"From GARAGE ATHLETE for August: “Dog Days Double Double” 831m/rest 2 minutes 318m/rest 2 minutes 831m/rest 2 minutes 318m
First rep from a standing start. All other reps from a standing or rolling start (your choice).
Record your time for 2298 metres, not including the six minutes of rest".

Another interval piece, but decent training probably. I have no idea what the title means...

https://log.concept2.com/challenges/dog-days - I shall duck if necessary. Double double is taking longer for the grey cells to cotton on to.

Does look a reasonable session. May try this evening for testing purposes.

It looks pretty horrible to me! But then my least favourite distance is 1k. My guess is the double double refers to 2x831 and 2x318 but I've emailed Justin @garageathlete.

Interested in how this is falling between everybodys 500k and 1k pace.

Justin @garageathlete has replied in double quick time (sorry about the pun, couldn't resist it ). The double double refers to 2x831 and 2x318. The numbers reflect August as the 8th month and having 31 days.

August CTC attempt 1.

Paced the 831 from the 7x500m intervals yesterday (2.13.2) and the 318m was trying for something less than my best 500m time set last weekend (2.08.1). All around happy with that first attempt. Not too bad for a Saturday morning, I've earned my banana pancake today :D .

I assume it reflects the different date conventions used in the US and Europe. We use day-month-year, they use month-day-year. So 318 = 31st of August, 831 = August 31st.

Come on people, it's almost the middle of the month and I'm still in boat #1, that can't be right

I had my second go at this last night. My first attempt was a time of 8:24.1 (1:49.6) and I was hoping to better that:

Seems it worked, happy for now with an improvement by 8.7 seconds :fswink:

Take it from an Indiana boy - it's all true. Interestingly, the company I work at recently switched enterprise software vendors from Oracle to SAP. Oracle was traditional "American" date format. SAP is traditional "European" date format and there is no option (that I've found anyway) to change your preference. I literally have to stop for a second every time I come across a date field to make sure I'm interpreting the date correctly as it's just instinct/habit in my mind to have the month listed first. This is especially true when the first field is anything from 01 to 12 as you could imagine. Anything from 13 to 31 and I'm a smidgen swifter... :D

Got a first try in today: 7:44.4 at 1:41.0. Will post the rest of the details later. The second 831 is a real pain.

Cheers,
Colin

Great result Colin!
But what happened to your weight???
Looks like boat 1 will have 3 LWT and 1 HWT on the gents spots (Guy joining). Isn’t it supposed to be the opposite????

Nice 2nd attempt Peter, getting pretty close and pushing me to go for my 2nd attempt soon, but maybe I better wait for Max, Felton, Wolfie to use them as target instead of being one for them ;-)

Hi Tako, I'm a lightweight now (at least for the moment). I don't know how the ctc boats distribute the lightweights.

thinking about pacing ... just under current 2k pace perhaps?

My most recent 2k pace was 1:43.2 in mid April. Either I have gotten much faster since then or you should target a few seconds faster than your most recent 2k test.

Each boat seats 5 rowers. The seats can only be occupied by certain categories of rower, as follows:

Seats 1, 2 and 3 are OPEN. Anyone may occupy these seats.
Seat 4 is for LIGHTWEIGHTS. Any lightweight, male or female, may occupy this seat.
Seat 5 is for FEMALES. Any female, lightweight or heavyweight, may occupy this seat.

Colin, my comment was pointing at the fact that we seem to have incredibly strong LWTs in the team while we HWTs seem to be lacking some fitness/power, as in most other boats the HWTs are faster than the LWT, as on can also see from the individual ranking to the left of the boats. So I was addressing the results not the rules ;-)

There is a very small number (10) of rowers in the CTC this month and we are already half way through the month. Is it because of holiday season maybe? :?:

Yes, very few entries so far. Maybe vacation or maybe just waiting for Ian’s update of the leaderboard? Or simply waiting until last days to avoid being a target.

Well, after finally being on my target average again for the season I felt good enough to give it a second go. Really surprised how well it went. Managed to empty the tank completely.

Which is the fastest FS time for now, but with Guy still out there I am sure it will be beaten soon. Also Morten and Wolfie’s friends are still hiding in the bushes to jump out in front.....

It was all I had in the tanks and I am sure I won’t go faster than this. So Max&co go for it Image

Just back from a week in Switzerland helping celebrate my sister's 30th wedding anniversary. And I think I will need another week to recover!

Tako, Nice pacing and a great time. But it is so close to sub 1:40 I think you might not be able to resist another attempt .

I'm in. Still felt tired after a long weekend (and regatta), but could not keep putting it off...
15min warm up. Then went for the target of 2k -2 or 3
831 - 1:43.4
318 - 1:38.8 (easier to maintain this short term sprint)
831 - 1:43.1 (hard, but held on)
318 - 1:37.4 (counted 15 hard strokes, then sprinted home)
7:48.1 - 1:41.8 (the 318s help bring the split down a lot). Hard work, but it's now over :-)
