World Records
I'm sure I read in the million metre challenge that Roger Bangay has done a WORLD RECORD distance for a 70+ LWT at 60 minutes.
Firstly, Roger seems to have had a significant birthday that he has kept very quiet. If that is the case then a belated Many Happy Returns.
Secondly, if this is a WORLD RECORD then many congratulations on being the quickest person on the planet over the one hour time.
Thirdly I think you are the first Free Spirit to be able to claim a WORLD RECORD.
Fantastic achievement and we look forward to more.

Checking the US C2 site, the 70+ M LWT record for the 60' seems to have been set in 2002 at 14677m, just a fraction ahead of Roger's 14606m.
Nevertheless, to get within 71m (less than 0.5%) of the world record is a fantastic achievement.
Well done Roger!

Also, an official WR will need to be done under controlled conditions with some form of sanctioning from C2. But if Roger is in with a good chance of this I'm sure the team can get this arranged for him.
Not heard back from him on confirmation of that birthday yet, so we may also be being premature, but it would explain him being on hols this week.

Hi all,
I'm just back from the depths of Dorset, and have just found this thread .
It seems that a 'joke' that I thought was between myself and Mike Channin has gone horribly wrong!!
I now realise that whereas Tommy Cooper jokes are fully acceptable, making false and misleading claims regarding one's rowing achievements is no laughing matter, and for that I apologise.
As you now know my 70th birthday is not until Boxing day.
As a child I felt deprived due to the proximity of my birthday to Christmas Day as this often resulted in me missing out on presents from various Aunts and Uncles. Even my parents were apt to forget my Birthday due to the hustle and bustle of Christmas Day . The above is a possible explanation for my sad behaviour at this time of year, and my need to get noticed.
In an attempt to redeem my erg credibility I intend to make an attempt on the 60 min WR as soon after the 26 Dec as I can. I understand the Concept rules and options governing WR's, one of which is that a record must be achieved on a rowing machine in a public place eg. A gym or Health Club, with two verifiable witnesses present. The rules apply to all ranking distances with the exception of the 2000m, which can only be made at a C2 sanctioned race event.

Another possible way to ensure a non-standard distance gets sanctioned as official may be to do it at a race venue with C2 people around to witness for us (and team members around to support too!). Probably rules out also racing at the same event though...
I don't think it is misleading either Roger - you have a great chance to get this record soon. It was just my misunderstanding that I wasn't certain if you'd already had a go...

Three Days have passed!!
Three days since Roger attained the big 70 - has an attempt been made yet ?? Go for it my boy - I've still a few years to go but am looking for the 60 to see if I can do anything in a new bracket - too many low fifties in the 50-59 group now - I want to be a low 60 !! (Ithink!!).
