Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
That's a great idea Dave! Shared pain is half the pain
Had my second go at this last night. My first atempt was a 24:32.1 (1:56.0), so the plan was to start out 1 second slower in pace and then try to speed it up from there. This is how it went:
Everything went pretty much to plan and with 1k to go I was at 1:56 overall pace. So I had 1k to try and better that. It was hard towards the end but neverhteless happy with an improvement by 7.4 seconds.
For anyone interested why the November challenge is covering such a strange distance: it's called the Joe Simpson challenge. Joe Simpson is a british mountaineer who - with his climbing partner Simon Yates - had an accident descending the Siula Grande in Peru (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Simpson_(mountaineer)). He broke several bones on this occasion and used the C2 rowing machine for recovery. The mountain the accident happened is 6344m high, hence the distance of this challenge.

Attempt #3 last night with another small improvement:
This is still three seconds slower than last year but things are pointing in the right direction

Three seconds over 24 minutes+ time as a percentage is almost nothing - so it sounds like it was a great row to be fair

Well done Peter, and thanks for the reminder. I'd forgotten about this
OTW tomorrow morning (if it doesn't rain constantly overnight) and work travel Mon/Tue, so a last minute attempt for me next week probably (I did a 5k on Thu as well, could easily have extended it )

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
With my back still not well enough for sprints I decided to do a cautious attempt on this month's IRL row.
Thought a 1:58 pace wouldn't hurt too much. Felt okay, decided to speed up a little bit and managed a negative split.
It's about half a minute slower then last year but under the circumstances I'm happy with it.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
My first really hard middle distance for a while. I couldn't quite match Felton's great time but pretty pleased with 23:09.4 @1:49.5. Adjusted that equals 21:11.4. And because I can pro-rata down and use the 1:49.5 for the Nonathlon 6k that gives a handy 919 points .

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
Nice pacing Max, and good to see you with a score Fred
For some reason I thought Peter had done 24:03, but now I see I was confused with Dave comments about 3 seconds off
I set off targeting 24:03! Soon gave up after 2k and settled in to a cruise...
Finished at 24:14.5/1:54.5/24. (edit: 35s quicker than last year, got to be happy with that)
Which I now think is in front of Peter, I'm totally confused
Doesn't move the team position, but it means everyone has popped a score in again.

Scraped to a 20:11.6 for the December 5K. Had to back off in the 4th kilometre but managed a sub 2:00 pace (just) for the last km with the sprint finish.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
Wanted to see how it would go. My aim was a 1:55 pace but after a while thought that a sub 19:00 minutes would be a nice target. Finished at 18:56.7, about 22 seconds slower then last year but at least it was 903 points for the Nonathlon. Happy to pass the 900 there.
As opposed to the CTC here it felt a bit more comfortable to raise the stroke rate a little for the last stretch.

Well done, it is always good to score over 900 in the Nonathlon . I confess to having a go on Sunday wondering if I could trouble my PB. Not a chance and I HD'd after 3,500m .

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
Just about got this in before the Christmas festivities start (out tonight, tomorrow, Sat & Sun!)
Hardly done any long time trials as I'm either doing intervals or steady 10ks.
Happy with the way it felt, slight neg split for 18:46.2 @ 1:52.6 / 25
Slightly disappointed with only 888 nonathlon though

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
Although we never managed to get two teams together, I’ve had a go at the different events each month for ‘fun’ (). Fuelled by high calories Xmas treats this month turned out to be a cracker (pun intended)...
Happy Christmas to you all.
Louise
Not only was that much faster than I thought I could go, it’s a tasty 902 points in the nonathon Happy Christmas to you all.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
Well done Louise, a cracking PB .
After my last attempt I didn't try to trouble my PB but aimed to hold 1.49-1.50 pace. Pleased to report it worked although my stomach was slightly sore towards the end. Probably all the advanced stretching exercises* I've been doing over the past week . Anyway 18:10.5 @ 1.49.0 which equals 912 Nonathlon points and an adjusted time of 16:53.1.
*Also know as eating too much!

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020
Very strong row there Max, PB or not! At least you‘re within striking distance to your PB, whereas I am, well, that‘s a different story...
Had a last minute go tonight after two embarrassing attempts with 19:53.7 and 19:20.4 and I was hoping to get as close to the 19 minute barrier as possible. This is how it went:
I started off at last time‘s pace (1:56.0) and tried to pick up some speed from there. Happy with an improvement by 15 seconds although I would have loved to go sub 19 again.
