Eight Days Remaining

We still have just five rowers who have entered a time. I'm hoping the rest of the team are saving their best performances for the end of the month??

My expectations for a best performance are not that high, but I certainly plan to row this distance before the end of the month. Today my first more or less serious attempt with a bit more speed then the last few weeks, for this month's CTC, and it felt relativly okay, so I my IRL entry should there shortly.

I had a second go at this last night with the aim to simply beat my current score (24:29.1 / 1:55.7) or maybe beat Jon's adjusted time of 22:25.0 which meant a time of 24:23.0 for me. I knew that there wasn't much room for improvement so the plan was to start around 1:56 pace and to hold it as long as possible. This is how it went:

Unbenannt.JPG
Unbenannt.JPG (24.82 KiB) Viewed 2367 times
As expected it didn't feel comfortable right from the start, I could just hold that 1:56 pace for two third of the distance. With 2k to go it was time to sharpen things up a bit and with 1k to go I was down to my old overall pace. Time to work on my second target, beating Jon's time  :fswink: As usual I split the final k in segments of 250m (and also, as usual, swapped to 100m segments with 750m to go  ). With 200m to go I saw a 24:23 as the predicted finishing time. Now all in, count your strokes, done!

A lot of pain for an improvement by 7 seconds, but nevertheless happy with the result. Should be good training for next month's 5k.

Peter - I am full of admiration for all of that effort to chase down my adjusted time and improve your time by 7 seconds. I have to admit I rarely have the mental strength to go 100% at an event when I think I am already at or close to my limit for it. Great stuff ^O^ ^O^ =D> =D>

Well, finally rowed this one as well. Not the best I can I think but I wanted to make sure I'd finish so there would be a time on the board.
I agree with Jon, find it hard as well to have another go when I feel I'm close to my limit but in this case I might try it again Monday. I started with a 1:58 pace, perhaps I can go a bit faster, though I haven't done much efforts like this lately. But well, all meters are welcome for the Holiday Challenge so who knows.
Finished in 24:44.3. A 1:56.9 pace. Considering my season's best for 30 minutes was at a 1:54.4 pace there's room for improvement but not that much in the next couple of days.

Finally got around to doing this. I’ve been a bit preoccupied for the last couple of weeks and I decided to ‘just do it’ without worrying about pace. I watched a football match and didn’t even look at the monitor apart from the odd glance. Possibly my slowest ever row over this sort of distance, but any entry is better than no entry. Finished in 29:14.9 @ 2:18.3 pace. If I’m feeling up to it, I’ll have a go at the CTC tomorrow.

Entered a pro-rated time from best 30 min this month (actually a sprint session), didn't realise that you could join part way through and included 1:20 stationery until saw Colin entered a few days ago. So sorry for not contributing before. Not a great time, but ran out of time to do this. Not showing on Fs list, but that was set in my profile from earlier years. Do I need to do anything else?

Hi Iain. The members of the team are set at the start of the season. It was a bit of a scramble this year because we left it quite late to arrange a team. Once the team is defined, the membership is fixed for the season, which is why your time is not showing against the team score I'm afraid.

There is also an individual competition which your times will be showing against.

I will try to get us a bit more organised next year and maybe we can get enough interest to enter two teams again. I only did it this year because I realised we were just about to miss the cut off at the start of the season.

I have struggled this month with a mountainous workload and not found sufficient time to row. Three times I’ve attempted this and three times failed to complete

Louise, sorry to hear that workload got in the way of rowing! Good luck for your final attempt! Don't overdo it, it will be very competitive nonetheless! :fswink:

edit: just noticed that you had entered your score already. An adjusted time of 22:35.9 is brilliant! It secured our 10th spot in the team ranking, thank you :fswink:

Well done folks. We managed to end the month with a full set of 10 entries. This is a great achievement at both ends of the spectrum. Some of us are struggling with time and/or fitness at the moment and yet still managed to enter a result for the team. Others are flying along and helped to give us our highest points tally of the competition so far this year with 93.85 points for the month (i.e. we ended with that as a percentage of the winning result).

The tables on the website are a mess and the Facebook update only tells us which were the top 3 teams #-o , so I can't tell you where we stand at the moment, but I think the correct answer is that we stay in 10th place. To be honest, it doesn't really matter, we all put in a time and that's far more important.

Onwards with the 5k, combined with the festive season. What could possibly go wrong??!! I'll be putting in a time as early as I can this month, maybe even tomorrow as my "hard" session of the Pete Plan. That way the mince pie and fizz effect won't have kicked in.

Good luck all, and thanks for putting in the effort and putting up with my nagging

I decided to have an early go at the december 5k today. My season‘s best is 19:02.8 / 1:54.2 and I hope to beat that in the course of the month (certainly not today). To get used to this kind of distanca again it‘s best to get going as soon as possible. This is how it went:

233D3C57-EA5D-400E-9B73-981D63CF43D7.jpeg
233D3C57-EA5D-400E-9B73-981D63CF43D7.jpeg (36.62 KiB) Viewed 1126 times
Kept my powder dry for the first 4k and then went a bit faster. I was exhausted afterwards but it was not a near death experience, so I‘m confident to go faster next time.
