Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Great work going on here, I know what willpower it takes. Woj, I'd be interested in the oat bread to help my transition to lower rowing volumes (as at the moment I am still eating as much as before).

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Iain, it is seriously dead simple. You will need a blender/liquidiser and that is it.
I ammended the recipe given by Kelli Shalel from https://hungryhobby.net/savory-oat-flour-bread/
I have given you the ingredients, but I would like to add some extra ideas for you.
If you have plain rolled oats you will need six cups. Use the liquidiser to make them into an oat flour.
Add 50mL of virgin olive oil to help bind it together a bit better.
Feel free to add more seeds to the bread - adding caraway seeds, flaxseed (linseed), sunflower seed, pumpkin seed, and even bird seed ( I like the crunch) makes it tasty.
The last time I made it I made it with 75 mL of vinegar and it worked well.
You can add normal milk, instead of coconut milk.
Essentially stick all the dry ingredients into a bowl. Make sure the cup of flax seed is well ground (or just buy ground flaxseed). The baking soda and bicarbonate of soda give it a nice soda bread flavour and help it rise.
Put the eggs, milk, oil and vinegar into the blender/liquidiser to mix it up.
Add the wet to the dry and mix. You will end up with a sticky dense mass. Leave it to sit for 10-15 minutes, then place the mixture into a pound sized loaf tin, or any other over type tin. You will press the dough into the tin firmly. It will rise during cooking. I top the bread with rolled oats and linseed and other seeds. They generally fall off when you turn the bread over but it is nice to eat toasted seeds.
cook at 180°C for about 40-45 minutes.
Once cooked turn out onto a wired frame and let it cool down.
It doesn´t look that big, but a 1 cm slice goes a long way. I tend to eat two - three slices a day, and top with avocado (which I can get in Colombia, fresh and cheap) and poached or fried eggs, or curry for a late breakfast, which keeps me going to the late afternoon.
The original recipe called for half the ingredients and honey. I do not add the honey, and doubled the ingredients to give a taller loaf.
One, 1cm slice is 200 calories, but is complete with good slow realising carbs. and it is tasty as ......
enjoy.
If you want other recipes perhaps I should start a thread.
Keeps in the fridge for a week!
Woj
PS: I have included an attachment which shows the nutritional information for you.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Obviously I have to edit the recipe to add the oil and extra vinegar. I will do so and send an updated nutrional info sheet.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Many thanks Woj, I'm sure we have a liquidiser somewhere, but I haven't used it for years, but sounds a better option for "snacks" than many I use.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Mine was primarily due to an excess consumption of alcoholic beverages throughout the week. Just got into a bad run and kept it going. Taking a few days break now and hoping this will result in an improvement by the end of the week.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
I had a good week training - did about 90km on the rower and walked 50-60km, but ate a bit too much - just proves to me that the weight loss is 80% down to diet, if not more.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 4:11 pm Mine was primarily due to an excess consumption of alcoholic beverages throughout the week. With the medication I have to take I can't really drink, and if I stay away from Coca-cola then I am fine , but no matter how much red meat you put in front of me I will eat it all, and getting a biltong rack for Xmas hasn't helped either

I guess the long rows, dog walking at night and being sensible with my intake of food made a difference this week.
Continuing downwards to that 90kg. I laughed actually when I thought what does it mean to actually be lightweight and saw that it was 75kg, when I thought it would below 90kg. A big belly man´s mentality I guess.
I was 75kg when I was about 18 years old...that is quite a long time ago.

I fully understand your thinking about being lightweight - I was about 73kg throughout my twenties

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Back on track this week. Whether I can stay on track next week is another matter.
On the subject of the weight we were when younger, I got my weight down to 75kg in 1984, when I was 31. I was doing a lot of running at the time, including a few marathons and a number of HMs, 10ks, etc.

Well done everyone. It's all about the long game with weight.
The lightest I can ever remember being is around 82kg when I was 16-17 only because my training partner was in the 82 kilo class for powerlifting and I weighed the same as her.
Just how big is a daddy steak then ??

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Disappointingly small, actually - 16oz. Back in my running days in SA I would regularly eat 4 or 5 lbs of red meat in a sitting and was not allowed back to a few "eat all you can" restaurants - Despite that, I was still an erging LWT!!Kevinhorne44 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 11:52 am Well done everyone. These days I am still a LWT, but trapped in a fat man's body .
Because the weight loss has been going better than I expected, i am going to be "rewarding" myself in a few day's time on KFC's "Chicken Tuesday" - very much looking forward to it .

Should you be allow to mention KFC on a weight loss thread I've only ever eaten it once. With regards to red meat I haven't had anything but fish & chicken this year so far I'm hovering around 98-100kg depending on the size of my porridge or rice bowl

For me , a life without red meat is not a life worth living. Fried chicken forms a very important part of my reward system too.Kevinhorne44 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 4:59 pm Should you be allow to mention KFC on a weight loss thread I've only ever eaten it once. Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Paul,
I am chasing you down to that 90kg, give me about 3-5 months and I hope I will be there with you. So far 20kg lost since I started this thing in October. Last week I did not row as we were back at school during the week and I was just tired. However, after a good weekend rest (hammering nails into my deck) at the farm I got back on the machine last night. So last week´s weight loss is attributed to diet and dog walking. Thank goodness for Yogi (our newest doggie)!

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Well done Woj , 20kg in 4 months is great stuff - catching me up there:fsbgrin:.
I am hoping to ultimately get down to mid-80's which I think is do-able, as I haven't really been dieting, just eating more carefully - I still have large-ish meals so don't go hungry. As the weight has come off I have found the walking and the erging easier so am able to do more there as well.
I abandoned my plans for a KFC treat today as I b--ered up my back yesterday - I turned round to talk to my wife while doing deadlifts and pulled something in my lower back - probably no erging for a week or so, and limited walking I suspect.

I thought that was for the young, not the young at heart!

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread
Sorry to hear about your injury Paul. I’ve had several visits to the physio about my lower back problems and I may have to consider alternative solutions if things don’t start to improve. I’ve done hardly any erging (none so far this month), although I don’t think erging makes my back any worse. It’s more a motivation issue and frustration at how slow I’ve become.
Woj, well done on your continuing weight loss. At that rate, it won’t be long before you’ve passed me. I don’t think I’ll be able to establish a clear downward trend until I get back into erging regularly.
