Nonathlon 2022

Post by paulgould »

The 2022 Nonathlon is now open for business - for those who entered last year you simply need to import your profile on the registration screen.

I will also switch over our Nonathlon tools when I get a chance. They will assume that everyone who did it last year is joining this year. You need to let me know if you are competing for the first time or if you have changed your user name.

Hi Jon

I was in Nonathlon the last couple of years but did not spot the tools until recently, would you be able to include me going forward if possible?

The tools look great and going to provide good motivation

Cheers

OK folks, it was a lot more work than I had expected, but the Nonathlon Analyser and Metanonathlon are both up and running.

Iain already has a full set of scores entered and Chris is not far behind.

I have had to change a lot of the code to make it cope with the change of season properly. Please, please have a good prod and tell me if there are any issues. [-o<

The system should pick you up automatically if you have been in the Nonathlon before, no need to tell me if you have entered for this season. But you do need to tell me if, like Chris, this is you want to be listed as a Freespirit and you were not listed as such last year, or if you decide to change your user name this season.

The Nonathlon also has a "team" system which Stan manages. You will have to tell him if you want to appear on that list within the Nonathlon. Our own tools do not depend on that list.

Jon, thanks for all the hard work you have put in maintaining and enhancing the Nonathlon and Metanonathlon sites.
The Meta is realistically the only competition/challenge that I can be competitive in, albeit against a previous version of myself, so I really appreciate the motivation that this provides.

Not a problem at all Paul. I'm glad you find it helpful.

Iain asked me to have a look at the average column. There are now two of them. One is the average of all scores. The second (Avg9) drops the lowest score if you have a full set. I have put hover text on the table headings to explain what each is - mainly for me when, in a few weeks, I have forgotten what this was about #-o

Aha! I am benefitting from the impressive value of these great tools, now that I have some representative times over 2 seasons. Thanks, Jon!

One "quirk" (far from a fault) of the analyser is te effect of improving a low lying score. This changes the starting point for the scale. I currently only have one maximal SB (ignoring FM that was maximal, but as I was not properly prepared still a relatively weak score). Before yesterday i hadn't done anything at even partial pace between 1k and 10k. As a result my 2k score was 50 points below most others. The diagrams showed a weak performance, but with the scale going down to my 2k result, the gap didn't look horrendous to last year. I resolved this anomaly with a 2k yesterday. Now with relatively close scores they all hover close to the centre and the true gulf to what I did last year has been revealed! Unfortunately I need to do proper training rather than TTs to be in a better place for the Solstice row than I was in the marathon challenge. So fully expect to slip well down the order before I address the anomalies of the middling distances probably next month (depending whether I decide to do the CTC before or after the solstice).

Thanks again for the tool Jon, I needed to see the truth!

It seems we don't have a team filter yet for Free Spirits in the Nonathlon ranking. I set up a team filter "Free Spirits" and as of now the following members are included:

Crushy
David Plumb
fkoene
gouldilocks
Grobi
jhaveman
JonTaylor
RichLindner
RogerB
Shmoo
strider77
Torquemada
tyelander

If I have missed anyone or someone wants to be added, please let me know via this thread. But remember that you have to register for the 2022 season first before I can add you to the team.

That’s something that Stan used to manage, but I’m not sure how active he is now.

According to the analyser there are more of us than there are on your list rowing this year. I may also have missed some people.

That's correct Jon, but as we are now half way through the season I thought it's about time to create a team filter.

I added

1172068 (Kevin Horne)
971417 (Lesley Duffy)
s3mjc (Mike Channin)

to the team filter.

Jon, you might want to add

RogerB (Roger Burrell)
tyelander (Peter Tullet)

to the Metanonathlon. Then both lists are congruent.

You are also now in the analyser too, including previous years. Let me know if there are years missing where you used a different name in the Nonathlon -> https://www.freespiritsrowing.com/nona ... =Davidwray

Were Nonathlon hacked a few years ago? I've been *very* wary of going near the site ever since I started getting spam mails to the address I used for nonathlon (and nothing else)

It's a shame, as I enjoyed it as a challenge

It’s the first I’ve heard of that Jayne. But that’s not to say it didn’t happen. I don’t remember giving them an email address to be honest, but it’s a while since I first registered.
