My season‘s best is 19:02.8 / 1:54.2 and I hope to beat that in the course of the month (certainly not today). To get used to this kind of distanca again it‘s best to get going as soon as possible. This is how it went:

Kept my powder dry for the first 4k and then went a bit faster. I was exhausted afterwards but it was not a near death experience, so I‘m confident to go faster next time.
Nice early marker Peter - your interpretation of "Keeping your powder dry" differs vastly from mine - for you it means 1:56 pace, for me it is more likely 2:10 pace :D :D

Thank you Paul, maybe „keeping my powder dry“ makes it sound a bit too easy. It was tough but not all out at that point, I wanted to have something left when the time for the finish sprint came.

I noticed you had posted a time of 22:25.0 which is a pace of 2:14.0. Are you planning to have another go?

I had my second go today with the aim of beating my current time (19:25.0/1:56.5). Plan was again to “keep my powder dry“ for the first 4k and then see if I can get somewhere near my SB of 19:02.8/1:54.2. This is how it went:

It went all pretty much to plan and I’m happy with an improvement by 13.1 seconds. The final kilometer was tough (as expected of course) but at no time did I have the desire to handle down. I hope to find the remaining 9.2 seconds for a new SB later in the month.

Nice improvement Peter ^O^ - I am planinng to have a few goes at this one - I just posted the time from my morning row which was at 19spm, strapless on DF 220, where I do most of my training now.
I am steadily but slowly getting stronger and would like to get sub-20 for the 5k this month - either way I will not be threatening your times anytime soon. :D :D

Hi Joe, the teambuilding phase was finished in the middle of september. You can still participate as an individual though.

Some good times on the board already =D> =D>

My row is written up on the PB forum post. 19:18.7 for me, so that's an adjusted time of 17:26.9 for you to chase Peter :fswink:

Thanks Peter. I registered and can now have a go at the 5000m. They also have a ski and a bike league. 2k for the bike this month. I'll give that a shot also. Sounds fun

Testing out (at least I hope, should be progress before the end of the month).
Plan was 5 1k splits, starting at a 2:00 pace, every K 1 second faster. Worked out ok, although being a bit lightheaded when I started, probably too long ago since I had eaten something, managed to keep the pace and speeded up a bit in the end.

As I said, hopefully not the last one this month.

Two Weeks Remaining

I am going to start my monthly nagging early, given Christmas is almost upon us. Two weeks to go and 5 seats filled so far. Well done to all those who have logged an entry.

Different approach this time. Started out with my previous time as ETA. Keeping in mind that I could speed up a bit at the end I knew a faster 5K would be the result.
Worked out pretty well, perhaps I'll use this strategy another time later this month. Now 13 seconds faster then last time.

Another 15 seconds faster then last time. I was hoping for a time faster then 19:10, finished in 19:06.8 so mission accomplished today.
With a SB of 18:58.9 I think I have to give it another try. But first perhaps I have to find the courage for another CTC attempt.

That's got to be so tempting to go again =D> =D> but it's still a great time Fred 👍
I'm hoping that a few days of rest during the festive season will give me the chance to equal all the great efforts the team has put in so far.

That is an excellent time Jon, very well done! =D> There is no way that I can get anywhere near that adjusted time.

After a handle down halfway through two days ago I had my fourth go at this tonight with the plan of starting out around 1:56 pace and hopefully get faster after the first kilometer. My aim was simply to beat my last effort of 19:11.9 / 1:55.1. This is how it went:

BB641BF4-5821-4926-8361-C8CFB4137D5C.jpeg
BB641BF4-5821-4926-8361-C8CFB4137D5C.jpeg (36.48 KiB) Viewed 1960 times
The first kilometer went ok so I decided to go a tad faster. The middle part was quite uncomfortable though, just trying to stay around a 1:55 pace. With the final kilometer coming up my overall pace was at 1:55.7 and I had to decide if I wanted to keep chasing my old time which required a pace better than 1:55.1 or just call it a day. But having invested so much energy and pain in the last 4k the decision was obvious  I started thinking in 200m intervals and tried to stay at a 1:53 pace or lower. With the final 200m it was all or nothing (all in this case  ), counting my strokes and I realised that the predicted tome was down to 19:06. Maybe I could beat Fred‘s time? Seems I did by 0.1 seconds (sorry Fred  ). I‘m sure you will go quicker again in your next attempt Fred, given your rate of improvement :fswink:

As I have demonstrated over the past couple of months, that is only true by a fairly narrow margin in some cases. But I’m hoping to put in an entry either tomorrow or Saturday.

You were right, Peter, another improvement of about 10 seconds.
I was aiming at a SB today, which was 18:58.9 . Wanted to see whether I would be categorized in another age group in C2's ranked workouts.
Managed a 18:55.8, which led to a 96th percentile in my new age group. Quite pleased with that, but well, being a newbie there makes it a bit easier to accomplish.
Knowing that a 1:54 pace would lead to 19:00 I started out with that pace for the first 4K, in the last K there was enough power left to go for that SB.

Good luck in the remaining days of the year.

Three days remaining - two empty seats - and one very knackered lay-dee...

Another month of almost no rowing, but I leave a free spirits tab open on my ipad so that Jon’s welcome nagging can’t be ignored :D :D

Seeing you all lay down your awesome times has spurred me on to keep this up. Thank you all and happy Christmas 🎄

Put in a time today. A somewhat pedestrian 22:08.4, which I see is an adjusted time that is a lot slower then the other 8 times that have been entered for our 8x8 team, but at least I kept my promise!

Two Days Remaining - One Boat is Floating - And the nagging is over from me

Thanks for the last ditch efforts all, especially those who are not rowing much or who are struggling with injury and form. We have a very high score for the month (95.98). If the score stays there it will be our strongest month so far, but these are relative scores and so the lead boat may put in some better times and push the score down. Anyway, it's getting that boat floating that counts. So, thanks again for the efforts.

My least favourite part of the schedule next month - 1 minute. At least it goes alongside the sprinty CTC, and it's over with quickly.
