WAARC - December 2012 - 5km

December's Weight & Age Adjusted Rowing Challenge will be the same as December's Concept 2 Challenge Series - 5km.

The rules are simple:
  • Row 5km on a C2 rowing machine during the month of December and submit your time, current weight and current age either a) in public on this thread or b) in private to myself by private message. (No weights submitted privately will be made public by myself.)
  • Current weight is a weight reading that is no more than one week old at time of the attempt.
  • You can submit as many attempts as you like, as long as they are always accompanied by your current weight and age (which may be different from earlier attempts).
  • The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 1st January at 12pm GMT.
  • Times will be adjusted according to the details found here: http://concept2.co.uk/rns/adjustment
  • Males and females will be scored seperately.
  • Points will be awarded based on adjusted times, actual times, and number of entrants. Adjusted times will be worth twice as many points as actual times. As an example, if ten males submit a time, the fastest actual time will score ten points, and the slowest one point. The fastest adjusted time will score twenty points, and the slowest two points.
  • Points will be combined to determine the overall (male and female) winner.
  • A leaderboard will be posted regularly during the month-long challenge to let you see how you are faring, with a final leaderboard posted shortly after the challenge ends.
  • Each Weight & Age Adjusted Rowing Challenge will be a standalone challenge, i.e. there will be no running total of monthly points.

Looks easier after the Joe Simpson Challenge (CS). A simple: ''Row as fast as you can" over 5000 meters" :!:   Not that simple. [-X I will most likely overdo it and die several times before nailing it. #-o ](*,) :~c

I put my latest entry (last night) on the Challenge series thread then realised that the time may not get picked up from there:

19:09.6 (small improvement and hard worked for) and 69.0kg (every little helps)

Nice improvements Bill and Plummy. And well done on your SB, Philip. =D> That gives you an age adjusted time I doubt will be beaten this month!

I was going to have another shot at this today and then post the leaderboard, but I'm not feeling 100% so will do a gentle session instead. So here are the current standings:

I did the challenge about two weeks ago in 21:10.9, age 59, weight 111.3kg  .

This was done purely to make sure I entered a time for the C2 challenge series and was not flat out. I had intended getting back into regular erging during the Christmas break and doing a more intensive effort when I had built up a bit more fitness. Unfortunately, I've been suffering from the dreaded manflu :-({|= since the 23rd or thereabouts and this has now developed into a chest infection and I've just started on a course of antibiotics :-({|= .

So that will probably be my sole effort for the month, which I expect will leave me in last place by a significant margin.

Bit disappointing but still recovering from last weeks minor lurgey and major turkey
Still is should spare Paul his blushes and safely ensure my last place

So this month we're competing for last place! Why didn't you say? I could probably have managed that... (Dreading the next weigh in, post xmas xcess!)

I might as well add myself to the battle for last place! My 5km from the Concept 2 Challenge, done in early December: 19:48.4, 77kg, 38y.

I was wanting to do another 5km this week.... except I haven't touched the rower in 7 days. My argument for that is that I'm doing cross-training via an hour or so of snow shovelling for 3 of the last 5 days! Let's see if I can find where the rower is by tomorrow, but I have no idea if I'll be able to improve after 7 days of nothing.

Thanks for the entries, Mike, Paul, Stan and Grant. I've not been able to update the leaderboard until today as my spreadsheet is at work. Here's the latest, with only today remaining:

Sorry guys, but no attempt from me. I haven't had the time to do it properly. I have used the splits from the 6344m session to cover the 5K CS-round. And can therefore not take part of our challenge. :( But if I did it, it would probably be something around pace 1:48.? :!:  Happy New Year to all :!: :D

Congratulations Alan :!: =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
