March ctc - 666/333/666/333/666/333/666/333 - 10' 30" total rest
Hi all,
team FIRT have set the ctc for March:
"French waves"
row 666-333-666-333-666-333-666-333m with a total rest time of 10 minutes 30 seconds to spread as you want.
no restriction except for the first start that must be a standing one.
Enter the time for these 3996 total meters, without rest periods"
That's an interesting one, although a bit too sprinty for my liking.

Thought I'd get in an early attempt. Just did the obvious 90 seconds rest and as expected the 666's are fairly evil

Felton, respect for being brave enough to go first and you've set the bar pretty high! On paper this looks a bit similar to last July's CTC which was truly horrible. 555m, 111m, 444m, 777m, 333m, 222m, 666m (3,108m) with 1:10 rests . This month's is longer with more rest. Did it feel similar? And do you think allowing more of the rest before or after the 666s would help? Thanks.

Max, don't really remember how last July's CTC felt but had a look back at the results and you were very fast
I estimated before I set off that this would be around 1:42 for me and despite some wobbles that was actually pretty accurate. That makes this a wee bit faster than current 2k pace, probably.
As for how to divide up the rest period, I honestly have no idea. My thinking during the piece was all about how to 'survive' the 666's. The 333's are not that bad and I could maybe have gone faster on the first two. I will be interested in how others approach this challenge

Thanks Felton. I was thinking of allowing 2 mins before the 666s. But then realised it's also a bit like the classic 8 x 500m r1m but with 1:30 rest. Decisions, decisions! The only thing I am sure of is that I would rather not do it twice!

No way I am going to this one more than once....
Too tough for me.

Thanks!! I owe Felton though for the great target.
Was fighting each interval to stay below his average
Those 666m are horrible, hence I think my resting schedule of increased time after 666m really helped at the end.

I think you should reconsider this being your only attempt though. This challenge suits you and I'll do my best to provide you with another tempting target

Damn, just realised that I did not read the instructions properly as it is 10min and 30sec Rest and not only 10min as I wrote above!
So prior to the last 666m I should add 30sec more for resting. That could give some improvement if needed

Re: March ctc - 666/333/666/333/666/333/666/333 - 10' 30" total rest
Had my first go at this and judging by previous months, probably my last as well. I've been bailing on rows left right and centre recently and anything above 20~30 mins is likely to end up in a big old HD so this was actually a bit of a refreshing change having lovely little rests of my choosing every couple of minutes.
I reckon I pitched the pace about bang on for my capability as the last 333 was blessed relief to get it over and done with.
Hardly worrying the top end of the table but another CTC in the "total done for the team" bag - time of 14:38.9 ( average of 1:49.9 and 31spm)
7 hours later and I can still feel this one in my lower back!

This weekend I picked up the handle bar again, after half a year without rowing, due to health issues followed by demotivation. It was pretty tough to hold even a pace of 2:20.
I'm planning to row this CTC at the end of the month. I'm only announcing this so it might be harder to bail out during the month.

Welcome back Roger, I hope you will be able to row a satisfiable time later this month.
Personally due to physical drawbacks I hadn't rowed for about half a month. Thought the March Madness was a good reason to start again, carefully. And after a few madness days decided to try the CTC. Which was hard, still lacking some power in my legs, but managed to finish, which was my goal today. My time was 14:12.5, and hopefully later this month I will be able to go a bit faster. Last month that didn't work unfortunately, hopefully this month will be better.

Well done to everyone who has had an early go at this one. After some thought I decided to mentally treat it like the 10x500 1mr interval sessions I do for pre-competition training but with less intervals and more rest .
The aim was to go hard but steady on the 666s and fast start the 333s with even rest. Overall it worked pretty well with 13:27.0 @1:40.9. Legs started to go wobbly on the last 666 so had to ease off a little and the last 333 was mostly pain.

Hello - congrats all finishers ...this challenge is more tough than i thougt...first go was tuesday...i was a bit lightheaded and it ended in a HDing
I compared to PetePlans 8x 500m- but there is 3:30m rest - much more !
Today a second go...all went according to my plan - despite intervall 7 - the last 666m - i had to back off - and so my plan was ruined to hold a sub 1:40 overall pace...
i wish you all good luck !

Very well done to all the FS rowers in the challenge so far.
This was the first "sprint" set I'd completed after my side strain, so in much the same vein as Dave (hope your injury is not lingering too much) this was much more measured than I would have liked.
14.33.2 (29spm; 1.49.2).
I'd like to think I could get a bit more, but I don't think there's enough of the month left.

Go Lightweights!! Nice one Ian.
My side strain is OK but there's something else going on that I can't fathom. I seem to run out of air, lungs and heartrate at about 150bpm at the moment and as a result I'm bailing on everything very early, like 10~20 minutes at any sort of pace and I can't continue - so HD.
