Isenhurst Rowers - August challenge

This is in memory of Sean Tarling, who was one of our regular rowers, who sadly passed away in February and is sadly missed as part of our team.

100m/200m/300m/400m/500m/400m/300m/200m/100m all with 1 minute rest in between.

Woke up with a bit of a thick head this morning and figured this was the ideal way to blow away some cobwebs

Took the first two as a bit of "free pass" and just rated high and fast before settling in with a plan to stay under 1:40 for the remainder. Toughest intervals were the second 400 and 300m, but pleasantly surprised at the end to see how similar the respective splits were on the way up and back down again

Overall - 2500m, 8:03.4, 1:36.6, 34

Splits: 1:29.0, 1:32.7, 1:37.8, 1:38.5, 1:38.8, 1:38.3, 1:37.8, 1:33.0, 1:28.5

Good luck all - its a bit of a painful one

Not on the C2 Forum! but looks like a repeat of the Mercian New Year Pyramid! Remember not liking it then!

Well done Carole, with only 11 heavy men last month you were unlucky to be left on the bank as all the regular ladies obliged! great early start!

Will leave it a few weeks to get my rating more respectable (that's my excuse!) Looking forward to making my metal mistress bonce in a few weeks!

2 boats on the water already! Well done to all those who have done it. Do we know who is entered as "Chicken King"? Seriously quick addition, if you are reading this, thanks for your contribution.

One and only attempt, progressing, but would have been faster before Christmas. My current best 2k was last weekend, 7:51.2 at 1:57.8 as a guide to pacing this one.

Overall 9:33.7 av pace 1:54.7.

Nice one Lesley. Great to see Alan (Strider) posting a time too \:D/

I finished what I thought was my quick work out for the day (<20min 5k) and then realised I might not get time for another pop at this #-o
Turns out 5k is a good warm up
8:21.0 @ 1:40.2 as a 90% effort (to add to Leslie's note about pacing I reckon that is about 7-8 seconds quicker)

Yes, Good effort Lesley - I am in the same boat as you(figuratively) in that I have the frustration of not being able to get anywhere near what I used to do because of medical issues.
I had my one and only go at this one, adopting a very cautious approach, avoiding the high DF, high SPM effort that triggered off my ICD shock in December :) .
I just wanted to push hard enough that I would be fairly close in time to Erik, who has almost the identical health circumstances that I do.
I still battled around the 400-500-400 section averaging 1:47, and landed up with 8:42, not too far off Erik :D :D .

I intended to do this today, but even during my warm up I couldn't generate anything like the required rating and pace, so I decided against it and put in some gentle meters towards the Dog Days of Summer instead. I sense a mental block on the horizon [-X #-o

Well done, Paul! =D> =D> Wouldn´t want to have that ICD bouncing... [-X  Personally my ICD burst paced during the 12x1´+1´ in February 2020 (I chose not to do any CTC attempt for a month or two back then). Anyways, I think we may both go faster this month, Paul.

My one and only rule of rowing: no matter how bad it gets, do not HD!! Boy did I need that one today. Yesterday I decided against this session when I just didn't feel strong during bursts in the warm up. I had exactly the same feeling today, but decided it was "all in the mind" and decided to have an attempt anyway. It turns out that was a poor decision. #-o

I was in trouble from the first 200m onwards and was ready to HD by the time I started the first 400m. HR was sky high, legs were really struggling, and I knew the worst was yet to come. But, remember the no-HD rule. I decided to finish even if I had to coast home. The rest of the intervals were all horrid and increasingly frantic and slow. But, I ended up with a time and will sit in Boat 1 until the usual suspects kick me out. I will not be doing this again.....ever!!! Truly, truly horrid.

Well done to all who have done this one, which is once again a tough challenge! Fantastic performances by Claudius =D> and also by Sjoerd and the mysterious Chicken King

I had two goes on this one yesterday. I baled out towards the end of the 500m in the morning and then hauled the erg out into the garden later in the evening determined to do better.
All was going well and I'd even remembered to use the logcard that morning so that I could save the session as a favourite rather than have to input it again.

Well, it was tough but I was happy to say that I smashed it - knocking time off all of the intervals compared to the beginning on the month, and even managing a good chunk of time off a few of them. At the end I collapsed from the erg onto the grass until I could get my breath back.

I then went to look up the time... to see that the logcard had somehow malfunctioned and recorded only the final 100m split ](*,) ](*,)

Much swearing ensued, and I guess I'll be going again before the month ends

I decided to have a go at this today. Not having been on the erg for over 2 months, I naturally set a totally unrealistic target for myself and blew up after the first three intervals and decided to HD.

If I don't suffer any after effects over the next few days, I'll try to get back in the saddle a bit earlier next month.

Well done to all who completed this one - it never looked like being an easy challenge, and certainly wasn’t  =D> =D>

I never did manage to complete another session to make up for the one I “lost”. I did start, but went off far too ambitiously and crashed & burned somewhere in the middle of the 500! :?

Onto the 12 min…
