Just a quick update, I don´t think you would regard my short walks, maybe half a mile in total, for training.

Cardiac arrest on 2nd of June, CPR successful: ROSC after 16 minutes. Shortly after sedated and intubated. Then hospitalized, first on ICU then "normal" Cardiac Unit. Got an ICD on the 11th of June, and sent home on the 12th. Remarkably few cognitive damages now 2 weeks after, there might be a slight problem in recalling information from the memory, and similarly a slightly reduced ability to recall the right words, but you wouldn´t notice this if you didn´t knew :!: :D

No erging for me for a long time, can´t tell now. Am taking short and slowly walks. Can´t get on a bike now without suffering severe anxiety attacks, but of course I´m hoping this will fade with time - would be practical for me to be able to ride on a bike as I´m living far from "everythingl"...

This is all from me for now - will get back with an update at a later stage... The ctc king will be back :!:

Erik, You certainly are going through a tough time and I wish you a full recovery. I have no idea what a CA means in terms of future rowing (rowing with certain HR limits?) but I hope you will be back. It would be great if you keep everyone up to date with your recovery and to misquote Churchill sometimes "success is walking".

I'd like to echo what Max said. Take it easy Erik! :fswink:

Wow. You're not one to do things by halves, Erik. Slow and steady wins the race now, and the confidence to do the things you love will return gradually. Having the ICD should definitely be a reassuring factor. Know we are thinking of you!

Thanks, Max, Peter, and Jane :!:

Yeah, you are absolutely right, Max, so happy to be able to walk :!: :D Also the staff were almost ecstatic when I was up walking for the first time I guess it was 4 days after "the disaster" :!: \:D/ \:D/ And now I have also included my electric bike on my repertoire :!: :D

Yeah, Jane, will take care :!: Not known to be a big fan on Mike C, but babysteps are what the Doctor ordered... Yeah, you know me by now - am always going to extremes - not too good at finding the golden middle way...

Just caught up on the last couple of posts in this thread. Jeez, that's another shocker, Erik.
You have always come across to me as a very sensible guy, so I don't think I have any advice on offer that would be helpful to you. I can only wish you the best on your recovery!

Pace and rate coming back nicely. In the middle of doing lots of night shifts but I will fight the erg when I wake up everyday . Moved into the top 100 on the meter board yesterday.

Decided to get up early for the cool air, and got my first HM logged for the season.

Nice HM Ian. Another 13s off that and you'd be ahead of me in HM SB's this season...;-)

I shudder at that thought of another attempt while this heat persists....

In case Mr Bee doesn't believe I'm not trying the CTC again this month - I'm pretty sure I'll be knocking myself out at the Devon IRC at the end of Sept so I need to start thinking about 5k TTs. I tried one today and bailed at 10 minutes (at 1:55.9 pace) although I wasn't physically at the ragged edge I didn't feel I could hold on for another 9.5 minutes so stopped.....then did 30 minutes more with a distance of 7281 (2:03.6 pace) - so my tank definitely wasn't empty.

I still prefer the longer distances...

Wish you the best for Devon and hope that the conditions are more moderate than currently.

A wonderful few days spent last week on the Isle of Luing off the west coast of Scotland. Spectacular scenery and thank you to the Isle of Luing Rowing Club for letting me have a go on their skiff.

Haha, I wish. That's me in bow. Not having rowed on water before my technique was interesting but the cox managed to get us in rhythm. But when we can to dock we were way too fast and almost hit a rather large fishing boat!

I know what you mean. A few years back I rowed a Thames Cutter (6 seat + cox) 100km on the Thames for charity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVtfIfLIjwQ

As you can see at any point in the video that you might randomly choose, our technique was somewhat lacking. We had just two out of 12 people that had rowed OTW at any point in their life. It was a LONG 100k! #-o

Wanted to join the new half-century club in the C2-challenges and although a first is also a SB&PB I decided to post it here as the pace was low due to some short breaks. While rowing the pace was mainly 2:38ish

Now I am pretty cooked but happy to have made my longest row ever Image Image

Thank you Felton and Max. I guess it is somewhat crazy and a clear proof that I got ‘bit’ by the C2 challenges, although that would mean I have to attempt the century club as well one day :-)

I still remember the day when a friend of mine started running what he called ultra (more than a marathon) and at that time I thought it was crazy and impressive. At the end of this week he will start for the second time at the UTMB (170k around Mount Blanc with 10k height meters). That is really crazy and impressive. So compared to that I am normal, I think, for now :-)

I did see that you had leapt into the distance with your 50k - very nice effort there sir! I actually remember my one and only straight 50k (2:12.0 pace I think) and it was borderline enjoyable (but maybe that's because it went exactly as anticipated). It was a good few years ago though!

Very impressive Tako! It's not necessary to have a rusty nail stuck into your head to do such a thing but it surely helps :D
