December ctc - 7 x 1 minute / 70“r

Hi all,

team Sub7 have announced the ctc for December:

„7 x 1 minute / 70 secs rest between each rep.

First rep from a standing start. Subsequent reps as you like.“

I‘d say that‘s one for the sprinters. Any ideas re the pacing?

Been doing a few 1min off 1min off lately but only at r20. So could get a few of these in December. Might start at r20 and work my way up in rate every week and see how it feels. 😎

Went early in a somewhat desperate attempt to cultivate some speed ahead of the BRIC on Saturday. Barely sat on the machine for more than 2 weeks now (Scottish IRC races notwithstanding - which in retrospect may not have been the best idea) so held this to rate 35(ish) to see what would happen. How I feel tomorrow when I wake up will determine whether this was a mistake or not...

Thanks, Mat :!: Yeah, I´m fine, very few VES these days, means a lot to me. Ergingwise I have a different approach from my inherent competitive "always wanna do my best" attitude, to now where the focus is on the general energy I´m feeling for the rest of the day. 2034m in my first (I think I will do more than one), especially in the last 3 reps slowing down because HR was getting a bit high (140-145bpm) for me...

well done Erik and Guy ! Also wanted a early go on this...my training is more with a focus on longer aerobic cycling rides rather than short sprints, but i swore to me not to let the rower out of the game- so at least one ctc attempt and some recovery rows in the month !

for those few rowing meters i´ve done the past months i am quite happy with that attempt, for a change with rowpro...

Great early starts from Guy, Erik and Claudius =D> =D>

Hoped the cast would be off yesterday, but have been told it needs to be on for another 3 weeks, so I'd better get used to the erg  Took a shot at this one first thing today; went too fast on the first one but somehow managed to recover enough each time to get close on subsequent intervals. Happy with that...

Some very powerful early entries above - well done chaps. I had a go last night but forgot to type anything (generally as my efforts don't compare well to the fast guys).
281 - 1:46.7
281 - 1:46.7
282 - 1:46.3 (had thoughts after rep 2 of trying to get 281 on each rep but blew it on this one :-( )
283 - 1:46.0
285 - 1:45.2
287 - 1:44.5
289 - 1:43.8
1989 total and 1:45.5 average. Being 11m shy of 2000m makes me think I "might" be able to improve a fraction if I go harder on the first 3~4 reps but I fear I will lose at the back end - maybe one more go...! (just noticed my stroke rate is a lot lower than Claudius so there might be a few metres more by pushing it up from my 33spm average)

Having done very little other than mid-distance rowing at r19-21 I'm really looking forward to this one.........NOT!

Not too happy about another sprint challenge, because although I tend to manage a good score for sprints, I do not like them.

Especially these days with a lot of travel and focus on getting the 200k for the holiday challenge, the sprints are tough.

Hence, I thought I get it out of my way as early as possible:

So now all C2CTCs done for 2019 :-)

Lots of great early scores this month. I wonder if everyone is posting a result before Christmas party season! Part of my SRIC preparation was a horrible 6x1.5m with 1mr which I managed in 1:38.3. So applying Paul's Law would suggest a target of 1:35.8 but I really wasn't sure if that was doable. The first interval suggested it was but after 3 I had to back off or risk blowing up. Pulled out all the stops for the final interval and managed a total of 1290m @1:35.8! Now where are those mince pies .

PS Mince pies might be a British thing. Delicious sweet pies filled with fruit, spices and a little brandy. Insert your favourite festive treat as you wish.

I've been working on the holiday challenge mostly this week but today wanted to see how this would go. Fortunately no more lower back problems, so no physical limitations this time.
Dave mentioned that he was going to try to increase his stroke rate but for me a lower stroke rate with more powerful strokes worked better. My pace might increase but not for long.
Happy with the overall sub 1:40 pace.

Now it's time for the second half of the holiday challenge, the IRL and then, perhaps, another attempt.

Nice session there Fred and good to know you're on the mend! Interestingly rep #1 (standing start) was quicker than reps 2,3 and 4 (rolling start). Did you not want to overcook it to have something left for the final three reps?

I was afraid to go too fast but then I found out that a lower stroke rate was easier to maintain throughout the reps. So I think I can improve my score a bit. I think all reps in a sub 1:40 pace should be possible. Well, let's see.

Welcome back J :-)
Nice to see the back holding up Fred.

Had this planned for today, and wanted to make sure I was solid in boat 2 (for now) so aimed for Tako @ 1:39.0. But then I caught Dan's time and wondered if 1:38.5 was possible ...
Basically, it all went to plan for a change. All under 1:38.5 except for 1 where I missed the start. Final rep at 1:36.1 gave 2142 at an average of 1:38.0
Come on Tako, you don't want to be beaten by an old man

Well, I definitely feel like one.
Was already struggling with time and mojo for erging the past months, but lately a cold and neck&back trouble make me even worry whether I can make the 200k pin for the holiday challenge. We will see, there are still days left.

Regarding the C2CTC however I think it was it for this year and Claudius passing me in the table is only fair as he has one challenge less and always rows faster than me. With the current second half of the year I am happy to not have fallen of the erg (still close to a 6k a day) and in Boat 1 seen other the year, also thanks to late joining forces and injuries.

Good luck to you all and congrats with the great results so far. Keep the scores coming and boats floating!!!

I have attempted this twice but bailed out both times. Been struggling with back issues which I believe are due to hitting erg too hard after 5 months away from it (other than a few monthly ctcs) so the sprints kill me. I will ease off and try again at less effort just to float another boat within next couple of days.

Great going guys! Deja vu, saw this months challenge and Eric, Jason and Mat posting... although the erg is a bit foreign to me these days, I thought how much could seven 1m intervals be, with the extended rest 🙄😳

Actually pretty painful 😂

2214m 1:34.8 30spm average

Better than I'd have thought 🤔... But room for improvement

Yesterday's massage helped me I guess. Made it to the second seat in boat 2 for now. but, as might be expected, it was tough :fswink:
Sort of consolidated in the 5th and 6th rep, which gave me the oppotunity to finish with the fastest one.
Don't really think I can do any better then this, but very pleased with it.
O, and by the way, what was exported to C2 was one meter less then what the picture says. So my ctc score is 2166.

With my usual complete ignorance on pacing, I overcooked this and had to bail out after 4 intervals (who knew you couldn’t go flat out 7 times in a row 😂). What I didn’t realise was that on my next attempt I shouldn’t hit the ‘rerow’ button. Yep, the PM5 bailed me out after 4 intervals 😱. Reckon I was pacing it quite well too. Now I have to make a third attempt before I eat too much Xmas chocolate...

Pleased enough with that: don’t reckon I could go much faster... And it floats another boat...
