I would like to welcome (and thank) Amber Pierce and Jess Milborne to the CTC on behalf of Free Spirits with stellar efforts. They won't be able to row for us on every challenge as it has to suit their OTW training - but the 6 x 1 was a very good fit for them.
Please join me in appreciating their first efforts for the team

Yeah, just saw those great contributions pushing the boats higher up the ranks as well! Thanks to both!! Now we have the unusual situation that Roger is joined by 3 ladies in boat VI! Maybe it will be 4 when Barbara enters her effort

Nice effort Ralf!
Looking at the last interval I guess you could have started a bit faster. Maybe have another go ?!

thanks ladies , and welcome (where from?)
Nice effort Ralf , I'm still trying to break the 1800 but that's just a little too far for me.

Turns out my step-mother-in law's grand daughter rows for her university and had no idea of the existence of virtual teams. We met at a recent family party (step mother in law's 80th) and she was so happy to find someone else who could talk about rowing for hours!!
I told her all about the team and the CTC and said she'd do any that her training allowed and surprisingly got her friend to put in a time for us too! I might even be getting he mum to row for us as she's pretty competitive as well. They are Isle of Wight based like our new man Swinny.

Cool, I have been chatting with Paul (hopefully getting together this weekend) and he mentioned these CTC's. I will do them as well and will set myself up on it this weekend. We could have a nice little group of virtual rowers on the island at this rate. I put a shout out on Strava for more rowers among my old cycling friends but no one does it.

I'm so glad to welcome the new girls - It was getting a bit silly that my time (middle aged, unfit, asthmatic) was keeping me in boat 1! The new faster times are much more in keeping with the rest of the crews in B1 and B2.

You're like me Jane - feeling the effects of age a little. These young upstarts have all the advantages and don't need three days of lying down in a darkened room with tea and biscuits after an all out erg session.

Yum - tea and biccies! Or perhaps a slice of cake? Choices, choices...
At least there's no pressure now (not that I was feeling too much anyways!!!)

Lots of great efforts!
I'm following a very structured and rigorous crossfit training plan that includes very little rowing. In the best shape of my life and doing things I never imagined doing at almost 49 but a bit specific rowing fitness has definitely been lost in the process.

Re: August ctc - 6 x 1' / 1'r, rolling starts except #1
Loving the enthusiasm on this one - great work all. This is probably a textbook example of how not to pace this one ! I put the drag up to ~ 130 (I usually use ~ 103 for everything) & it really felt tough by the end. I also completely messed up a rolling start on #6 & should have been good for another 1:33.? pace I think.
I'm not going to post this one on the CTC site just yet as I'm not quite back at lwt yet (following 2 weeks of mouse related Florida family fun ) but I should be good to post a lwt result next week, hopefully with a less ridiculous 1st interval leading to a more evenly paced effort ! Worst case scenario, I'll still have this to post as a hwt before the end of the month.

That is awesome! But I really hope the diet goes well or else I have no hope of boat 2. HD'd today after interval 4 . Maybe one more attempt before the end of play.GuidonTheBee wrote: βFri Aug 24, 2018 2:18 pm Worst case scenario, I'll still have this to post as a hwt before the end of the month.

Re: August ctc - 6 x 1' / 1'r, rolling starts except #1
Excited to see new female entries. Tell em thanks Dave! And nicely done to the regulars as well!
I did a typical klutz maneuver 2 weeks ago and fell of a curb 3 days before leaving for an OTW race event. Luckily no broken bones, just bruises and an "avulsion fracture" on the right side of my right foot. With an orthopedic Dr's OK, I went ahead and raced not to mention 4-5 days of getting around the race venue. Maybe not the wisest choice, but will find out at a follow up ortho appt on Tuesday.
Meanwhile I'll put in a ctc score and see if I'm up for another before the month changes to - wow - September!
Cheers

Great to see your post Barbara as I have to admit that I have been wondering about how you were doing when I saw the news about the wildest fires in CA.
Hope you will recover well from you injury, and good luck with your second attempt!

Re: August ctc - 6 x 1' / 1'r, rolling starts except #1
Thanks for your effort Barbara, despite that nasty injury. Get well soon and yes, it's almost September Christmas presents bought and wrapped?
I have been avoiding the erg recently due to the ridiculously hot weather here with ambient temperature over 35 centigrades. Instead I took advantage of the summer weather and went rowing otw or mountain hiking. But as August is coming to an end it was high time to put in at least a score, which I did last week and of course was a shame compared to the brilliant efforts posted by Free Spirits here and on the ctc page:
Wasn't sure at all how to pace this one so thought a 1:45 pace should be ok. It turned that there was a bit left towards the end but I still ended up 66m behind Wolfie and 16m behind Dave Will try to do better in the next couple of days.

Re: August ctc - 6 x 1' / 1'r, rolling starts except #1
great results posted ! And it is the end of the month when the thing gets more and more excited...but not for me...tried it right now...and HDing in the 1st stroke of the last rep ...so Max and Tako the water is open to pass by...or do have someone better words ? It is the first intervall session since my first go...next weeks a restart with the peteplan !
βDo you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?β

Tako, Happy with boat 2 and I should really get back to PP sessions. So no plans to have another go. That will only change if Guy posts his hwt time.

lwt
Doesn't get any easier does it ?! First rep was easy(ish), had an ergistential crisis in #4 & couldn't feel my legs by the end. 5 metres further than my hwt score but I felt every one of them.
Well done everyone who has done this one, it's pretty tough !
