October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
Hi everybody,
team Paddypower has announced the October challenge:
"The paddypower October challenge is the distance covered in 30 minutes rowing from a stopped flywheel. There are no stroke restrictions."
This one should be popular as it is another ranking piece. As a rough guide I'd recommend current 30 mins. pace

At least it's another ranking piece. I've been doing a lot of 30 min sessions recently, but something tells me my r18 UT1 pace isn't quite what is required here

Re: October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
I had a first effort to put down a marker for my fellow lightweights to trounce (you know who you are ). I did a rate restricted session of r20/20/22/22/24.
Frustratingly came in 9m short of SB!
I'd like to say there is more to come. But finishing at 98% of HR max tells me maybe not. Interesting to see what I can do when not rate restricted.

Re: October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
Well done Jon, I had the same idea this morning. With medium effort and a bit of an end sprint I ended up at 7252m, a SB (however this is only my 2nd timed 30 minutes this season).
I'm hoping to improve on this later in the month, but I'm not expecting to end up in boat 3 like last month. Hopefully you and Dave will feel good enough to pick up the pace and restore the usual order

You're doing yourself a disservice. It looks to me like you are rowing very well at the moment.jhaveman wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:34 pm Well done Jon, I had the same idea this morning. Nothing like getting a score in early Jon I have plenty of 30 minute pieces this month mostly low rate stuff but I have a 30 R 20 planned mid month only ever done 1 before

Re: October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
Some nice early efforts so far, well done
This was my first hard effort TT since before the lockdown so quite pleased to beat my 19/20 SB by 32m. Some way off my best but decent nonathlon points now I've lost a few kilos and can maybe push on towards 8000m by month end

Re: October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
First, thank you Jon for your kind words in the September CTC thread. All my blood and sweat - no tears yet - have to be doing something. Blood in the home gym scraping the bar on my shins for which I am told is a good thing.
My best 30 min is 7201 but I had programmed a 30 min piece this morning before I knew what the CTC was for October. On tired legs at the end of a long and stressful work week I present 30 mins at a rate capped 24 of 6949m. That will do for a start. I have our Qld State Champs on 11th and the AIRC (Australian indoors) on the 25th this month. Aiming solidly at the 2k at the AIRC so not sure if I may make some gains on this 30min in the last week of the month (after the 25th).
Cheers, Lesley

Well done so far, that's pretty quick, having filled a boat already.
Good luck later this month, Lesley.

Re: October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
With a season's best of 7840m and the way I was feeling I thought it might be possible to go for that distance.
Kept my eye on the projected finish number of meters and managed to do a tiny sprint at the end.
My stroke rate goes down a little, the pace up a little, all in all, satisfied with the result. 7863m. I must be very confident about myself to give it another shot this month, it was pretty tough.

Well done everyone. I also decided to put in an early entry and managed 6,682 meters @ 2:14.7. A long way off my best, but somewhat better than last months 5k.

Re: October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
Very good efforts all round
Inspired by Paul V, who seems to be at a similar stage in his comeback to me and probably Colin, I had a second go at this.
Pleasantly surprised to get 7000m even though it is nowhere near a floating boat.
Did this row at DF 160 and 23.2 spm, and I am hoping to get close to 7200m by the end of the month with a higher DF and SPM.

That's a big improvement Paul . Just keep it steady though, it would be great to see you able to make progress without overdoing it and having to step away again.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 2:25 pm Well done everyone. Well done Paul, that's quite an improvement! Good luck for your next attempt
I had my first go at this last night. Aim was to beat Wolfie's score (sorry Steve ) of 7611m. This is how it went:
Happy with that for now, not much left towards the end, so I guess I had the pacing right This was my first 30min TT since February, so it's a SB by default. I do hope to go well over 7700m before month's end.

Re: October ctc - 30 mins., standing start, unrestricted
Had my one and only crack at this today. Wasn't planning on rowing it today but after my doughnut frenzy yesterday I was riddled with guilt so I had to...
Finished with 8009m
pacing was surprisingly spot on for me!
(6 minutes)
1:53.2
1:52.2
1:52.4
1:52.2
1:51.6
Also pleased as it's a ranked distance. Another good bench mark for me for the future.

Jainser that's insane! You've obviously kept yourself very fit despite being away from the erg for so long.
Peter, happy to oblige as always
Still taking it easy a little due to my back (which is pretty much ok now)
Pauls, I'll add my voice to the "please watch yourselves" crowd.
