Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
As expected absolutely not my cup of tea. Lacking the Ergdata app decided to take a stroke every three seconds. Excuses: first attempt, suffering from pain in my lower back so I rowed with a lower DF then normal, my son came in asking where something was of which I didn't have a clue...
Managed to scrape out 4925 meters. Now I have to wait how my back reacts. Should be possible to get a little better (the last 4 min pace was slightly below 2:00) but I don't expect any miracles to happen.
Not looking forward yet to the IRL either feeling the way I feel now.
Great respexct for the achievements so far...

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Today a better result. Though not yet painfree I was abler to row with my normal DF. Even felt some sort of rhythm now and then so I could focus on the power a bit more.
More then 5K now, 5077.

Well done Fred
Second attempt with df at 158. Very hard work, but a little improvement (and 399 strokes).

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
In 2 years of rowing I've never noticed that . During my warm up yesterday I checked and it does the same on a PM5. Strange that it doesn't take a weighted average.Iain wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 5:05 pm Not sure about the PM5, but the PM3 definitely uses an unweighted average of the ratings of the splits. So vary easy to get an advantage on this one. If you entered splits of 19' and rowed R10 for the last minute, you could row R31 for the first 19' and it would still show R20.
Well done to everyone who has already posted a distance!

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Happy New Year all. What a strange event this one is turning out to be. Some great results have been posted already.
I really wasn't looking forward to this one. I thought the pace would feel very odd compared to my normal rows, and I just don;t have the size and scale to power through every stroke to produce results even close to some of those posted here. It turned out to be a completely different experience to the one I expected.
I actually found the pace quite easy to get into, I used ergdata to help and then just counted to three as I went through each stroke as a rough guide. After the first couple of minutes I was in a real rythm, and according to ergdata I got exactly 20 strokes in every single minute of the row. So, that bit was certainly not what I expected.
I also didn't expect my HR to rise all that much, but it steadily crept up and up and by the end of the row I was at 180 bpm against an HR max of 190. Much higher than I thought.
The one bit that did turn out was the fatigue in my legs at the end.
Anyway, my only personal goal was to encourage Plumy to do this again by beating his distance. I managed that with a 4918. I now you will pass that soon Plummy given you seem to have attempted all events on offer this month in a single row. Best of luck

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Had a go yesterday...and due to my ultrastructurel muscle injury of the right lower arm a also spent like Jon more time with zwift...did some stress tests like the 1 min IRL row which didn't worsen the situation. Felt acceptable right now so I guess it is time to reswitch to indoor rowing as my main sports. At the moment I really like the word of zwift...I've been a bit infected by it. This rate restriction is not something for me...But during the workout enjoyed it also and asked myself why I didn't do it frequently. Managed exactly 400 strokes...the distance isn't the best I could...but happy to dip under 75kg...was 76.5 after Christmas! Great rows Felton and Tako...aiming for boat 2 this month...as it is clearly that Guy will have much more meters than me!

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Claudius, Well done on losing the Christmas kilos so quickly. Wish I could say the same!
Playing around with the HR belt I was doing 20 minute intervals and then wondered if a 20/R20 5000m was possible at an average UT2 HR (for me 135 bpm). On my first attempt yesterday I tried a steady approach but fell short. For the 2nd go today I started slowly then increased the pace. Result 5,004m, 400 strokes and average HR 133 bpm . I realise it's not a UT2 session as HR ended at 151 bpm but interesting that I could keep the average down. It'll be a week or so before I try to catch Tako and Felton .

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Thanks, Max. As you can tell from the splits, fatigue was definitely a factor. My normal row pace is 2:30 to 2:35, so a 2:22 pace for 20 minutes was definitely a struggle, but I barely made my 4200 goal.

Yesterday I tried to match Tako's pace and failed miserably, HDing half way through. Respect, that is one awesome distance and there is zero chance I'll get close . Suspect Felton is also safe but will try again in a few days.

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Finally taken care of both the Christmas kgs & the Christmas lurgy so had a go. I always struggle to hold a R20 pace that seems to relate to my free rate paces when I compare what others can do so I wasn't expecting to challenge any of the excellent times already posted. I also hurt my ribs last Jan which I mostly blamed on a 30R20. That cost me a couple of months training so I've not really done any R20 since & I was very careful not to go absolutely full gas on every stroke. All in all, not disappointed with that at all.

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Excellent Guy
Personally I really wanted to finish this challenge again after a couple of failed attempts due to starting too fast. A bit more careful today and ended up just behind the Smith's. 2 meters behind Greg, 8 behind Steve.
Perhaps I'll give it another shot, being in the last H seat in FS II and Morten still to come of course. Trying to cling on to that boat... So Greg, Steve, watch out

Well done Guy and Fred!
A little last days remaining encouragement. We're two short of floating boat 6, and there are a couple of waffer thin gaps to be tested

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
Thought I would start the weekend with another attempt, this time aiming for Felton's distance of 5,295. Started at a more sensible pace of c1:54 and increased the power in the last few minutes. Overall just made it with 5,302m and pleased with that. 3 weeks off plus 3 weeks UT2 is not good preparation for the power needed for this one! Apologies Felton, assuming Morten posts a time, you'll need to go again. Although I suspect you have more in the tank.

Today I rowed at a time more suitable for me. Managed 5173 meters with which I'm very satisfied. I think this will be the last one for this month.

Re: January 19 CTC - 20/R20
I wasn't going to have another go at this as I have 2 races in the next 2 weekends but I noticed that a certain Mr JonT was ahead of me in the rankings and we can't be having that! . Although I didn't think I would get ahead of him I thought I could maybe close the gap.
Turned out a bit better and managed to squeeze another 103m in total getting me to 4930m and 20spm (was 4827m) on the nail in each split (4 mins). I took a photo for evidence as well.

Fred, congratulations on the multiple attempts, it paid off!
I had a go to try and match you tonight ...ended up just short
5169 @ 1:56.1
I was 1:55.5 after 10min, but alas tailed away.
Hope Peter's ok this month?
