I thought I might give it a shot. Being the 1st of April, with lots of month to come, I started out really fast, and didn't succeed. Hd'd (yes, I know what it means now) and gave the CTC a try. HD'd there as well.
Not being very pleased with this I decided to have another go on the 500. Started a bit more careful now and seeing an ETA of 1:32 (my SB is 1:32.7) kept me going though it was painful in the end. Missed my SB by 2 tenths of a second but I was 4 tenths of a second faster then last years IRL.
Who knows, maybe a SB is possible later this month.

Time flies! Already the last challenge of the season

Impressive start of the final month Fred, well done =D> , and I am sure you have more to come, considering your attempts ending in HD prior to the one you entered.

Also =D> applause =D> for Peter for the impressive composing of the teams.
It really is a more interesting challenge with two teams, and especially when they are that close, well done! ^O^

Hopefully I will be fully fit again later this month to put some pressure on Team Guy, so you do not feel too comfy being in the lead

Just noticed that we only had 7 entries in the last two months (February and March), hopefully we will be back to 8 for April.

After the C2CTC I thought I give the IRL another try but really struggled after 200m and somehow managed to finish a couple of seconds slower than Fred at 1:34.7

strong efforts so far for this last 500m...had a go on tuesday...was a bit annoyed about several "things"- so just grabbed the handle....and thought: this is a sprint- isnt it ? so you do a fly and die...to make the trouble air...and exactly so was the result....

Despite setting a new HR Max of 192 8-[ I still only managed 1:45.3 which is way off my SB and PB. Then again, I did do it straight after the c2ctc 1,500m #-o

I would have another go, but will me heart stand up to it?? [-o<

Hello...when the batteries is getting weak of the heartstrapp I usually get artefacts...so like in my today's 2nd go...do you know your HR max ? Sometimes i got readings like 240...but 192 could still be realistic...here my 2nd attempt

Nice row Claudius. Better than the last in more ways than one

JT, watch that ticker mate

Got my effort in today, after a glorious outing on the river this morning.
Was hoping for @1:35, expecting 1:35-40.
Very happy with 1:32.2

My HR Max has been creeping up over the last couple of years (186-188-189) either because I am getting older, or fitter, or just madder! Technically HR Max would naturally drop as I age, so it isn't that. 192 is completely feasible, but a bit of a jump from the previous 189. I'm not proud of this, if I had seen it I would have backed off, but I was so focused on getting through the pain of the 500 that I wasn't keeping an eye on readings. I wouldn't mind if I had got a reasonable time, but I was 4 seconds off SB after all of that. #-o

An interesting thing is the huge difference between cycling (which I am doing a lot of) and rowing (which I am doing far less of). When I am doing focused training sessions on the bike turbo trainer, it feels like I am putting myself under stress, but the HR never goes much above 175 - my legs are screaming, not my heart. On the rower the HR soars as soon as I put real effort in.

I would say that is happening because rowing is a more all-body exercise than cycling - more muscle groups engaged, and consequently more oxygen required - your average pro cyclist has just about zero upper body muscle.

Saturday I'm going away for a week, so I wanted to give this one a try before that. Afterwards it might be a bit more difficult. Managed a SB, so I'm pretty happy with it.
1:31.8, and glad it was over of course. Especially my upper legs were...

Very short of time today and had tired legs from yesterday so decided I ought to try and get another go in for this as it is "only" 500m. Improved from 1:46.0 (admittedly no my best work) to 1:39.4. The last 150 were pretty horrible.

Team Guy.

Nice improvement Plummy - on tired legs too. Great work.

Been feeling pretty rough for a few days. Some sort of virus I guess which makes me wake up with what feels like a hangover. Given that I don't drink alcohol anymore I feel this is most unfair ! Not sure if I'll get another shot now, will probably depend on whether or not I regret this one later.

Anyhow. If you're going to fly & die, at least pace it with style ... ;)

Captain Philip, Sorry to report I've overdone the gardening recently and am currently struggling to walk due to quadriceps tendonitis. Hoping for an overnight (northern hemisphere) miracle [-o<.

Got this in last minute and although I wasn’t really looking forward to it, it went a lot better than I was expecting Image With better fitness levels there's a half decent 500m time somewhere in there

Well done to everybody for getting to the end of the season

Feeling rather better than I have done for a few days. Not great but good enough that Sundays attempt on the IRL was starting to bug me.

Had to fit this & a CTC into lunchtime so I chose to do this first as I wasn't sure I'd fancy anything else after the 1500. Pleased with the result. Partly because it's my second fastest 500 ever, a shade faster than I was managing in races last year (though probably slower in reality when you take into account the race start), but mainly because that must be the best paced 500 I've ever managed. You can see a small rate spike with 100 to go where I threw the kitchen sink at it (to precisely zero effect !) but overall I don't think I've ever done a fast 500 so flat
