First attempt, 330 meters, less then last year butt plenty of time left to give it another try. Though it's not very pleasant of course.

Second one today. Ten meters more, 340 now, which is one meter more then last season.
Still the only Free Spirit this month :fswink:
After the first 20 seconds thought about HD'ing, kept going though, the last 20 seconds struggled to make it to the end, but seeing the predicted result kept me going.
Satisfied with this of course, so a future attempt will be difficult to persist I think.

10m is a big improvement Fred! =D> =D>

We have three rowers with a time now. I put in a 309m today which is a bit disappointing, but it was after a 3x20min Zoom Ergos session, so I'm hoping for some improvement later in the month and maybe getting past my PB of 313 (not 213 - thanks Plummy). [-o<

I decided to have another crack at this today having managed 309m after a Zoom Ergos session yesterday. My secret weapon today was my daughter, and also doing the session while relatively fresh. I did a steady 2k warm up, then 1k with sprint bursts in it. Then I deployed the secret weapon and asked to call projected distance, time remaining and general insults or encouragement while I closed my eyes and rowed like a demon

I set off a little too fast - "You're going to nail this Dad. 20 seconds in and you are heading for 330!"
Then I started to suffer - "Come on Dad! Keep up the pace, you are starting to drop. 20 seconds remaining and heading for 327".
Then my form went to pieces, I nearly came off the seat, and my daughter went to 11 out of 10 on the volume scale. "Push. Push. Push Dad. Don't let it slip!!!!!!"

Finished with 323m which is a PB by 10 meters. My form was horrid despite all of the work I have been doing on it. I just can't cope with 43 s/m.

I think I'll leave this one now until next year!

Without a personal trainer on hand unfortunately had another go. Started out slower then last times, different approach, managed to hold on better to the pace. Even managed a negative split.
Sort of stopped one or two seconds before the end so a meter more might have been possible.
343 meters now in stead of 340, feels good.
Being in another age group now in ranked workouts of C2 this means a 95 percentile. And #1 in my country's age group.

Some great efforts and reports going on here - great work everyone. I had a rare second go (at anything) on Thursday as I thought my 294 was not representative of what I should be able to do. Conscious that my back is still tight and sore where I damaged it I set off a little bit apprehensively for the first 4~5 strokes and then ramped up the pace only to see my predicted distance coming up as 294m AGAIN!
Thought to myself that if that's the best you are capable of you might as well retire so upped the stroke rate and it went up to 295 (big whoop - not) and then just thrashed as best I could chucked technique out of the window. It crept to 300m (what I considered as the least acceptable) and in the last 2~3 seconds fell over the line at 301m. Given my SB is 311m I'm still a chunk short but also think it I totally committed from the start I could get a bit closer to it.

Set off for a steady hour = and failed again at 20 minutes so figured I was warmed up enough for another go. Pushed the damper up to 5 and 5 holes showing (the only position I feel I am decently connected to the footplate on the drive) - and managed to improve to 314m which matches my SB for last year and a new SB for this by 3m - I'll take that!

1 week remaining....so it must be time for a gentle nudge

We have 4 rowers in the boat at the moment, which is pushing us out of the top 10. Good to see so many people waiting for their January form to peak before entering a distance

I've fallen out of the habit of erging and the last few times I've done the monthly IRL challenge, it's been within a day or so of the month end. Today I decided to get on the erg for only the second time this month and I didn't fancy a flat out sprint, so I decided to do the CTC. I think I started a bit faster than I should have and I blew up mid way through the first 400m and HD'ed.

So I decided not to waste the session and had a go at the IRL instead. I was hoping to reach 300m and exceeded my expectations by managing 305m! I might even have another go before month end!

I fell on an ice plate last week and cut my right eye brow. The wound had to be sewed and I am not allowed to do any sweaty exercise at the moment. The seams will be pulled on Thursday, I hope to have a proper go at the minute Saturday or Sunday.
