May CTC - 3 x 1k / 5 min rest

Post by Rodger »

BW Rowing announced their CTC choice for May: "3x1k 5min rest".

I take it that means 5 minutes in both rest intervals, 10 minutes rest total.
Tough workout, decent warm up required.

Place your bets!

Looking at the c2ctc forum thread, it is going to be described as 3x1k with 5 min rest between intervals. Unrestricted pace. Rolling starts for interval 2 and 3.

I seem to remember that this workout is sometimes used as a pace predictor for a 2k. Is that right?

Judging by my first attempt it's not too far from the truth!
3:39.4 - 1:49.7 (heartrate 159). Had the horrible suffocating feeling at the end of this one. Hoped it would ease and didn't go off as hard on rep2
3:41.8 - 1:50.9 (heartrate 163)
3:40.0 - 1:50.0 (heartrate 165)

11:01.2 total at 31spm average ( 1:50.2 overall average )

43Mm metres rowed. Re-setting the bar much lower now. Getting too old for this malarky

Did my first attempt today!

Initial goal was to take it easy, but that turned out to be difficult due to an inner urge to go faster after the first 1k

Image

My PB pace for the 2k is 1:43.4, so not sure what to expect for future attempts.

Actually wondering why so many wait with their entries until the last days of the C2CTC challenges. Afraid of becoming a target? Colin answered in an impressive way to last minute attempts to claim his lead/spot ImageImageImage

Nice rowing Tako and a lot of "rest" meters. Can't wait until I'm fit and can have a crack at this.

I can barely hear your post over the sound of that gauntlet being thrown down. Great row Dave.
----------

First attempt.

This served to prove that my 2km pace is soft (which deep down I knew), and confirm that I won't relish future attempts to improve.

First rep was probably a smidge too quick, caught breath in the second and tried to make up lost ground in the third.

I see you have picked up said "thrown at your feet gauntlet", picked it up and slapped me across the face with it! Touche sir, nice response. =D>

Had my first go at this last night and ended up with an annoyingly slow pace of 1:52.3

First speed work in quite a while and the first rep felt awful, but at least it got better through the session.

Steve, I'm afraid I can't provide you with a proper target this month...

Thanks for the shout-out, Tako! I am laying off fast stuff for a week or so and doing low intensity long pieces. Will give this a crack next week. You've set a good target for me as usual! Lots of other good early efforts here as well!

Cheers,
Colin

10.9 seconds quicker than last time, which is still not great, but at least things are pointing in the right direction.

I just gave this a go. I was trying to put some distance between myself and Tako and almost bit off more than I could chew, slowing considerably in the last interval, but good enough for position 1 in boat 1 for now. My overall pace was 1:42.8, a bit faster than my 2k personal best of 1:43.2 from last month. Last interval shown in graph below.

Cheers,
Colin

Well done Colin! I'm happy I finally went sub 11 last night and you're close to going sub 10! I know Tako loves challenges and this will keep him entertained for a while :D What's that BoatCoach software by the way?

Had my third go last night with the simple plan of beating last time's pace in every intervall. I managed to do that by over a second which I'm very pleased with. Hope to find some more time in my next attempt though.

Not been training my sustainable red-line 1k/2k pace recently so didn't want go to out too fast in the first couple of intervals. Nice to know that the afterburners are still working though (final 100m of final rep). Might squeeze a bit more out if I get chance for a second go but I suspect that Tako has far more in the tank than will be needed to put me in my place !

oh, sausage and poopy things!!
Good - aimed for 1:45 (as it's supposed to be a good 2k predictor)
Bad - completely mistimed the rolling start on the 3rd rep and saw ave 4:29.3! Dragged it back, but it didn't show 1:45 until after nearly 500 gone.
Very bad, missed Ben by 0.1s
10:27.8
1:44.9/44.5/44.5
ave 1:44.6
(edit, sorry forgot to say that it's great seeing Matt post a score again  )
