Upgrade Complete (was: Testers needed)

Post by Thomas W-P »

Saturday 13th, 20:09 GMT.

I have completed an upgrade to the forum software and database.

The changes are as follows:
  • (invisible) database upgrade mySQL4 to mySQL5;
  • (mostly invisible) forum software upgrade - minor fixes;
  • (visible once) upgraded anti-bot software for new user registration;
  • Big update: new chat room software.
  • replacement of the rowing.flugsvamp.com domain for the meterboard with data.freespiritsrowing.com. This will mean that everyone has to click the "this is me" button again.
Please let me know if there are any problems in the thread below.

I am getting a little concerned. Only three people have registered on the new site.

Now this is either:

a) because the registration system is not working at all (erk!);
or
b) because noone has tried!

Could I please have some feedback either way?

Thomas, you had my direct feedback yesterday.
And apart from the registration issue, everything worked great.
Loved the new chat functionality 8)
Let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Cheers
Wolfie

Thomas - have tried the link and entered user name and password then OK but it keeps bringing me back to the log in screen. Is it me or the system with the problem? Can you se if I have been able to register as a user - ID = bigwavedave1

Hi Thomas - I had a quick look this evening. Everything seemed ok. I certainly cannot find anything to critisise.

Hmmm. No. There is no evidence of a BigWaveDave1 user registering at all, not even as an unconfirmed member. Can you try again please.

I really need people to test registering if they can but you'll need a "spare" email address since duplicates are not allowed in the system.

OK, OK I admit to not reading both the posts and was using the wrong ID and password.

Once over that hurdle managed to get it, register, post and chat without any issues.

Let me know if there is anythingelse you would like me to do

Thanks. Minor issues with the FS theme in the chat room but otherwise we are looking good.

I just created a test account and poked around a little in the forums, chat room and meter board. Everything seems to work fine at this end. I hope that was some kind of robot I was talking to in the chat room!

Yes, we have an illiterate Free Spirit robot in the chat room to keep you company ;) He politely leaves if someone else turns up.

What I want to do is correct the calculation for the moon shot so that it is the same whatever time zone you are in.

It would help greatly if people could go to the warmup server and post here the time zone it shows together with the timezone they are currently in. On the warmup server you'll see a little "ptruz GMT debug:" line in the header - tell me the figure at the end of that.

Thanks

I killed the Free Spirit in the forum during the upgrade (can you kill a Spirit?). Anyway, all better now.

The last day or two the meter board doesn't seem to remember who I am anymore -- I have to click "This is me" each time I check my standings on the board. Is this a problem on my end with my cookie, or something?

PS: love the challenge addition to the meter board; can't wait for more challenges to roll around so I can fill that cell with icons! I like the idea of a chat room, but haven't found anyone but the spirit in there so far.

Same here, Terry! I'm sure the rulers of software and meterboard can fix it.

That *should* have been a one time thing since the meter board is now found at the more consistent http://data.freespiritsrowing.com.

But I am experiencing the same thing and will contact JL.

The old board url still remembers and you can use that for now:

Was gone for the weekend, missed this.

The cookies issue with the meter board should be fixed now.
