Meterboard 2 - bugs and feature requests

Where should the web site go - what should we do? Who has the time between rows?

The challenges are updated every 4 hours, the meterboard, every hour. Hope that helps!

Hi Thomas, just a little thing I noticed on the meterboard, I'm not showing having done the holiday challenge 50k or 100k snowman. I'm Jim Swinfield on the Meterboard. Thanks

Yeah, that was interesting. My code was confused for some reason but it looks like it is working now. I think C2 might have changed something their end. We have been using the filtered "Free Spirits" page for the screen scrape, but somehow the code didn't like it any more. It now goes to the generic page and trawls through.

C2 were going to give me an API years ago, they even sent me some example XML to play with but I think they lost interest/ran out of money/didn't publicise it.

Erk. Updated the php on the server to 7.2 and the Meterboard exploded. Think it is fixed now. It actually rolled the season over! This will need unpicking :(

It has been reported that the Snowmen are not updating. I have looked at this and have found that although my code asks for the "Free Spirits" data page, the C2 site returns the full set of results (180+ pages). The script also asks for the next page in the honour board but keeps getting the first one. I am not sure why this might be. It is very confusing.

I am at a bit of a loss what to do. Plus it is Christmas Eve, so I am going to have to put it on the back burner.

Later:
This is driving me nuts. If I remove the code from the page and put it in its own separate testing page, it works fine.
If I hard code the string for the url (copying and pasting it from the output of the code that does not work!), it works fine.
But the code itself doesn't work.

This is now fixed. Sadly, it was my dodgy code at fault. Thanks to Tako for pointing me in the right direction. Image

In case you wonder where the snow on the meterboard comes from; it is not a bug.
I added (with Thomas’ help) an icon for the VTC.
If you have a better icon, as January is not as snowy everywhere as in Norway (I have more than half a meter in my backyard), we can swap it in.

Does anyone remember whether the C2 mud challenge had its own icon on the meterboard?

I thought that we had it earlier, but when trying to activate it for this season I could not find it anywhere. Also when looking at the last two season’s meterboard it was not there.

Will keep investigating and plan to add it before the end of the month.

It was a sort of splat icon I think? I'm abroad and busy this weekend (riding the Spring classics in Belgium) so it will have to wait before I can look at it.

No stress Thomas, the challenge runs until the end of the month and people need to row 5k/10k or 2,5k for adaptive/junior on 25 days to earn the icon, so we have plenty of time!
Enjoy your weekend/ride!

Meterboard 2 - bugs and feature requests

Post by Tako »

Yes, I also somehow recall muddy boot prints.

Had a first go at it today, but it looks like I have some work to do with fixing small stuff, but confident that I will fix it by the end of the month ;-)

Known issues so far:
- people getting double icons (those doing the 10k should not also get the 5k)
- people without meters in the meterboard got the icon (as meterboard only shows row erg meters, while challenge also accepts ski erg and bike erg)
-wrong icon (currently same for all and should be boot prints)

Thanks to great teamwork it is all sorted out. So now we just need to put in the meters to earn the icon, which is one of the toughest!

Hi Thomas,

I installed the recent C2 software update on the 28th of March and it has impacted on the meterboard showing all my season meters on the 28th. It's not really an issue because it hasn't doubled the season total but thought you would want to know. It is a pity it didn't double my meters because it would have been nice to overtake Tako .

Hi Max
You are welcome to try ;-)
The explanation I think is that on days where you delete workouts in a way that the total gets negative, the days total gets confused. It has no bad effects except for the impressive number. As you rightly pointed out totals are not affected.
That is what happened to me when doing some SkiErg meters and noticing that it added to my Lifetime total. When I removed it, I saw the same as you.
There is only one real way to get the meters; hard work!

Thanks Tako. I'll be happy to break 2mm this season and it would be nice to be top 20.

Hi, I just completed a full marathon for the challenge that is running at the minute, and I haven't been given a red foot on the meter board. My 3 half marathons are under the black foot. I only did it for the Red foot so if it can be fixed I would very much appreciate it. Cheers Jim

Meterboard 2 - bugs and feature requests

Hi Jim, it might take some hours before it pops up. But if it does not appear at all, I am sure Thomas can fix it.
