Re: May ctc - 1k / 3'r / 992m, standing starts
Hats off to you Mr Bee. I'd have to pull two back to back season's bests to get ahead of that score and given I'm suffering from my second migraine in three days (never happened before) and have a busy weekend I think you might be taking the prize this month. Thanks for posting the marker though...just in case a mood descends...

Re: May ctc - 1k / 3'r / 992m, standing starts
Well, this went better... 6:55,7, it temporarily gives me the last seat in boat 3 but no doubt Morten will move things up a bit the forthcoming days. Offcourse everybody believes me when I say it was a piece of cake .
To those who are willing to give it another try: good luck. I think this was my last one for the CTC this month, tomorrow morning I will be on water again.
The first rep also was a season's best but hey, it's may, so that's not too difficult yet.

Re: May ctc - 1k / 3'r / 992m, standing starts
I am still around and will get a CTC time(albeit a slow one) in before month-end.
Had about 6 weeks at the end of the last rowing season with a damaged erg chain and sprocket so couldn't get much done - lost fitness and motivation, and I do not cope well with the heat so don't row much in summer - will do some swimming and cycling and try and get in 4am rows to keep the fitness up(and the weight down!!).
Cheers
Paul

Some excellent rivalries going on here, great to see
For me had a very painful final attempt to lay a marker down for Tako and Max. Let's see what you've got lads

Well done to everyone who's attempted this and for the many repeated efforts
I had my second go today, motivated by Jane who beat my time last week, so I'm afraid I've returned the favour
Just a few days left for those still thinking about it, you know who you are

I almost blew up again with 350m to go believing I could have a shot at Boat 1. Was on course but wise from the previous blew up I looked at my race notes and played it “safe”
6:41.4 (1000m @1:41.1 and 992m @1:40.3)
So I guess the final word is to Max, Morten, Dan ....
PS was thinking of posting the score Thursday, but then again, that is no fun!!

Re: May ctc - 1k / 3'r / 992m, standing starts
Nice work by all who've participated
1k's are a tough distance. You feel pretty sassy for the first 300-400 and then do the math...you're not even half way!
For some unknown (or maybe known...see next sentence) reason I have done mostly short intervals recently. I vividly recall 1k intervals from the Pete Plan being some of the most horrible sessions.
Did 2 x 700 with 2:30 rest on Saturday just to get a feel for the pace and distance. Did them "comfortably" sub 1:40 so figured I could dig a bit deeper for the additional 300m in return for a extra 30 seconds rest.
First one wasn't too bad and I was happy to be sub 1:40. Went out a bit quicker on the 2nd and just tried to hold on. Pretty uncomfortable towards the end but isn't that how they're supposed to be.
Next month should be interesting. I haven't rowed more than 8k this year.

Thanks Felton!
Still I am not sure whether It was fast enough for Boat 2. Morten is still due and you never know what Max is up to
Dan’s great effort proofs the race is first over at the end of the month! So maybe I will have to go again later.....

Unfortunately . Peter you did say at the start that I would have numerous attempts at this and it seems you were right!
Tako, Well done . Based on your WRVIS result I thought you might post a fast time so it looks like boat 3 for me this month.
Felton, A great row and I will try and find an extra 1.2 seconds tomorrow .

Re: May ctc - 1k / 3'r / 992m, standing starts
I made a stupid mistake today.
Started this challenge, thinking I should be able to row an average under 1:55. Conveniently, this would put me ahead of Jan and Jon as the boat #3 lwt for now.
I was pleasantly surprised to see 1:54.0 for the 1k. I was confident I would negative split the second part, giving an overall average of 1:53 something.
Then, during the 3 min rest, I realized I probably programmed 922m instead of 992m for the second part. Waited anxiously for the second part to start, and sure, the display counted down from 922. Immediately aborted the session, and after a couple of minutes, programmed the correct intervals.
This time I rowed the 1k at 1:54.4. Not too bad, considering. But now the 992m turned out to be a nightmare. It started okay but soon I found myself drifting towards 1:58 pace. With a last ditch effort I ended up at 1:55.0 average. Total time was 7:37.2 (1:54.7).
At least I can now view this as a better training session than intended, basically a 3 x 1k with positive splitting.
Now there is nothing for me to do but wait and see if Jan and/or Jon are going to punish me for my mistake. If you're reading this: if you row faster, please make it under 1:53 pace.

Nicely done - particularly to re-motivate after the first 1km.
The way this challenge has gone, I'm expecting someone to post with a pace of 1:52.9

Well done Rodger (I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this again )
I've had a couple of failed attempts over the last days, both with 1k at 1:54 pace and then giving up halfway through the 992m
I might have to try again tomorrow, at least I'll have a target to aim for. Don't think it will be under 1:53 though, I'm hoping for a low 1:54 to give you another chance

Re: May ctc - 1k / 3'r / 992m, standing starts
I can only apologise for leaving my one and only attempt so late. What with marathon rows & then returning to lwt following my post-marathon celebratory refuel this lunchtime was my remaining window to get a time in. With no previous feeler attempt it was an unpleasant fly & die with an overall time slower than my (last Nov) 2k PB The last few years I've developed an increasing dislike for 1ks - much too far to muscle my way through like a 500 but the power output required puts me right in the hole much too early.
And as for having to do most of a second one three minute later ...

It’s too hot here with 31degC to try again today, so tempted to say this was it for me this month, but you never know
