Have you ever rowed (in a boat on water)?
Just wondering...
I rowed at University of Nottingham (1986-1989) and Thames Rowing Club (1992-1993). I would be rated Senior One now I think (6 wins).
Just wondering if this gives an advantage in the times (techinque?).

No idea if it gives an advantage. Might potentially do the opposite I guess as 'on water' rowers get coached out of those habits which wreck boat momentum, but which don't matter on an ergoThomas W-P wrote:

I have rowed on-water (college level only), and got back in a boat again recently - loved it!
48yo, weight... let's just say heavyweight & leave it at that.

Targets: start erging again & lose weight

God. I would love to get back in a boat. Just think I would break it at 19.5 stone!JanetS wrote: got back in a boat again recently - loved it!

Get out there & do it! I admit that getting away from the kids for a while is a major draw for meThomas W-P wrote:God. I would love to get back in a boat. Just think I would break it at 19.5 stone!JanetS wrote: got back in a boat again recently - loved it!

I have rowed on water, but just for one season when I was at school.
Some friends of mine invited me to join them rowing on the River Dee with folk from the Aberdeen University Boating Club.
Most of the other rowers were quite a bit older and after a while we stopped going.
I didn't even stay long enough to have any proper races.

Me too!!
Yes, I've often wondered what the real thing is like - spent months following elder son round school regattas - then when he was in France studying, he rowed all oer France and Germany - and in a competition on the lake at Versailles. Constantly green with envy.
But fear though 6'-4" frame might be useful, my boat breaking capability might be on a par with Thomas!!

Syracuse University, 1986-1990. Stroke and #2 in a Four With. 36 wins, 3 losses, (Navy, all three times! B@stards!) 2 national championships in '87 and 88' Completely quit after college. No local rowing club up here in Maine, and couldn't stomach the thought of getting back on an erg. Slowly saw my weight climb from 190lbs to 240 in December of 2005. Started rowing again, back down to 210, but nowhere near the performance level of 20 years ago. I must be an old fart?

Gunslinger, as I was at University 1966-1972, if you're an Old Fart, what the hell does that make megunslinger_ wrote:Syracuse University, 1986-1990. I must be an old fart?
