Don't know why I did it (well, actually I do, also participating in the FMMC with the FM programmed this month, but don't know why I convinced myself to do it) but I did.
Without proper preparation (rowed less then 30K totally the last month) rowed a Marathon today. The last one (of which I actually thought it would be the last one ever) was over four years ago.
The usual bananas and water cups on the side table. I choose a pace I thought I should be able to maintain all the way, and all things considered I think it felt less awful then my prior FM's. Perhaps because of the pace. All the way around 2:15, a few 2:14.5 somewhere in the middle, but that's it.
My heart rate below 120 up till about 15K, from then on 120 to 126 max.
Finished in 3:09:45.7, with a heart rate of 125.
My muscles feel pretty ok after a few hours rest, two prominent blisters on my fingers, also not too bad, only my head still feels a bit wobbly (don't even know how to describe it in Dutch, let alone in English) after going back and forth for over three hours.
But, having said that, earned my 100 bonus points for the Nonathlon. That my FM score is the lowest (868) is no problem, I have no intention whatsoever to do it again this season. I won't say ever, since that's what I thought the last time as well.

Well done Fred. There’s nothing like being well prepared.....and that was nothing like being well prepared

I keep trying to convince myself I will have a go at my first FM this season. Let’s see.

Fred
Seeing as you've posted this I will tell you that this morning I tried my first ever FM, only ever done one HM previously. Started OK, pretty much exactly on your pace, maybe a second faster.
Things were going well until the hour mark when my kindle decided to stop my playlist so I had to pick it up, enter the code and restart the player all while continuing to row. Entertaining but didn't lose any real time.
My big problem came right at the half way, I have real problems with tight hamstrings/glutes. (Many years of rugby and not enough stretching.)
I could feel tension building so I decided to pause at half way to do a quick stretch and then continue. As I was only doing it for nonathlon 100 points and for Dog Days yardage and I was already slightly ahead of my target time I thought this would be OK.
Anyway, not being very experienced on Concepts ( I've done more on one since lockdown than in the rest of my life) I wasn't aware of any issues with this. I jumped off, did a brief stretch (approx 1 min, maybe 1min 15secs. Jumped back on just in time to see the monitor power off :-(
Tried to restart my row but couldn't and then was psychologically beaten. Only found out later when looking online about having to press the display button regularly to stop it powering down.
I've now decided to leave the marathon for the Fall Team Challenge.
Will finish off my Dog Days yardage tomorrow with a second half marathon in two days ;-)
Learning all the time.

Thanks Jon, my head says half a Marathon is by far far enough, my heart says go for it. For myself: I think it's more likely I'll follow my head in this...
By the way, my family thinks I'm crazy. I think other FS might have to cope with that as well.

I thought of taking a break as well, since time wasn't my first concern. I was afraid it would be hard to pick up the pace again.
Must be very frustrating to see your display powering off. Can imagine you didn't restart it. I'm afraid you'll have plenty of time to give it another shot though, I don't think the virus will be gone shortly.

Good luck to both of you.

Hi Colin, you are in. Been off this week so only just seen the message.
Hoping to get back on the rower this week. The achilles tendon is still a bit tender though, so I will have to take it even easier.

I've added you to the Analyser with your history going back to 2008! There are some gap years, if you used a different id for those years just let me know what you used and I will stitch the histories together for you.

Just finished my first ever marathon. First distance over HM actually.
Was just doing it for Fall Team Challenge metres and the 100 nonathlon points.
3:24:00.3 , my target b4 I started was to come in above 3:30 but as I got going my 'in my head' target was 3:25
Lots of aches and creaking while doing it. I hate to think how I will feel later.

Well done Crushy you did it matey. I remember having a long hot bath after my first marathon row and really having problems getting out afterwards. Then after the Paignton event having a dip in the cold sea it still hurt for days afterwards but hey that's a marathon for you.

Second 800+ score - 806 points for a 20:41.4 5000m.
This one was different - the outside light packed in so I had to guess when I was near the finish - landed up having a 15 sec stop with about 500m to go.

Rowed it strapless on df 215 and averaged 26 spm, so I think I should still go a fair bit quicker later on in the season.

Nice to see Paul 8)

I went for a steady controlled 10k tonight and did just that for 39:20.5/1:58.5/R22
Surprised that its a seasons best and 8 extra points to round up to 8000 exactly.
A pleasant evening all in all.
