June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Hi all,
MAD team have determined the June ctc: a simple 10k, no stroke rate restrictions.
In terms of pacing I'd recommend current 10k pace

A toughie for those of us trying to gain some level of fitness back.
But then again, a toughie for those of you with a good level of fitness looking for a good time
However, all in all, a nice change from all the intervals.
Looking forward to it

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
I managed to squeeze in a 10k today at 43:00.2 (For the last 3k I went OCD aiming for 43:00.0).
Nothing special, and I can't post because the old event is still live. Eye-wateringly short of my PB from 3 years ago by a massive 3:06
I have more time available now, so this is a good target for me for the end of the month. Meanhwile I set the seasons target and gained some Nonathlon points - this must be amber/red in the metanonathlon though

Had my first crack at this today - a bit too hot for this kind of thing but went OK. Had a bit of a wobble between 6 - 8k but didn't lose too much time. Hopefully will get closer to 37:30 by the end of the month

A 10k feels much more in line with my current state of fitness & training so I thought I'd get one in early doors with a vague hope of a few more attempts through the month depending on temperature. 10k is certainly long enough to work up a good sweat !

Great first results!
Wonβt be able to pass you two this month (Felton and Guy) unless I improve my PB by many seconds.....

No chance of me getting into first LWT spot this month after seeing that score from Guy - absolutely incredible!

Also wanted to try it out today. Wanted to row a comfortable, steady 1:58 pace and succeeded in doing that. One minute above last season's SB so there's room for improvement.
Nice to see so many FS entries this first day
And Tako, the way you are going lately I'm sure you'll crush that PB of yours.
Dave, I'm afraid you're right about Guy, he's magic...

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Thought I join the βfunβ and put in an early score, although it is well above 30degC in the loft where I row and it is Friday night and the cold drinks and garden chairs are waiting
Must have been listening too much to motivation and training power talks..... thought I program Rowpro with PB, Feltonβs time and Fredβs
No way I would dare to aim at Guyβs score (incredible!!! )
After 4K I realised that chasing my PB in these condition is crazy so slowed down keeping Felton behind, but at 7k I wanted to stop (reminded me of someone telling me these days about an HD after 7k) and struggled all the way to the finish line. After all happy to have survived with an ok time. So now I can wait an see what the month brings. Hopefully a bit cooler whether!
Great weekend to you all!

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Some inspirational times already.
Mine isn't likely to trouble boat 2 by month's end, but is actually a pb for me. Felt relatively good after, so there might be a couple of seconds to shave off if the weather conditions cool off/humidity gives in.

So many great times so early in the month...
Ian, Well done on your PB
Guy, Amazing
Felton, A nice first row
Tako, Playing it cool early in the month and I suspect Fred has got it spot on

I have only rowed 10k or more a few times and they were at recovery pace. Based on 5k PB and Paul's Law then my aim is Felton's goal of 37:30 @1.52.5. But it will be mid month before I can post a time because my in-laws are visiting and my liver will need a while to recover

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
A second one today. One per day, that's not gonna last.
Today I aimed for a slightly negative split, one third in 1:57, one third 1:56 and one third 1:55, leading to a time of 38:40. After two thid I saw Tako's time lurking, towards the end I realized I might go under 38:30, so my last few hundred meters were a bit faster.
Yesterday I was convinced I could row faster later this month, after today's row I'm not so sure anymore. Also a psychological barrier I'm afraid. Well, let's see. It's almost 10 seconds slower then last year's SB so who knows...

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
I decided to have an early go at this yesterday. My target was sub 40 and it went OK for the first 5k, but rapidly downhill after that. My heart rate reached 170 shortly after the halfway mark (bear in mind that 220 minus my age equals 155) and I had to ease back. I got slower and slower with each split (apart from a final sprint) and missed my target by just over 10 seconds. My back is very sore today, so it probably wasn't a great idea to do a full on 10k.
Splits were as follows:
Distance Time Pace Rating Heart Rate
1000 3:59.2 1:59.60 29 131
2000 3:57.5 1:58.75 30 144

Careful with your back, Paul. But very good that you finished it. Perhaps later this month you'll succeed to go sub 40.

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
I knew it had been a long time since I rowed a 10k. November 18th of last year to be exact!!!
Can't say the phrase "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" exactly applies but it wasn't too bad.
No way I will get near my PB (36:45) but if I can grind out some appropriate interval sessions and my backside will tolerate it I may get closer to or maybe sneak under 38.

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Paul, I agree with the others, take car of your back!! You have a score now for June, so no reason to stress it!
For Fred and Felton (and probably several others; e.g. expected Dan to be ahead of me) I have put in a new target 38:05.8 Enjoy!
Still more than 30 seconds above my PB, but felt pretty wasted after todayβs attempt. So will be interesting to see how the month is going to end. Hope Fred is right

Hey folks you entered some great results here ! Tried a go yesterday...but still not recovered to 100% from a common cold... So it ended up in HD after 3k...perhaps another go end of the week.
βDo you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?β

Hopefully you can soon join the fun! The more the better!
But I doubt we will see a 0.1 second battle as we saw last month

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Advice sought.
Iβve not been tempted to use the pace predictor before, but for βfunβ I used my 1km and FM PBs to see what I in theory should be aiming at. The predictor suggested around 40m20s for 10km, which would be appreciably under where I am now. How much of a pinch of salt should I be applying here?

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Ian: my two cents
While I think the pace predictor is pretty accurate, there is a psychological element to these time trials which make it hard to hit the predicted performance first time out. I would use the predicted time as a medium term target and work my way down from a pace a couple of clicks slower in order to get used to the distance at a hard pace. The 10k especially is pretty brutal at pb pace.
