Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
The Summer Solstice challenge is to do 21k in a single row on Saturday June 21:
http://www.concept2.com/us/motivation/c ... lstice.asp
We are of course going to tack on the extra 97 meters to get credit for HM while we are at it.
Lets try to use this thread only to plan and report the Rowpro sessions, and the other thread for the more general discussions and banter:
http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/ ... f=7&t=1159
Thomas suggested we have a session starting at 19:30 BST. I am on board with that as it turns out that is the only time slot I have available on Saturday, so I have gone ahead and setup a Rowpro session at 18:30 GMT/19:30 BST (the standard version, not the Beta). If that time is no good for you, please feel free to set up a second session - I suspect some of you may want to knock this out in the morning when its cooler.
Lets hope for a full 8 !!!

As you say Bill, this is a bit late for me. I plan to start mine sometime between 09:30GMT (10:30 UK time) and 13:00GMT (14:00 UK time).
If anybody has any preferences around these times, post them up and we can set up a second session. I'll be aiming for around 90mins but as ever, all are welcome.

Re: Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
My PB for HM is 1:59.9 split and I don't intend to go much faster than that for this. The pace predictor suggests 1:56 split but I am not that bonkers.

No, the challenge is open to all, just like the blue moon etc. You just need to row in excess of 21K on the 21st. Just a warm up for you Mikkel

Hey Bill. I would like to row with you guys. My wife gave me a computer tower for father's day and I now have an evaluation copy of rowpro but I have no idea how to enter a race.
Kirby
PS. I just tried to enter by checking the box beside your race but I don't see myself in the list so I don't think it worked.

Re: Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
Kirby,
If you see the box checked on the session list in rowpro then you are in, but you are probably listed as Evaluation User. To get your real name to show up on the sessions, you have to go to the digital rowing website, login there and then edit your profile. "first name and last name are what you will be known by in the session list, but "computer name" will be what you will be known by in the online chat -- don't do what I did and put Toshiba Laptop There is also a field close to the bottom for entering your 2k PB. Seems a bit daft that we have to go to the website profile to enter this info rather than in Rowpro itself, but it is a minor inconvenience.
Since race is going to be very long I am a bit torn as to what graphic setting to use. The 2-D graphic setting shows the most distance of course (up to 1k), but it just occurred to me that at HM distance there will be 2k seperation between first and last so even with that setting won't be able to see everybody ... I guess my second choice would be high res with broadcast camerawork since that flips back and forth between the different participants like TV coverage would.
Line-up has changed a bit in the last week, lost a few but picked up a few others.
10:00 GMT session now has 5
----------------------------
Dave King
Gerard Robinson
Oliver Bird
Paul Brandon
Gerhard van der Meulen -- Dutch Rowpros
11:00 GMT session has 1 participant -- "Winter Solstice challenge"
---------------------------
Mark West
18:30 GMT session has 7 participants. (one slot left)
---------------------------
William Docter
Andrew Baines -- Rowpro Rowers
Thomas WP
Tom Zalmstra -- Dutch Rowpros
Petr Oliva
Evaluation User (one of these is probably Kirby)

Re: Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
I will be doing broadcast row...
Pacing anyone?
I have only done one sub 2:00 HM row (1:59.9!) but feel I should do something a lot faster on Saturday given I can row to 10K under 1:57 as a recovery row...
So I don't really have any idea. 1:58? But if Petr goes off at 1:57...

Re: Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
Checked the pace predictor with my 2K & 30mins and it suggests 84:51.7 (which is ridiculous), put in my 30mins and 60mins which predicts 89:11.7. That seems achievable. I think the reason is I've never done a proper 2K trial
The problem I have is I'm out Friday night for beers and curry but on the 11:00 session on Saturday. .
Thomas maybe you could add beer to your predictor whereby we could add the amount of alcohol we plan to consume the night before and it would downgrade our expectations .

The predictor is not great with the long ones as you have found. This is because it is using two points to project way out in to the distance. I tried with my 5k and 10k times and the projected split was still pretty slow. Slower than I hope to go at least!

Re: Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
Kirby,
To check in, from the Session Setup menu select "Internet". It will then give you a list of and Scheduled Races "SR" that you have registered for that are beginning soon (I think it has to be starting within 30 minutes to show) as well any Quick Races "QR" that have been setup by people in the online chat. Select the session you intend to do and hit the "ROW" button -- this will check you in , give you a list of the participants and whether they have checked in and take you to the online chat. You can talk or row warmups or whatever. At the appointed time, the owner of the race will hit a button on his menu to start the race -- that buttton is visable but greyed out to everybody else. Rowpro will close the online chat window and open another menu showing the lineup and ready status of the participants. It may take a few seconds for the ready button on the lower lef to become ungreyed -- as soon as it does, hit it to change your status to ready (your indicator will go green). As soon as all the lights are green or the owner gets tired of waiting, he will hit the final start button to begin the race.
There is another wrinkle to this in that me and Dave suspect we have screwed up the session setup and that no one actually owns our two races anymore and no one will be able to start them (rowpro feature...). If our fears turn out to be true, we will setup a "quick race" at the appointed time and we will all have to withdraw from the original scheduled race. You do not need to register for a quick race, you just need to check-in.

Bill
I've PM'd you the reply I got from Orbits. Basically, (just so everybody is aware) if you have lost control of the session for whatever reason, control will pass to the first person who joined after you set it up.

Thanks Bill. That seems pretty clear, well it did until you mentioned the "wrinkle". So I guess I'll just try to be on my toes. It's supposed to be 28C here tomorrow but I'm hoping for cool (but not dry by the time I'm done) weather down in the basement. I don't think my PB is any particular danger but I'd be very happy breaking 1:20.

Re: Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
That's a 1:53.7 split
Even if I was feeling 100% (I'm not) I would not have aimed for that sort of pace. More power to your elbow.
If I feel better, I will endeavour for a 1:56 split...
Otherwise I will just try to get through it.

Re: Rowpro Summer Solstice Challenge HM June 21
The Summer Solstice Challenge (21k on June 21) is TODAY. Currently scheduled rowpro sessions:
10:00 GMT - has 8 participants - session is full =D> Just a few hours away from start now
------------
Dave King --
Gerard Robinson --
Gerhard van der Muelen -- Dutch Rowpros
Barry Turner -- Sub 7
Oliver Bird
Paul Brandon
Vincent Brunning
Wilbert de Jong
11:00 GMT -- just one ? -- he needs some company !!!
------------
Mark West -- Rowpro Rowers
19:30 GMT -- has 7 - one slot still open !!!
-------------
William Docter --
Andrew Baines -- Rowpro Rowers
Thomas WP --
Petr Oliva --
Kirby Tillotson --
Tom Zalmstra -- Dutch Rowpros
Evaluation User
These HM's are a bear to do alone, so please jump into one of these sessions, or if these times don't work setup another and hopefully someone will join you
On a personal note, I have decided to use the broadcast camera work option on the graphics menu. There is going to be so much spread in the field at the end that the 1k window in the 2-D is not going to be wide enough to show everybody, so at least in broadcast mode it will rotate between views of each participant. I also received my C-breeze in the mail yesterday, so will be putting that to the test
