I have not had the accursed smtp OR mysql errors this week.

Have brinkster fixed it?

P.S. I still think that the £ problem is not properly sorted.

I notice that another site that I host on the old web host is down with database problems.

I also notice that there have been no email or database problems since we moved last week :D

Looking very good, Thomas. Definitely think you've made the right decision. Am considering closing down my other brinkster hosts too.

One tiny buggette in the forum software is that when you move a chunk of posts to a different thread, it doens't reset the total posts counter on the old thread, so you sometimes go to the last page and get told there's no posts on it. Nothing serious though.

I have noticed that. It is a known bug I think, but not so serious that anyone has tried to fix it. Including me.
