Anybody want two lowly rowing servants from the UNM team?

Post by Tom Barrick »

No one was sending me an invitation to the team, so I thought I'd ask for an invite for myself and the wife. We only have a bit over 7MM between us, but figured it might be a nice push to the moon. I need a good team that is solid to finish my season, at the very least, with very little team politics. And...er...wifey agrees with me. Also, I can be funny. <stares his goat-eyed stare>

<awaits responses>

PS: I enjoy Richard White too. He's a good man. :)

If I may add to this request. I'd like to bring Mr. Nigel Ferris back to the team as well. I think his 12MM might help too. Just a thought. He's willing to come back, I should add. 8)

For Tom and Nigel,

I for one would welcome a relegation down on the meter board to have you all join Free Spirits. It seems most appropriate that the team that is doing so much to inspire us all to row (and row, and row) should have you amongst us.

i think the policy is:

if someone wants to join, then they're in. if you want an invite...

hey guys, you fancy being free spirits?

just reply "yes, please", register as a free spirit on the online log and bob's your cousins' mother's husband

Hi Tom,

I think I can speak for most or all of us in saying we're happy to welcome pretty much anyone into the team - our only condition is that any member is respectful of the others.

The only thing that concerns me a bit is the reference to team politics, as we wouldn't want to get drawn into anything like that, and we wouldn't want people joining and leaving again to score political points. (I'm sure that's not what this is about, but you can see the point)

As far as I remember, Nigel left us because he had issues with the publicity generated by the meter board. As a team we agreed that the meter board is a core part of who we are, one of our best assets, and we love it just the way it is. Don't know where this leaves things...

All that said, we would love to have you and your good lady wife on board, and the goat-eyed stare is a definite plus point!!

Two votes "aye" is about all I needed at the time. Now it'll take some votes to get me off.

I'll throw in 4 days worth of metric consumption early tomorrow morning, for the UK folks. *Very* glad to be part of the team, and happy to have you all to chat with on occasion. :D

All been said above...

...You are free to come, free to go. I think you are the first person to officially ask to join!

Just respect others - that is all we ask.

And if you can have fun and shave, say, 2% of the meter board that would be great ;) (I nearly fell off my chair when I logged in just now).

Thomas

P.S. And politics. Ik. Don't like that - we try and avoid that sort of thing and have healthy banter with other teams (I have just been discussing kit with sub7 in the c2 forums - I agreed (with myself) that our kit is the best but theirs is a close second ;))

Welcome Tom and Jennifer.

As has been mentioned by Mike and Thomas and no doubt will be by others, we don't do politics here.

We do respect for others in every way whether we row 1k a week or 100k and whether we are sub 7 minute power junkies or happy just to finish.

Most of us find the metre baord and its recent enhancements an irresistible attraction whilst others hardly ever look at it

You'll also find that the various ELM challenges will have something for you. Probably look in the "Extreme" one first.

Now if you just contact Ptruz, he'll fill you in on the initiation rites.

Tom, you'll learn when you have a few more metres under your belt that pacing is important.

It would be interesting to see your log. If you are so inclined, this can be arranged via the C2 profile by selecting Free Spirits as a training partner. You can see on our metre board that many of us do this by the book icon appearing. Up to you though.

Heh! My log is empty as far as the good stuff goes. I only have my metric production in there, no times or anything. I usually know how well I'm doing during the CTC challenges, and sometimes ELM. Depends. I am all about the open-book you guys are doing, however. So, when I finally get to logging my last few days in there, you'll know that it really isn't me doing 150K in one good shot, just 30, 40, 50, 30.

Sure, I'll get that going. Read my log, bore yourself to tears.

Thank you again for the welcome!
I've eyed this group for the past few months and knew it was something that was necessary for me to excel in rowing. I've become lax in my shorter pieces, rowing against my well-aged friends. It wasn't a difficult decision on *where* I wanted to go upon leaving. :) Here to stay until the moon is shining brightly in our faces...as we stand on it. Hell, we can probably row on it a bit, too, just for fun! The bright side, not that other side...that'd be bad.

I'm deeply into CTC and will do a 5K for FS after the Holiday Challenge. My goal is 1MM from Nov 23rd until Dec 24th. 32 days of bliss, really. Halfway there! Anyway, I always knew this team would "get us." Already made peace with my old team, with each and every one of them, via email. There is a certain beaming brightness and spirit here, and the warmth. The communication is outstanding as well. No complaining from me.

I'll have some comments on the log book shortly. Oh, this'll be fun.
