This month's challenge almost skipped my thoughts but I see there have been a few great efforts in there so far. Steeled myself for an all out go and targeted getting close to my all time PB for 1 minute of 317m. Went off like a blur and saw the predicted finish climb to 300, then 310, then 315, 316 then 317 where it wavered with 316 for what seemed an eternity. With 15 seconds to go I thought I had a good chance of matching it but then with 10~12 seconds to go, someone sneaked in and swapped all my blood and oxygen for glue and vacuum, everything went into slow motion and the last 3~4 strokes were spindly arms only - so ended up up 314m (actually my second best ever - but I only started doing 1 minute rows about 4 years ago and only do about 1 a year).

OK, so I had a pop today, and after a decent warm up achieved 332m (338).
Which is less than last year :?
I might have gone with the wrong drag, so I feel as though I need another attempt...

I have a similar feeling, Wolfie. Finished with 339 meters which is 15 less then last year. But at least I have a score now, now I can try to beat it without being scared not being able to finish.

Great scores guys =D> =D> I'll join the fun during the weekend but as it doesn't coincide with my current middle distance training I'm not expecting too much.

Well done everyone, lots of very impressive results. Unfortunately this month mine wasn't my best. 336m (adjusted 344m) which is 4m less than last year. At the start the erg was jumping around a lot and I never really recovered. Perhaps I'd set the drag too high at 180 but on the positive side I kept the pace (1:29.2) below 1:30.

Very nice result Max, I‘m sure in another go you would have beaten last year‘s row. As you said a lot of impressive results by Free Spirits for the January challenge. Unfortunately I wasn‘t very helpful this month  One minute isn‘t my favourite distance anyway, but with a sore lower back and a cold on top of that I could only post a very humble 275m.

But because of all those strong results of all of you we managed to climb to 6th spot in the overall table!

Well, I had my first 2000m bucket of fun three days ago with a time of 7:24.8. Because it was so much fun :^o I decided to go again last night:

Almost three seconds faster, but still eight seconds off my season's best. Nevertheless I'm fairly happy with that.

Team Free Spirits is still 6th in the overall ranking which is great because we started the IRL season in 7th position. As of now we have six results listed for February, so we'd need two more please :fswink:

Peter, Respect for having a second attempt!

A very poor effort from me but it's a result on the board. 7:03.1. That's the first time in over 2 years I haven't been able to go sub 7 :( . No power in my legs after digging up a garden path yesterday. Adjusted time of 6:32.0. Onwards and upwards next month.

I saw with some dread that this month's event is a 10k - a distance I can rarely get to these days. 20 mins (5k ish) or 30 mins are about where my body and brain go "enough" and I quit. However, I signed up for the team so managed on Sunday with about 5 complete stops to stagger to a rather pathetic 42:45.0 - but it put a score in for the team. I had another go last night and managed a slightly better 41:58.7 with around 3 complete stops and 2~3 slow downs but it was all I had in the tank. Admittedly I've had a royal dose of laryngitis for quite a few days so I'm not 100% fit so I may have another go later in the month to see if I can at least worry 41:00 minutes.

Hope your throat gets better soon.

I've just had a daft erg moment! Having not rowed this month due to a groin strain I did a HR restricted 10k on Tuesday. But on reading Dave's and Felton's comments this morning I suddenly remembered that 10k is this months IRL. So I've posted a time of 39:36.6 (average HR 130). I was planning on doing the same today but Felton's rate restricted sub 38 looks like a tempting challenge .

Very sorry for not posting a 2k in Feb gang
I meant to, just didn't.

So, feeling strongish today, I went for a sub 39 10k (after seeing Plummy's prompter).
Pleased to say it all went well.
1:56.6 all the way, R23
38:56.3

That felt good, so very impressed with Fred's quicker score =D>

I wish I hadn't tried Felton's rate restricted sub 38. Within the first 500m I was thinking this is going to be tough. And it was. Without the target I would have slowed down, a lot!

Thanks Dave for scoring two results and going sub 42 minutes. Good luck for going sub 41! :fswink:

Steve, you're in cracking form, I wish I could go sub 39! =D>

Great row there max, sub 38 is very strong! =D>

I had my first go March 7th with a rather appalling 41:17.7. The following day I tried again and was very happy with finally going sub 40 again:

This one felt much better from the beginning and there was even something left for a finish sprint. I might try again later in the month :fswink:

Really happy and a bit disappointed with this as it was 8.6 seconds quicker than a week ago but 2.7 seconds off my SB. Looks like I have to do it again...

I'm sure you'll make it, Peter. Also planned for a season's best today (which is about half a minute faster then the one I rowed earlier this week) but complety lacked the motivation.
