Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
Hi everyone,
like the four seasons before there will be the Indoor Rowers League running from September to April next year: http://indoorrowers.org/indoor-rowers-league.
The indoor rowers league's schedule is like last season's:
September - 4 minutes
October - 1 mile
November - 6344m
December - 5000m
January - 1 minute
February - 2000m
March - 10000m
April - 500m
Like in the past seasons there will also be a team competition ("8 on 8 team competition"). One team consists of a maximum of 10 members, the eight best results of every round count towards the team result. The teams are defined by the end of September, if you aren't registered with Free Spirits as your team affiliation by then you can't be member of the team!
This is to remind/encourage Free Spirits to register for this challenge (if they haven't already)

I’d like to enter, but I thought there were a crowd of regulars. I don’t want to barge in and end up pushing someone else out, or have I misunderstood how this works?

I would like to skip this year, but if the team need more rowers I would be in.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
As I understand it everybody can take part individually but teams are made up of 10 people with 8 scoring each month. Maybe we could register interest on this thread and then make a team (or even teams ) from this. I have enjoyed taking part in the team competition and would gladly do so again but would have no problem sitting out so that someone else could take part

Ian - if you want to take my LWT place (not that I think there is a restriction on LWT entrants. I think the LWT points are generous for the team) ...you are welcome to take it. I'll step in if we are short of a complement of 10.

Is there any chance we could drum up enough interest for two teams? It could be fun to have two balanced groups battling against each other

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
Great idea, as competing against the other teams is somewhat boring.Caratacus wrote:Is there any chance we could drum up enough interest for two teams? It could be fun to have two balanced groups battling against each other
If we make two equally big teams it also is not really necessary to have 8-10 per team, as we compete against each other
I will join wherever needed/possible.
My scores as a HWT in the 40-49 group seems to get the highest handicaps so for FS it would be better to have more LWT, women and older people if competing against other clubs. Internally we just need to distribute equally.

Happy to take part, but I am unlikely to score much. Any idea how the Lwt works as may not be down to weight for September.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
Hi all,
thanks for the responds and the huge interest so far. As for the 8 on 8 team, I've made a list of who was in last season and who showed interest so far to join this season:
____________________2017/2018____________2018/2019
Alan (strider77)__________yes_________________?
Peter (Grobi)____________yes_________________yes
David (plummy)__________yes_________________yes
Ralf (RdgkA)_____________yes_________________maybe
Felton (Caratacus)________yes_________________yes
Paul (paulgould)__________yes_________________yes
Tako (Tako)______________yes_________________yes
Barbara (CamiCrew)_______yes_________________?
Fred (fkoene)____________yes__________________yes
Chuck (calalli)___________yes__________________?
Jon (JonT)___________________________________yes
Ian (IanBee)__________________________________yes
Max (MaxMacLaren1)__________________________yes
Steve (Wolfmiester)___________________________yes
Iain (Iain)____________________________________yes
Philip Price (Pepe)____________________________yes
So as of now we have ten people willing to join this season and four of last season's attendees haven't replied yet. Let's keep this list updated and see if we can establish two teams this season. But remember, we need ten people per team.

Iain, you have time until the end of September to achieve lwt status. After that weight (and gender ) cannot be changed anymore. Quote from the Indoor Rowers League rules: "When registering to the competition it is mandatory to select your gender, age and weight category. Your selection in those 3 categories can not be changed anymore after the end of the 1st month challenge, this will be the 1st of October 2015 at GMT noon."

When there's enough room I would like to join again (to fill two boats for instance), but I have no problem with skipping it a year. It's kind of busy nowadays with rowing otw as well twice a week.

If we manage to collect 16 participants it would be great to have two teams of 8. Would that be possible/allowed Peter?

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
Thanks Fred, I've updated the table. Will you be rowing otw in winter as well? I have the same "problem" like you at the moment, but when winter comes it's erg time again for me
That's allowed Tako, but it would increase the pressure on these eight people because they would need to do every round of the challenge.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
As far as I can see 26 people have completed at least 7 out of the 8 CTC challenges so far this year so there is at least good potential to recruit two teams for the IRL

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
Thanks Peter, I guess I will enter as a Lwt as an incentive to stay off the pies! Just one more reason that I might not be able to do some of the challenges, so given my current slow times and uncertainty, I should be put with either the team with the least likely to have people missing some challenges, or the least competitive if we have a notional A team.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2018 / 2019
Not really an instruction, but to keep the ball rolling: as of now we have 11 "yes", 2 "maybe" and 3 "?". Only if the three "?" would agree to take part (I'm going to contact them via PM) we'd have 16 members for two teams. If we can do that, the question is how to build the teams:
1) start with the ones that already committed (minus 1) and then fill up a second team
2) have one "competitive" team and one "just for the fun of it" team
3) have two presumably equal teams performance wise
Other suggestions?
We could start with 1) right away, for 2) and 3) we'd need at least three more attendees.
Right now there's no rush, we have until the end of September to decide.

I would really love option 3 if possible. We're not going to be competitive versus the top teams but it could be much more fun and interesting to have two competitive teams.
