I did some digging around in my log for last year.

Last January prior to joining FS, I did about 47k in an average of 2:15.

This January, so far, I've done 53k in an average of about 2:07.

Partly I did this for myself as I'm struggling with various things and wanted to get some perspective.

Partly I am exchanging messages with others who are feeling similarly de-motivated, unfit, or both to try and show that everything is relative.

Something to warm us in the cold dark days of January.

If it helps Graham, I'm struggling too. Have gone off form in a spectacular way, and struggled with back injuries over the last month, after the obligatory flat-out-FM cold.

My HR comparison piece today was dreadful. But then I looked back to last Jan (only restarted rowing on the 30th after long term lay off after MTBing elbow injury) and saw how unfit I was then. Last year was the most amazing year in my rowing 'career', and here's hoping I can reach the same levels this year...

Well I just did the same and looked back at last January.

57K total in month - 50K alreday this. Had only rowed 3 times by 2oth. Seem to remember a "sparined ankle" and "a cold/man flu" but it seems weak in recollection.

Its a mental thing this erg stuff. Hopeless and unhappy Monday. Tonight 10K in 2nd best time ever - almost thought about cheeky PB attempt but settled for good hard row and more over weekend.

Hope thats me out of the trough of the rollercoaster that is the C2.

Mike - Hope you get better soon - I cant believe Ive had afaster time on the CTC for more than a week. Come on !! :)

With great credit to FS, I doubled my Holiday Challenge from last year--290,000 meters to 580,000-- this year. Beginning in January 2006, I managed to get somewhat on track towards averaging 10,000 meters per day, and when I finally hit 300,000 in a month I thought I'd reached the moon. As I hit the 2007 season I thought I might be able to continue on with a 10,000 meter daily average. I finished 2006 with about 4.8 million lifetime meters and dreamed about the remote possibility of hitting 10 million lifetime this year. So far, I'm on track to get by that by a bit. Not possible without the daily inspiration and just do it attitude here at FS.

Guys and girls - let's not get this out of context.#

I'm looking for personal help in getting over a hump and as a side issue hoping to help a team mate in similar straights.

As a personal issue I used the "look back in anger" technique" I hope (and have seen evidence) that this has resonated with it's intended target even though this might cost me 2 of your Earth pounds, I'm happy to pay that cost.

Let's all reflect on where we were without Free Spirits.

I love this club.

With 260+ members or 26 or 2.6 You all have my support, I am more than honoured in offering whatever encouragement I can in achieving your aims or endeavours in indoor rowing goals or life goals.

Try your best. Respect everybody for whatever their story, everybody is whorthwhile.

January 2006 - I was doing well for me and managed 51,368m.

January 2007 - I have been pretty unwell for a lot of the time and have hardly rowed at all. As of 14th January 62,037m.

Graham - it is natural to be down at this time of year since the bugs love the warm damp conditions in our houses. You need to erg in an icy garage like Shrek. It will keep you healthy and make you feel better.

Graham - you should go into motivational speaking. It certainly helped me this week and hopefully the increased gap on the board will spur you into action.

Sorry Graham - not been much help to you but this has changed into a pretty interesting survey.
Like yourself my form has been pretty awful since just before Christmas. To be honest this has been a bit depressing. All of a sudden yesterday and today I have put in a couple of decent sessions and I am really keen again. You just have to stick to it and eventually your form will come back and with it your enthusiasm. Hope this helps - keep at it.

One more on the versus thing.

Last year's total: 3.5MM(on the dot) Only rowed from early November on.
This year's total: 8MM+

I attribute my hard work and dedication to being part of a good team. With UNM it was different. I simply wanted to beat their top rower, a 60+ year old man who was doing 7-9MM each year. Here, the environment is absolutely lovely. I row to please the team, to sate my own needs, and to have as much fun as possible(after the row, of course.) :)
