He he, thanks for the inspiration FSP Team mate.
Without any regular rowing these days I just went bananas and did the same; I.e. rowing the 6344 faster than 6k Pb pace (from June) :-)

Felton, great to see you steaming again Image

Even with age advantage and PB pace I am not even close!

5 Nonathlon points :-)

23:31.7 @1:51.2

Felton, you're rowing out of your skin at the moment, looking good for the Scottish!

Tako, very nice row there, I wish I could go anywhere near that!

I had my first go at the November distance yesterday with Steve's pace (1:57.1) in mind as a target. Plan was to start out at 1:57 for the first half and then see if I could speed up. This is how it went:

To my surprise a 1:57 pace felt too comfortable (sorry Steve :D ) and I decided to go faster much earlier than planned. I could hold a 1:55/1:56 pace throughout most of the row with something left for a sprint finish and a finishing time of 24:26.1 (which also earned my three nonathlon points). It was hard work but I kind of enjoyed it. Now that the otw season is over for me I'm planning to do more erging and have another go at this soon (I'm 23 seconds slower than last year, can't leave it like that  :fswink: ).

Over to you Steve 8)

Set out to at least match my 6km pace given the exceptional efforts above, and actually dipped under my 5km pace. Really felt awful, so that might be it for the month....

Well done everyone who's using this month to nail a fast 6k on the way as if it was no big deal !! Let alone Ian with a 5k pace - great work ! No such fireworks from me. With 2k, 1k & 500m races in the next few weeks I've shunned anything close to this long (apart from recovery paced rows) in favour of sharpening. Also, I wanted to be careful where I put this in the month so that it fitted in with my pre-race training so tonight was the night.

Plan was to find a stable cruise for the first 6k & then light the afterburners for a bit of fun. Probably could have pushed the cruise pace down a bit in retrospect but lack of recent experience at this sort of distance kept me cautious. Unlikely I'll get another shot this month so this'll have to do.

Great rows here. I tried as well to improve my time but didn’t succeed unfortunately. I think there Will be some improvement later this month.
For now I see team Guy is in the lead this month. Seven entries so far but plenty of time for the eighth one to finish. Good luck everyone, also the other team offcourse .

Team Guy,

Hello, after seeing those great results here, with some faster than 6k pb...i wanted to join the group...it went well, after doing not so much rowing the past 8 days i had recovered almost good...but still a small bizeps strain: it must have been those tree cutting...of course not the ctc sprints

have a good row for those who still have to go or wanted a 2nd go !

Yes, great Claudius. I also scored some extra points for the team. Managed to go 9.5 seconds faster than last time. Hopefully I'll make just about that much progress later on this month to go sub 24. I don't know, perhaps it will be possible. Last year I managed 23:53, I don't think I will be that fast this time.
Quite a flat schedule (is that correct english???) after starting a bit too fast a couple of times.

Have fun everyone, still plenty of time to enjoy yourselves with this month's distance ...

FSG:

it seems team Guy has been on fire the last week.

Ian, to row this peace at 5k pace is great stuff, well done! You do know that you have to do a 5k TT in the near future, don't you? :D

Claudius, that was a very comitted row, started fast and didn't give in towards the end. Very flat pacing which of course is the fastest way of rowing, but you need to be sure what you're capable of at the beginning and then keep at it during the row. It takes a lot of mental strength to do that, so well done!

Guy, that was some seriously fast "cruising" there, well done!

Fred, I had the slight hope of beating your previous time of 24:18.8 or at least getting close to it, but now you have set the bar even higher, well done!

I had another go at this yesterday with Fred's old time of 24:18.8 in mind. My previous time was 24:26.1, so I had to find another 8 seconds. This is how it went:

Really happy with my time of 24:18.6 and in retrospective I could have started a bit faster. My pace of 1:54.9 is actually 0.1 seconds quicker than my 5k SB pace and it earned my 5 nonathlon points for the 6k and one point for the 5k :D

Fred, I beat your old time by 0.2 seconds, but in the meantime you have set a new target of 24:09.3 which is out of reach for me I'm afraid.

If I understand the scoring properly, we are current ranked #1 for this months event, scoring 100 points. Great work folks, of course there is still a lot of the month to go for others to catch up, but still a great effort.

Some inspirational efforts going on here and even though I'm not loving the erg at the moment as I've lost all my stamina I felt I could maybe squeeze a few seconds off my previous effort (25:25.9). Set off and for 4k I felt I had a good chance of a decent time (and even 24:5x.x flashed up as a predicted finish once or twice) but as per usual, my stamina failed and I had to back off. Fortunately, having a few seconds "in the bank" allowed me a couple of slow downs to get into the last 500 and I managed a 1:54.4 last 344m.
Took a round 17.0 seconds off so now down to 25:08.9 - 27/28 spm

Sorry to hear you are a bit down in the erg dumps Plummy. But still, a seventeen seconds improvement isn't to be sniffed at.

So I did ....
Set off to keep a consistent 1:57 pace throughout.
Which is the way it ended up really. Cruised at 1:56.7 ave, but it got tough in the final 3rd and slowed a little.
Final quick 300 brought it down again to 56.7.
24:41.3 for an extra 7.7s
puts team Guy 2nd for Nov (or already was, can't quite sort the tables properly  )
