Messages of support for Gooner's badly damaged mate...

Post by Gooner Neil »

Another plea for help.

A fellow erger not a FSer for shame (but he was about to consider signing up) has had a very serious accident at work whilst doing what I do badly.

He, Malcolm, has broken legs and arms and is undergoing a round of operations. The slight cloud on the horizon is although not life threatening now the phrase life changing has ominously been quoted. I spoke to a friend he was working with that night and in between the screams and ketamine and morphine his first concern was that he was going to missing an erg race the following day.

Malc had been very committed to the erg for at least three years and in an attempt to raise his spirits I'm trying to get some messages of support from fellow ergers and if we could get Mr Benton or similar herculian of our world to pass on a message of support I know it would greatly aid Malc.

Suggest you hop on the main C2 board and PM any of the famous rowers you can find. Mr Benton posts on there occasionally, so should be easy to find. You could probably also track him down through Eddie Fletcher.

All the best to your colleague. Hoping for a erg friendly recovery...

I know some of the Atlantic rowers and could ask them to send a message on.

Do you have any contact details?

Ever considered a change of career to something less dangerous? Stunt man or fire walker?

Good luck to your friend Malcolm.

Have received a very kind message of support from Mr Benton and am told by my pal at British Rowing Club a signed magazine and card is en route from the British single sculler who holds the world record. Mr Webber has also spoken to some highly committed (and mad) atlantic rowers. If anyone wishes to ad a quick note it would be great as I didn't wish to infer that only famous persons were worthy.

As my teacher used to say to our class (whilst wearing mittens and using circular paper) you're all very special..................

Malcom - I really hope you get well soon.

As a vetran of many bone and joint injuries, I can tell you that the difference between feeling OK and a full recovery is attitude. be positive - you will get to join us bunch of nutters and that metre board will get to you. 8)

malc,

hope you get well soon.

being forced to be inactive is never fun, i was once on crutches for 6 months and it was hell. i was 12 at the time and all i ever wanted to do was play football, and once i was ok to play again, it was brilliant. just remember there will be a time you'll be able to do things again, keep positive, you will get better

Malcolm left hospital this week, got taken back in cos a skin graft had failed but yesterday went home.

To all that sent messages they were a great boost for his spirits (sorry no pun intended).

He thanks everyone and thanks to those who perstered various celebrities in the world of erging and ocean rowing. Fanku.
