Mud Season Madness 2018
I completed the 10,000 Mud Season Madness last year and have decided to see if I can do the same again this year.
I have worked out a schedule for myself that will allow me to take all the 6 rest days and if I feel that the 10,000m is proving too much, then I’ll drop down to the 5,000m target.
Are there are any other intrepid Free Spirits out there who are mad … Oops. That should read, ‘ made ‘ for this challenge and would like to join me?

Also hope to successfully complete it again this season, but challenging due to job travel and easter vacation. Will definitely start!

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018
Hi Jill, Sheena and I are also hoping to complete the challenge this season. We've done the 5k challenge a couple of times before, but last year we weren't able to do it. This time we're planning to do the 10k version - that will be the most we've ever rowed in a single month
We're planning to do a 4 days on, 1 day off rowing schedule, which happens to match our planned other activities quite well. And fortunately this month's CTC will be easy to integrate into the challenge. Also any meters rowed from March 15th will contribute to the next team challenge, the World Erg Challenge!
Good luck Jill, Jonny, Tako and anybody else who is starting the challenge!

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018
I'm going to have a go at this challenge (back and shoulder problems permitting!). I think 10k a day may be a bit to challenging, but I hope I can manage 5k. As my trip to London has been cancelled, I'll be able to erg over the weekend, which will hopefully give me a good start to the month.

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018
I’m in. Shouldn’t be any trouble completing it unless I have to travel. I’ll test HM and couple other distances this month. Even so, expect the days before and after to still be at least 10km.

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018
Hi everyone and thank you for coming along to keep me company and hope that in order to reach your virtual moorings, you didn’t slip and slide about too much in the virtual mud.
I have planned the same schedule as Jan and Sheena, which is based on 4 days on and 1 day off - if something unexpected crops up, then I’ll be happy to swap things around a little in order to stay on track.
I do need to be sensible about managing my energy levels - my fastest 10,000m is 52.46.2 ( October CTC 2016 ) and I know that realistically, it would be impossible for me to achieve that sort of pace for very long. Therefore, allowing for WU and WD, yesterday and today’s sessions were both rowed at a steady pace which took me 63.27.5 and 63.46.8 and I would be very happy if I could keep around those times for the rest of the challenge.
Paul, I hope that your back and shoulders will not cause you any discomfort and what a great pity that your football week-end has turned out to be a non-event. What does COYS stand for?
Sending you all enormous amounts of encouragement and extra Brownie Points for those of you who have to fit this in around work commitments.
Mmmm ... Hang on ... There was something else ... Now what was it ... Oh yes. Jonny, I know that you will be needing plenty of fuel ... but ... go easy on the hot-dogs.

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018
Hi Jill
Well, I've done 10k plus both yesterday and today, so only 23 more to do! COYS stands for "Come On You Spurs". Like most Irish football fans, I support an English team and have been a Spurs fan since 1967. It would have been great to see them play at Wembley, but that's life. Anyway, as I said earlier, it gives me a chance to get a headstart on this challenge.

Hot dog free zone currently Jill - just so long as the scales keep going in the right direction, but I've a feeling that might be lasting too much longer ...

I am going to attempt the 10k. In years pasts I always lose focus on the indoor sports when the weather get warmer.

Hey folks,
Free Spirits newbie here.
I've committed to the 10K a day for at least my first rotation (6 days on, 1 day off, 5 days on, 2 days off; 2 sessions a day).
Chiropractor appts are lined up, and working on getting massages scheduled!
I have the added motivation of weight loss challenge at work that ends on March 27, so 10K a day could be a total Win-Win!
2 days down and 6K this morning.
Good luck everyone!

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018
Jill, I'm with you on this approach, I'm starting out at about 5 mins off my PB time, apart from the CTC attempt the other day. I will try to do a few more CTC attempts before the end of the month but the rest of the 10Ks will be at an easy pace, or split up if need be.
Jan says to keep the energy levels up we need to eat more doughnuts and peanut butter
Good to see we have a number of Free Spirits up for the challenge and welcome to Sharky, good luck everyone

I ended up having to trek about 6 miles in the snow today, so I wasn't in any form to hop on the erg when I got home. But 2 out of 3 ain't bad (as Meatloaf would say).

Oh, my!
Watch out boys and girls, well maybe not.
I started rowing again mid February and I loved jumping up the meters board since.
Checking my meters and where the next challenge is brings me back to my old days of craziness . I am not that crazy yet and I am getting older, and I am thankful for that, but I am in for the challenge, be it 10K or 5kK, it is for the fun of doing it.

Sounds to me that the C2CTC would be a good treatment for your new “condition”

6 days out of 7 at 10k plus for me. Start to have aches in places I didn't know I had places! Not sure how long I can keep going, but I'll give it a try.

Paul, you can always give yourself a day off rowing, or split the 10k up into 2 easy 5k'sPaul Victory wrote: ↑Wed Mar 07, 2018 11:35 pm 6 days out of 7 at 10k plus for me. Start to have aches in places I didn't know I had places! Not sure how long I can keep going, but I'll give it a try.
Sheena and myself have done the 10k 8 out of 8 days now. We were planning on a rest day last Monday but a planned walk had been canceled due to snow, so we decided to keep rowing in stead. We'll take 2 rest days, tomorrow and the day after, to get back to our original schedule
Here's a link that we find useful to track the progress of Free Spirits in the 10k challenge:
https://log.concept2.com/challenges/mud ... &sort=days
Massi, you're not in that list - do you perhaps upload a number of rows at a time from a log card?

Aha, so you’re who that Shiny New is. Welcome back.
It turns out I’ll be travelling for 11 days, so expect to get in 20 days this time.
Good luck to every still in the mud hunt.

Thanks! I'm planning to row 250/260km per month, and hopefully start knocking down some reasonable PBs. Would love to < 8 on 2K soon
