WAARC - Sept 2013 (1609m)

Post by plummy » Tue Sep 03, 2013 12:24 pm

After the summer break (didn't seem to last long did it?) I thought we could start with a mile (in the absence of other suggestions). Usual rules apply, just let me know your time along with weight and age and I will throw them into the spreadsheet.
I know Paul V had a concern that the numbers appear to have evolved so that some of the "older" folk are not as far ahead as before and that would make sense as I re-tweaked the weighting to avoid anyone 60/70/80+ winning by crazy amounts despite not putting in necessarily (no offence intended here) spectacular times or distances. I'll keep an eye on the table and welcome any feedback as it grows. Ideally the very very best times should float to the top but not just as a result of age/weight etc
55 yrs old, 71kg, 5' 10"
36Mm metres rowed - so slowing down a bit now!

Actually, I didn't realise that you had tweaked the age adjustments. That explains why the results were not in line with what I was expecting. It's hard to get the balance right on this one. In my own case, I'd just like to do one challenge where I don't finish paddy last. Any chance of a special adjustment for those aged 60 and a half?

As I have a decent mile under my belt, I thought I'd bump this thread up with a posting

Just need some more entries now please. Why not set for 1609m, go all guns blazing for the first 1000m (for the CTC) and see if you can hang on for another 609m - kill two birds with one stone :D

I've added you to the chart Colin but I'll wait for at least another entry before posting it up here.

If I don't get more than half a dozen entries this time I'll just let the WAARC thread die away as the uptake is looking less and less each time

Weight: 70.4 kg.

Age: 79
Philip Price
84 Lwt.
70kg. 178cm.

Here's another one:

6:35.8, 98.1kgs, 53yrs

Taken from the first mile of todays 4x2000m so I should be able to improve a lot with a proper entry later in the month.

One more for you Dave:

06:11.9 1609 01:55.5

67 YO 102kg

A long way below par but medication is slowing me down considerably (25% in measurable terms going on today's performance  )

Ouch - that's close. I think a couple more seconds off your time (or a couple of kg off the weight) and you'd be right up there in first place (not that I'm suggesting you should try [-o< )

It shows that despite the heavier frame, you big guys still have a good chance of winning this with the huge time advantage - maybe more should try

Here's my second and proper attempt:
1609m, 6:06.0, 1:53.7
Still 53 years old but unfortunately I'm now 102kg
I've had to buy some new scales which obviously aren't as optimistic... or it could be the week in Cornwall overdosing on Pasties #-o

Hi Mikkel,
No problem with that from my account. The bigger problem is that fact that my laptop with all the documents on is dead and my last back up for WAARC was back in July - so it may take quite a bit of re-jigging to come up with the table again.

Additional to that, we need suggestions for October - anyone want to start the bidding?

Hi

1609m in 5:23.3 (@1:40.4) :D

Not as good as last year but, pretty hard so soon after the 4 min. :~c Had I not done the 4 min., I would have done @1:38.something, I'm sure.

Age: 48 years and 10 months
Weight: 87 kg.

Also had a snakebite this morning, 6-7K from work and had to run the rest of the way with the bike, ](*,) #-o and that was a brand new schwalbe wheel, extra durable and only 3 days old :?: [-X

Should we just use the 3861m challenge for this - as many should/will be doing it anyway?

I will try and re-build the previous entries (lost with my old laptop death) and get up to speed quickly on this one...
