JUNE CTC - Free Spirits to choose

Post by Wolfmiester »

Its our turn to come up with an interesting and/or challenging piece for next month ...

Having done months of set challenges for the nonathlon, Indoor rowing league etc, I fancy an off spec interval session. But not too sprinty!

I'll start a suggestion list with
a) 9 min, 7 min, 5 min, 3 min, 1 min / 1 min rest

Sounds good, but I would prefer a longer rest, 2 or even 3 mins?

Wolfie, That sounds unbelievably awful, even by CTC standards! I can't decide if it's inspired or evil. Probably both

Sounds terrible, Wolfie, so I think it's quite a good choice ;)
As for the rest intervals, I agree that a slightly longer period would be nice, but I seem to recall that the total time shoudn't be too long.

Yes Fred, the overall session should be not longer than 45min really.
So it could be 2min rest, which would make it 32 min in total. But of course most people would want a warm up...
In conclusion, I think 2 min would work as well.
Just my first suggestion though, feel free to offer anything else.
Max, I'll take it as inspirational :-)

This sounds absolutely joyful! All the odds together. Can I suggest the rest be 1.30, 1 just isn't enough but 2 might be too much.

I like Plummy's proposal to reduce the rest as you go forward. My proposal for rests would be 2:30. 2:00, 1:30, 1:00.....or you could even switch the rests around so you get more rest as a reward for proceeding!

Anything other than set interval times is a problem for those with older PMs ?

Steve, you are right, you canβ€˜t do variable interval sessions on a PM2. I like your initial proposal, with a fixed 1 min rest, to not make the whole session too long (incl. w/u and c/d).

The first proposal I find a bit long, so what about
7min-5min-3min-1min with 90sec rest?

Or if one wants all the first prime numbers you can add an additional 2min in there.

When is the deadline for sending the final proposal?

I agree with Tako's proposal, but maybe with 2 minutes rest between intervals? 90 seconds is a bit short if you want to get up and walk around between intervals. And that way, we are getting the first 5 prime numbers in.

EDIT: 1 is not a prime number!

I started typing a reaction but can't figure out at this moment which one I would really prefer. Not very decisive at the moment. Doesn't help a lot I'm afraid. Sorry :?

I prefer the 90s rest and happy to add 9 min up front as well if it isn't too long - A quick poll required perhaps as per Liefcat suggestion ?

I think we are pretty much, mostly, all in alignment.

Seems 7", 5", 3", 1"/90s rest is agreeable ?

Agreed on both points. A 9 minutes followed swiftly by a 7 had little appeal in my camp so dropping the 9 but going to 90s rests seems a good compromise

Works for me if we are close to agreement. Personally I agree with Paul and prefer 2min rests, but I’ll go with the majority.

Fine with me, although I also could live with the 2min rest to complete the prime number series ;-)

I thought there was some way of including voting buttons in a post but, if there is, I can't find it. There seems to be a consensus on 7/5/3/1. Regarding the rest period, we currently have 2.5 votes for 2 minutes and 3.5 votes for 90 seconds (based on Tako saying he's OK with both).

Maybe have a quick show of hands before we make a final decision?
