Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Ian, Sometimes I use Concept 2's rankings to get an idea of what might (theoretically) be achievable. For example, input 5k pb and check the percentile, then go to 10k and work out the time for that same percentile. Hope that makes sense. I should add a health warning; the last time I did it was a moment.

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
I've had a head cold and raging sore throat for 3 days (ok, not so raging today) and two bad nights as a consequence. I gave myself an extra day off yesterday as I didn't feel up to it at all (plus it's still way too warm) but tonight decided that I'd just see how it went and take a finish alone as a result. Initially I thought 44 mins should be do-able then the pace felt ok as I loosened up and it dropped to 42 mins predicted (which I would have happily taken) but it just seemed easier than it should have been and I had to slow down a bit as I was sure a blow up was coming some time soon...
That arrived at about 6k where it all got a bit serious but looking at my pace I knew I was well ahead of Mr Bee and even had a potential SB in the bag as long as I didn't slow down much. I held on as long as I could but got a lot ragged it the last 2.5km but managed to lop off 18 seconds from my previous SB and nearly worried the 40 minute mark with 40:12.6 - given cooler weather and no cold maybe sub 40 would be do-able...

Congrats Dave with a strong first marker!
Sounds like a tough battle to me, given the circumstances (health & weather) and the nature of the 10k!
Will be interesting to see Mr.Bee’s response
BTW, also congrats on that beautiful nonathlon score of yours with the round 8000!

The Nonathlon score of 8000 was a happy accident but I admit it looked very tidy like when my posts count rounded to 7000! I've ruined it now with that 10k though...and this post..

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Thanks Tako !
Today i feel better...i tried it also yesterday...and again the wheels fallen off after 2,5k...so i thought...today this is your last chance...and it went well...took my last 10k as a marker (1:53.3 pace)
right now after the 10k(oh my god my notebook is full of sweat...) i m sure there wont be a 2nd go...it was really painfull...need a drill-mistress for a another improvement
it is a pb, too

Great result Claudius!
Two seconds ahead of my PB, which according to Fred is doomed to fall this month. So thanks for the marker
However, not sure I share Fred’s confidence in my endurance these days.....

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Well that was a surprise. Decided to extend my Pete Plan steady state row today from 8k to 10k. After starting at c1.58 I got into a nice rhythm and noticed the pace falling so after a few minutes pushed on down to 1.53 still with no intention of posting a CTC time. Then after 4k I thought I might as well just keep going and ignore the pain. So a bit of a happy accident and a PB of 37:38.8!

Don't worry Dave, you're still safe
I had a restful weekend clearing out the garage pre house move, and it clearly did the trick with a pb. Wonder if the loft clearance will also be worth 20 seconds?

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
First participation in a long while. Last 10k CTC for me was 6/2014 where I landed with 38:30.x in FS III.
At least this was my fastest 10k since 5/2015: less than a day after a Transatlantic flight & fasted for 19h it’s all I could muster. Will have at least one more try at the end of the month, striving for better than 41:49.8 today.

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Welcome back to the ctc Boris and thank you for putting in a score for the team! Now you know how much fun you‘ve missed in the past four years! Given the circumstances for your first go I think you could go well below 41 minutes the next time on fresh legs. Enjoy

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
My 10k on 3/6/18 was the fastest in three years. Mainly, I think, because it's not a natural choice of distance for me, so I don't have too many to compare with! It's a long way... I was happy to be in boat 2, but then... there was that niggling feeling of "Well, the last split was a lot faster than the body of the row, so there must be room for improvement." And... "Hmmmm… Clare is faster than me, but could I match her? Or overtake a tiny bit?" So today I had a go. I was torn between using the old split pattern and getting each one a bit faster, or going for a more consistent approach, watching heart rate. I did the latter, and I'm happy to say I improved my 2:22.2 split to 2:20.8, for a (probably temporary) place in boat one. Thanks go to Clare - I would definitely not have tried so hard without a target! Now to time to drink tea.

Great effort Jane!
Congrats and welcome in Boat 1
Great to see that you are also joining the great competitive spirit and fun! Thanks for the detailed report! Tea tasted probably much better after such an effort
Hope to see more posts of that kind and the responses from Clare, Barbara.....

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Nice work, Daffy. So you won’t be kicked out of boat one until at least two weeks into the month, if at all. I still remember that month where I was in boat one for a whole two days! Because the fast people didn’t enter times as quickly as they usually do
I won’t make my attempt until late in the month. I want to see what result I get first for a HM on summer solstice.

Re: June ctc - 10k, no stroke rate restrictions
Oh so close.... Wasn't following my estimated finish time too closely, so I'm kicking myself ever so slightly. Might not have a chance for another decent run at this, so I'll be content with a good improvement over the month
Fantastic efforts all round

Well paced Ian!
I do hope a couple of FS ladies will float the remaining boats - not sure if can come up with a 2:00.x split to get into a boat! Surely one more try at the end of the month for me.
Danke, Peter, für das Anspornen!
