APRIL 2020 - CTC - 3x1721/4r
Hi team,
there is a minor discussion on the C2 CTC thread about whether to suspend the CTC or not, as many regular participants do not have a home erg.
Its "Independents" choice and they have not posted anything anyway yet (which means it defaults to a 2k if they don't )

Re: APRIL 2020 - CTC
I guess we should agree what we do at our end if they issues a CTC for April. Given there are some Freespirits who will not be able to enter, and that this would have quite a big impact on their ranking in our league table, I propose that we do not capture scores until normality returns (if normality will ever return!). I would be able to row, but really don't want my position to go up just because others were less fortunate.

They have declared a CTC for April
3 x 1721m 4 mins rest
record your time for the 5163 meters
standing start first rep, personal choice for remaining 2.
3 April. 1721 Robert Walpole became the first Prime Minister of Britain

Okay, let's go for it then.
As for Jon's suggestion to postpone capturing our scores on the one hand that's fair to those not able to erg right now, on the other hand, with not very much else to do perhaps for those who can row it's an extra incentive to keep moving.
Anyone any suggestions?

If the event is still running then I hope that would be motivation for people to row for the team and to get as many boats afloat as we can.

Re: APRIL 2020 - CTC - 3x1721/4r
A halfway house would be for anyone without access to an erg to declare this and be creditted their average for Jan to March, I would probably allow any NHS worker to be allowed to do so as well. On reflection, March should only count if done as they might have done this late in the month (as I do), or perhaps improved, so perhaps only include March in the average if higher than average of Jan-Feb. On the basis that it ius not always easy to row the single day of the Carole Mac Challenge, I would vote that this is omitted.
PS: Any thoughts on pacing for this one? I was thinking maybe 5k-1?

It might not be an issue if all regulars have an erg. But it'll be really obvious in terms of the league table and so should be easy to identify, check and award points so no one is disadvantaged. Personally I'd take their typical boat position from the last 3 months and then award them the same points as that boat earned this month.
PS Any points awarded really has to match the number a boat earns in that month to avoid any future issues (however unlikely they may be). For example, say two people were always in the same boat. One misses April. At the end of the year they should be equal on points. Awarding a higher or lower figure for missing April would lead to a different year end result and therefore would be unfair to someone.

Re: APRIL 2020 - CTC - 3x1721/4r
Maybe a little faster? The total is 5163m and there are 2 x 4 minutes of rest. I checked a couple of random early scores and they were 1.3 and 1.5 pace slower than last month. So taking that and my 5k time as a guide would mean 5k-3
Calculation: March CTC 1:44.4 + 1.4 = 1:45.8. Best recent 5k 18:10 @ 1:49.0.

One way to address the Corona effects on the table could be to use the average score for ranking this year.
Due to neck issues my scores aren’t as usual, so I have no strong opinion, but I like the idea of trying to achieve fairness.

Re: APRIL 2020 - CTC - 3x1721/4r
Sounds fair to me, but might be tricky in lower boats where the number of boats varies on the challenge and if we have a lower turnout, someone usually making one of the last couple of boats might find themselves on the shore! Also, not sure how you deal with those who don't make every challenge.MaxMacLaren1 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 4:22 pm It might not be an issue if all regulars have an erg. 5k-3 is scarily fast. Will be interesting to see how people do.

Managed 20:14.0 - and died in the last rep with jelly legs. Nearly HD'd 3 times but voted for keeping going no matter what just log a score.
Average was 1:57.5 so 5k -3 isn't that far off (certainly do-able for someone fitter than me). Cue Jon T....

Given I am still trying to throw off shingles and also sticking with a low-exertion regime when I get back to exercise, I think you are safe this month Plummy. But........you never know

Thanks Max - it was. Sunday's training was cut short by my body crying "enough" as I rowed myself to a standstill in just 7.5k. Still sore today!

Re: APRIL 2020 - CTC - 3x1721/4r
Thank you very much for the pace guide chaps.
5k - 3 gave me 1:50 on paper. But it scared me [-X
So I went for 1:51 ...
1 - 1:50.8 / 26 not bad
2 - 1:50.7 / 26 still not bad
3 - 1:48.6 / 27 good start, held it in the middle, sprinted the last 250
Gave me an ave of 1:50.0 !! Bang on the theory. (CTC rounded it up .1).
So it proves once again that knowing your numbers works (and setting a target slightly above!)

Hello, I'm adding this message to a few of the most popular threads in the hope that as many people see it as possible. Concept2 have launched a new spring challenge, the Spring Vlll Series. It's easy to get involved if you want to. Just row 6k by 12th April and log your time in your Concept2 logbook. Our Captain Stan will then select our boats. Details are below and you can follow progress on the Spring Vlll thread. If you're reading this hopefully you'll want to join in. It would ge great to have both experienced and newer rowers involved.

Re: APRIL 2020 - CTC - 3x1721/4r
I put in a time, mainly just to add to the number of participants. Let's just say you have nothing to worry about this month Plummy.
Four weeks of various viral ailments has completely screwed my fitness levels. I struggled to keep above 2:05 and yet my HR was sky high. I surrendered and just did an R18 row through to the end.
There are a couple of boats ready to float if we have a few more ladies put in a time [-o<
I think it's also fair to say that our participation has been hit quite hard compared to other months, unless there is an end-of-month surge.
Hope you are all keeping well folks xx

Re: APRIL 2020 - CTC - 3x1721/4r
The idea was to pace at around 1:48.3 to test the pace needed to turn my meta-nonathlon 5k green. It went according to plan in 18:36.3 @1:48.1 but to keep that up over 5k would be hard! Fitness felt ok but lacked power to comfortably (not sure that is the right word) hold 1:48.
