Must be my turn to go first Louise. Overall time of 8.16.4. Recovered quite quickly so probably more in it but I'm unlikely to have another go. What a fun way to celebrate level up day, 55 is the new 30 , I just had to work of breakfast out and dinner will be out as well.

Lesley, Many Happy and Healthy Returns of The Day.
It’s 13.32 here and ( I think ) about 23.32 in Brisbane, so I hope that despite the lateness of the hour, you are still enjoying your birthday celebrations with family and friends.
Well done for putting in an excellent CTC time, that’s a grand start to all your youthful years to come.

A day off, nevertheless congratulations Lesley.
Just finished this month's challenge, it was quite tough. Especially only one minute to recover between the second and the third rep. Don't know whether I'll try this again. The result with all sevens (7:7.7) looks too pretty to ruin it with a slightly faster time...

Well done Fred & Lesley. And Happy Birthday Lesley! Great that you have set me a target. My January is blighted by overseas work travel but you can be sure I’ll be coming for you towards the end of the month . Louise

Hello, had a go for this month ctc on Friday - it was a painfull one as usual and no...i wont do it again...so kick me out of boat 1 ...there will be no revenge
the splits...have fun…or lactic acid, or just a relaxed row to float another boat...

Just pipped you Lesley - but probably only because I had a target to aim for!
Louise
Left you a few days to bump me out: don't think I've time to have another go if I'm to meet the January challenge. Got a lot of hours to make up before the 31st...Louise

Well done Louise, especially as you have been travelling. I doubt I will get another go in before Friday as I have other sessions to row. I'm hoping your willing (and able) to give the Feb ctc a go first . Cheers, Lesley

Re: January CTC - 1k 2r/520m 1r/500m
Well done to all who have given this a bash. The turnout looks quite low at the moment with just two rowers in boat IV, a shame given we have plenty of female and light entries and so boats will float if populated.
I haven't rowed this month and so really didn't have high hopes. My fitness levels are pretty good though after a lot of cycle training. I did my traditional peek to see how Plummy had done, and I normally assume I will come in slightly off his pace, but it always gives me an idea and a target. Plummy sits at 7:34.5 with a pace of 1:52 so my plan was to hold 1:52 for as long as I could and inevitably fade away towards the end. There were no clever plans around distances and interval lengths. Just sit and row close to 1:52 and see.
That didn't happen!
3:39.6 1,000m 1:49.8 1209 30 183 - ok so I have gone way too fast already! My HR is already close to max. But hold on, that's quite a lead over Mr Plumb
1:54.8 520m 1:50.3 1195 29 183 - starting to fade. starting to feel sick. still ahead, but just a 60 second break.
1:52.4 500m 1:52.4 1148 28 182 - instantly regretted gulping water during the rest. really feeling sick now. legs are dying
Somehow I managed to keep going, albeit getting slower and slower. Finished on 7:26.8 and joined Mr Plumb in Boat II.
Thanks, as ever, for the target Plummy.

Nice row Jon....hmmm (he says somewhat through gritted teeth).
As you say, you had that in the bag from the end of the first rep as the latter two are pretty short and allow for quite a fade off. Pretty darned sure I'm neither mentally or physically up to attacking that. 3~4 seconds overall, maybe - but 8s - can't see that...

Tried this. Intended to do 1k at 2:01 pace rating 28. First attempt 3:52.2 then crashed and stopped in second interval. Did recovery row and then tried again. Still started too fast, managed to speed up in the second as planned, but legs went on final, slowed for a stroke and limped home but given pitiful fitness level happy with:
Time Distance Rating Pace
03:55.0 1,000 28 01:57.5
01:58.5 520 32 01:53.9
01:56.4 500 33 01:56.4
07:50.0 2,020

Hello & zoom, there went January!
Jumped on to try this one, having forgotten that a visitor had pushed my erg damper up to 10! That made for an exciting first interval. Ended at 8:09.2.
How nice to stop in and see so many ladies posting. Happy belated Lesley!

Re: January CTC - 1k 2r/520m 1r/500m
Jon, Great write up!
I've not done much rowing this month and it showed. Was hoping for 1:40 (1:42 then 2 lots of 1:38) but it didn't go to plan. The first interval was 1:41.4 and any hope of that being good news disappeared half way through the next interval. I was seriously tempted to HD but as I still have the IRL to do that wasn't an option. For the final 500m rather than risk a sprint start I went for steady pacing but there was no way I could hold 1:38. So overall 6:45.8, @1:40.4.

Re: January CTC - 1k 2r/520m 1r/500m
Well done folks.
2 more late entries here.
Mr Hayter popped in a decent score after no training this month (I did notice just behind Elena Buryak, and mentioned it).
I've just re-done mine after an aborted attempt on the 13th.
Protected my sore back a bit for ave 1:45.6
Don't think I'd have done too much better anyway and another seat filled.

Great to see so many entries in the last few days. Not everyone full power, otherwise I wouldn't have made it to boat 2 so I'm not complaining
I'll work on the sheet for this new year soon.
Have fun with the twelve minutes in February.
