Hi everybody,

team Esprit have announced the July ctc:

"‘Lactic Leveller’
500m
R2:30
400m
R2:00
300m
R1:30
200m
R1:00
100m
Standing start for first. As you like for the rest."

Another pain fest it seems  The choice would have been DLC Gidea Park's but they decided to leave the ctc (does anyone know why?). Thank God Esprit took their place, otherwise it would have been the standard unrestricted 2k

I would have much preferred the standard 2k over this dreadful sprinty stuff!

Tako must have been involved because the new challenge is tailor made for him .

Hello,

after the sprinting is before the sprinting...well done all of you - especially those who decide to do last month challenge twice ^O^ - and yes Guy---awesome row =D> :!:

I opted for a early go this month - and it was painfull once again - come on one more entry and the first boat is floated !

the splits:

Me??? I had nothing to do with this and as you might have noticed Max, you were faster than me in June ;-)

But in June we all looked like snails compared to Guy’s great score!

After leaving it to the last possible day in June I decided to have an early go this time which was yesterday. Wasn't feeling great but thought "what the heck" and went for it:

Not a great score but hopefully some improvement coming later in the month.

Only just! But it got me thinking. Obviously I can't catch you on the Leaderboard (unless you miss a CTC) but on a head to head basis it's Tako 4, Max 3. Excluding April, the one I missed, its 3-3 and our average positions and pace per CTC this year are: you 105 and 1:44.35, me 103 and 1:44.28. So almost identical. If I add Felton it's Felton 2, Tako 2, Max 3 and Felton's average position is 109 and pace 1:44.32. Again, very close.

PS This is what happens when you have a summer cold and have not be able to row for a few days!

Well done to everyone who has had an early go.

Well that hurt! - 5:10.7 ( 1:43.5 average ). Just squeaked in ahead of Peter until he has a proper go.

Well done Dave! =D>

Had my second go last night which was better than attempt #1, but not good enough to catch Dave. Maybe doing them back to back was'nt the brightest idea...

First stab:
Image
I thought I'd be conservative with the 5 and 4 hundred, but ended up being a lot closer to all out than I would've predicted for a first attempt.

I was hoping for sub 5 minutes, and could see that's probably achievable by month end....

Had my first go at this, so now over to you Max & Felton :-)

Unfortunately my new Garmin HR monitor on the wrist struggled to catch the first intervals, while the breast belt connected to erg performed well (see above).

Hello,
Finnaly managed to sort out my working hours, so from now on it will be easier to squeeze some gym sessions during the week :)
First attempt this month, quite happy with the results.
Hopefully some improvement coming later :)

A great target to aim for and hopefully I'll be in shape to give it a go next weekend.

Max, I hope you are still on the road to recovery?

Had my third go at this last night with the aim of beating every rep from my last effort. Additionally I decided to attack the 500m a bit more. As I'm not a good sprinter the most effective way to gain time for me is on the longest interval. This is how it worked:

The first 500m already hurt (like expected), but 2:30 min of rest seem to be sufficient for (almost) full recovery. Personally I find the middle 300m especially hard, but once those are over it gets easier :D

So overall quite happy with an improvement by 5.5 seconds over last time's effort.

3rd go on the 9th of the month  =D> =D>
Another 5.5s is a really good effort Peter 8)

1st attempt for me.
Mental target was to see how long I could hold 1:38
500 - 1:37.3
400 - 1:37.0
300 - 1:34.5
200 - 1:32.5
100 - 1:34.0 somehow miss timed the start and it cost me
very happy, and paced well (above target obviously). Maybe a little more if needed.

After taking it very slow on the ERG I thought I should have at least one go on this month's ctc. It went better than expected, perhaps I could go a bit faster on the first 500 but since I'm going on holiday next saturday I don't think there's much room for a second one.

Round 2:

Pushed a bit more on the first two reps and clung on for dear life after that.....

Happy to you snuck under 5 minutes given the exertion of an hour TT earlier in the day.

Excellent results elsewhere ImageImageImage

I've never had any success at all with a wrist heart monitor on the erg. Just doesn't sem to get anything close to real heart rate. I have stuck with a chest belt for ages now.

That was hard going:

(I don't know what the logbook takes as the heart rate but the PM5 was showing a fair bit higher than that !)
