Meterboard 2 - bugs and feature requests

Where should the web site go - what should we do? Who has the time between rows?

Meterboard 2 - bugs and feature requests

Post by Thomas W-P »

Post any bugs or feature requests below. No promises at all whether anything will get done, because I am running out of steam on the development. But maybe GrantR or zootMutant etc. might take things on.

6th January 2014: big update that added graphs and a new badge.

Please report any bugs below.

You can encourage me to work on things here.

This post reserved for bugs (OP will be for updates).
  • the numbers down the side (positions) are not consecutive :?: - Just a query sorting problem.
  • duplicate rowers keep reappearing! - Took ages to figure out
  • number in the header 'xxx people rowed' did not match number in board - fixed
  • It shows the number of days in the season to date as 250. While this is technically correct in that we have not yet finished day 251, it is at variance with the number of days shown on the main C2 meter board. - fixed
  • mb2 does not cope with non standard alphanumerics e.g. Jørgen Mortensen becomes Jrgen Mortensen - fixed
  • Super Tables not visible until you click "This is me"
Post season roll over...
  • For the first half hour, all metres show what you rowed yesterday? (unverified)
  • May 1 metres problem (see thread) - fixed - this bug has always been the case but not obvious - now May 1st shows up properly on the individual page.
  • There is a pull down which allows you to select the previous season, instead of the current one. Only the rowed distances don't change.

Thomas, Great work on Meterboard 2... Well done =D> =D> =D> =D>
Not so much a bug but a query really. Just wondered why I show as having done minus 1,145,740 metres on 14th Dec then plus 1,161,330metres on 15th December instead of what I actually rowed which was the difference between the two (15,590metres). It shows correctly in the calendar and graph views on meterboard 1. The only reason I ask is because it makes the scaling on the new graph you've added look odd and I really like this feature. Keep up the good work.

I noticed that and have no idea why at all. I can probably hack the database to give you a better scale though ;)

Later: done - weirdly you had just 500m on the missing day. Your name rings a bell, so maybe you were one of the random people I deleted to see how it coped in the early mucking around.

Of course - now the marathon skews the graph ;)

I noticed a bug today. If I ever had time to go look into the code myself I might be able to figure it out but it seems I don't have time at the moment :(

I was talking to a friend at work who also has a C2 rower, and was suggesting he joins Free Spirits, and he said he was already a member. But I've never seen him on the boards. So we poked around and found that even though one part of the C2 website said he was a Free Spirit, he wasn't showing up on the member listing page. We found another setting in his Profile and set that, and now he shows up on the member page and on the Meterboard v1, but he is not showing up on Meterboard v2. Then I compared both meterboards and see that another "new" rower from today is also missing from Meterboard v2. Their names are Gregory Hill, and Abigail Lamb. I don't see anything unusual in the source html, other than neither of them exposing their C2 id at all.

It would be easier if c2 consistently exposed the c2 id!

I also found another bug yesterday where I had opened a php tag <? instead of <?php which might have caused problems in the future.

#-o UGH - I'd commented out the insert code when testing and forgotten to uncomment it. There are actually loads more members...

But now I've got the annoying apostrophe issue to deal with again. That is driving me nuts. I escape the text correctly as far as I can tell, but it puts the names in to the database with a \ in them. Very annoying.

Thanks Thomas, I guess I'll have to do more marathons so the scale looks right ... err, maybe not

There seems to be a discrepancy between the C2 meter board and the FreeSpirits meter board. Morten Haugseng is appearing slightly ahead of me on the C2 meter board with 1,231,933 meters. On the Free Spirits meter board, he is behind me with 1,195,729 meters.

I don't know if this is an isolated case or if there's a specific reason for the discrepancy, but I thought I should point it out, just in case.

Does he have otw metres? Mb2 only counts ote.

Later: I looked - his ote metres are less than the season metres, but he's no otw metres at all! mb2 is working as designed.

Now I'm confused! How can his OTE meters be less than his season meters if he has no OTW meters?

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I still don't understand. If you are taking the Free Spirits meter board from the C2 honor board but excluding OTW meters and if the C2 honor board shows that he has no OTW meters, then how do his total meters on the Free Spirits meter board differ from the total meters shown on the C2 honor board?

I'm only taking the ote column.

Still confused. Are you saying that the C2 honor board shows 3 columns, ote, otw and total, but the total column for Morten does not equal the sum of his ote and otw meters?

Correct, that is exactly what I am saying. See screen shot. mb2 uses the first column.

Thanks Thomas. So they've left the OTW column showing a total of 0 meters, but the overall total shown is 36k more than the amount of OTE meters. Now I understand.

Sorry for being like a dog with a bone about this - I try to suppress my inner actuary, but sometimes it comes out.

Copied across from another thread:

Random thought that may be difficult to add but may be useful for a snapshot of the year...

Could you add a monthly metre total when you look at your stats (when clicking your name on the metreboard) e.g. Month 1= xxxxxx etc

PaulV says you can pull this from the C2 site but I'd never even seen this and had to dig around to find it. It's fine when you get there but not exactly at your fingertips.
I do agree it's only a "nicety" and not essential but hey, if you don't ask.....

Hi Thomas

I just opened the meterboard using Google Chrome as my browser and the super table does not appear as an option. It's still working fine in Internet Explorer.

Interesting. I went back into Google Chrome and it was still only allowing the full table option. Then I clicked on my own record and clicked the "this is me" button. When I went back to the full meterboard, full functionality was in place, including the Super Table. So, problem solved.
